DINING GUIDE │SPRING 2021
ABOUT LAFAYETTE COLLEGE DINING Lafayette Dining is passionate about creating community through food. Our meals are not only delicious, they also embody our core values of ‘from-scratch’ cooking, wellness, and sustainability – that we take very seriously. We don’t use corporate recipes. Instead we give our chefs tremendous freedom to be creative, but we also have a long list of standards that their ingredients must meet. We commit to sourcing 20% of our ingredients from local farmers and artisans (including LaFarm!), and we’re proud to say these efforts were recently recognized by AASHE, which ranked Lafayette top 10 for food and dining sustainability on its Sustainable Campus Index. As Lafayette welcomes students to campus in the era of COVID-19, we’ve rolled out a series of operational changes to ensure that our guests continue to have great meals and experiences at our locations while remaining safe and healthy. While safety is a key priority, it is not our only one. We think we’ve got a great dining program planned for you this spring, but rest assured we’ll be refining and adapting to make it even better as the semester continues. MEAL PLANS We offer a variety of meal plans to meet student needs, as well as Pard Dollars, a prepaid declining cash balance account. Meal plans will begin at lunch on February 1st for early arrivals back to campus, and end after dinner on May 30th, at the start of summer break. How It Works: All students are required to participate in a minimum-qualifying meal plan. Full plans and fees for meal plans can be found on the Finance & Administration website. Students have the opportunity to change their meal plan by logging into MyHousing by Adirondack Solutions, Inc. using your Lafayette ID and password. Student IDs are required to swipe for meals and use Pard Dollars. Students who have not already submitted for an ID, and students who require replacement IDs should begin the Online Photo ID Submission, immediately. In person ID requests will not be offered during the spring semester, so it will be beneficial to download and submit your ID as soon as possible.

FOOD ALLERGIES & SPECIAL DIETS At Lafayette Dining, we do our best to ensure that every student, faculty, and staff member here has the option to eat creative, delicious, nutritious meals every day, even if they have allergies or special diets dictated by health, ethical, religious, or medical reasons. The dining services team is well-trained in food allergy awareness and offer a number of options for students with food allergies and celiac disease. This includes communication about and modification to existing menu items, special preparation of menu items, and access to special products as agreed upon with students. For questions about these services or to request food allergy accommodations, students should contact Lafayette College Disability Services •
Major 8 allergens are included in menu names and/or descriptions whenever possible. For more on eating with a food allergy in our café detailed here. Further questions about ingredients can be answered by our trained managers/chefs on-site.
•
Daily menus for each café can be accessed at lafayette.cafebonappetit.com. Menu items that are appropriate options for most students with celiac disease are labeled as “made without gluten-containing ingredients” and can be filtered to streamline searching using the dietary preferences filter.
•
We offer an outstanding array of vegan and vegetarian options at all of our locations on campus, and they are clearly labeled using our Circle of Responsibility menu icons.
•
Halal and Kosher food can be made available. If you have a religious dietary requirement, please contact the Lafayette College Religious and Spiritual Life office.

SAFETY MEASURES Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, we’ve leaned heavily on guidance from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), health and sanitation experts from our company’s Coronavirus Response Team, local health regulations and the college’s input. We’ve put into place an array of measures and precautions to ensure the safety of our guests: •
COVID-19-specific training for all dining staff designed by sanitation experts and updated regularly as new issues emerge. Topics covered include proper disinfection, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE), physical distancing protocols, and more, and are integrated with food safety and sanitation protocols.
•
COVID-19 testing of dining staff, in conjunction with the college’s campus-wide testing policy.
•
Additional pre-shift wellness screenings for dining employees in alignment with local regulations, which include no-contact temperature scans and daily interview questions.
•
Decision tree and step-by-step action plan for unit managers who have employees who are sick or who may have had contact with someone diagnosed with COVID-19.
•
Employees wear masks at all times.
•
Amped-up cleaning and sanitation schedules with clearly detailed procedures that meet or exceed all local guidelines and national best practices. This includes frequent disinfection of high-touch surfaces and nightly spraying of disinfectants every evening.
•
Hand washing stations and no-touch sanitation stations at entrances.
•
Clear physical distancing and wayfinding signage so students feel comfortable moving around inside of dining halls.
•
Protective infrastructure such as plexiglass barriers at cashier stations, dining tables and in front of café stations.
•
Shifting from self-service to full-service concepts. Salad and deli bars are being replaced with made-to-order options and/or freshly made, prepackaged meals.
•
Tables moved to create more distance in dining areas, with table-top coasters that indicate when a table top has been cleaned.
•
New operating hours across campus.
•
Contactless ordering and payment at numerous locations via Transact mobile app and8 Transact student card readers.
QUARANTINE MEALS A major concern of ours since the pandemic began has been ensuring that we safely provide meals for students who have tested positive for COVID-19, or are under precautionary quarantine. Working with our counterparts at the college, we’ve implemented a meal delivery and contactless take-out solution, leveraging the Transact Mobile app, which ensures students who are in mandatory isolation are provided with food options, regardless of their meal plan selection. Students should download this app now, if they haven’t done so already. In the event that students test positive for COVID-19, we will enable a new “Isolation Meals” payment method on their Transact app account, which will allow them to order three meals per day regardless of the meal plan they’ve selected. These students will be able to order on the app, indicate their location, and their meal will be delivered to them directly during the designated operating hours. Meals will be delivered outside the isolation building and stored in a covered container. For students who have been placed under college-mandated quarantine, but who have not tested positive for COVID-19, we ask that they first consider ordering via the app, and having a friend pick up meals for them. If this option is unavailable, students may utilize a socially distanced take-out process to pick up meals. This process is designed to minimize contact with others, and follows all appropriate health and safety protocols, including limiting the number of students gathering and incorporating socially distant queuing as necessary. Students will place their dining order via the app, wait until they receive a notification that their order is ready, and then pick up their meal. This option will be available at Gilbert’s, ECO Cafe, Simons or Lower, which all have designated pickup tables that are sanitized regularly.
