• Ingredients containing artificial trans-fat or MSG are not used in our kitchens.
WE SERVE FOOD PREPARED FROM SCRATCH
• Stocks, soups, salsas, and sauces are made from scratch.
• Salad dressings are made from scratch using olive and canola oils.
• Turkey and beef are roasted in-house daily for deli meat.
• Cookies and muffins are baked fresh daily.
WE SERVE FOOD SOURCED IN A SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE MANNER
• Fruits and vegetables are grown locally, using sustainable and organic practices, whenever possible.
• Pork comes from hog farms that don’t confine sows to gestation crates for their entire pregnancies.
• Turkey and chicken are produced without the routine, non-therapeutic use of antibiotics.
• Ground beef is from cattle raised on vegetarian feed and never given antibiotics or hormones.
• Milk and yogurt are sourced from dairies not using artificial hormones.
MEAL PLANS AT CURTIS
Gould Dining Hall offers students a variety of meal options in an all-you-care-to-eat service style. Students use their meal swipes upon arrival – each time they enter the café, one visit will be deducted from their balance.
Each student meal plan also includes a set amount of Dining Dollars each semester.
Dining dollars can be used to purchase items from the Pop-Up Market, as well as additional meals in the dining hall if needed.
Dining Dollars can be supplemented by adding funds to your Curtis Debit account.
Curtis dining offers three meal plans to meet the varied needs of our students.
All resident students are enrolled in the 19 MEAL PLAN. Off-campus students can choose between the 9 MEAL PLAN or the 8 MEAL PLAN.
19 MEAL PLAN
19 meal swipes per week & $25 Dining Dollars each semester
($50 total for the year)
9 MEAL PLAN
9 meal swipes per week & $200 Dining Dollars each semester
($400 total for the year)
8 MEAL PLAN
8 meal swipes per week & $375 Dining Dollars each semester
($750 total for the year)
For questions about your meal plan, contact our Director of Dining: Natalie Armentrout at natalie.armentrout@curtis.edu
CURTIS DINING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
WHEN DOES MY DINING PLAN BEGIN & END?
The dining plan for the 2023 school year begins with brunch on August 27, 2023. It ends with dinner on May 8, 2024.
HOW DOES MY MEAL PLAN WORK?
To use your dining plan, simply join us in Gould Dining Hall for a meal and swipe your Curtis ID card at the cashier’s stand upon entry! This will deduct one meal from your weekly balance. You can only swipe for one meal during each meal period.
WHAT ARE DINING DOLLARS AND WHERE CAN I USE THEM?
Each meal plan contains a set amount of Dining Dollars each semester. Your Dining Dollars reset at the start of each semester. Any leftover Dining Dollars at the end of the semester do not roll over into the following semester or year. You can use your Dining Dollars to purchase items at the Pop-up Market, which also offers a weekly Produce Market and a monthly bulk grocery pre-order option. You can also use Dining Dollars to purchase additional meals for yourself, guests & visitors, or friends & faculty that may be dining with you.
Your Dining Dollars are stored on your Curtis ID, just like your meal swipes. To use them, just let the cashier know that you would like to pay with Dining Dollars.
WHAT IF I HAVE A GUEST WITH ME WHO DOESN’T HAVE A DINING PLAN?
Feel free to use your Dining Dollars to treat your guests to a meal!
HOW CAN I FIND OUT HOW MANY DINING DOLLARS I HAVE LEFT AND WHAT CAN I DO IF I RUN OUT?
If you’d like to know how many Dining Dollars you have remaining, bring your card to the cashier’s stand and they will run a balance inquiry for you. If you run out of Dining Dollars, you can replenish them by adding funds to your Curtis Debit account with the bursar’s office.
WHO CAN I CONTACT IF I HAVE A COMMENT OR SUGGESTION?
We encourage you to fill out one of our comment cards, found at the cashier stand & in the dining room, and post it on our feedback board in the dining room!
You are also welcome to reach out to our Director of Dining, Natalie Armentrout, and she would be more than happy to chat! You can often find her in the dining hall or you can email her at: natalie.armentrout@curtis.edu
WHAT IF I HAVE A SPECIAL DIETARY OR NUTRITIONAL NEED?
We serve many students with food allergies and dietary needs! The dining services team is well-trained in food allergy awareness and offers several options for students with food allergies and celiac disease. This includes communication about and modification to existing menu items, special preparation of menu items, and access to special products as agreed upon with students.
Ingredients and allergen information for menu items can be found on our online menus, and allergen information can be found on our station signage within our cafés. Daily menus for each café can be accessed at curtis.cafebonappetit.com. Menus can be filtered to streamline searching using the dietary preferences filter.
Further questions about ingredients can be answered by our trained managers/chefs onsite. Our Dining Director, Natalie Armentrout, is here to assist with any dietary questions or concerns you may have. We also work closely with The University of Pennsylvania’s Registered Dietitian Nutritionist.
We understand that our guests with special dietary needs, albeit food allergies, celiac disease, lactose intolerance, or any other medically necessary diet simply want a safe place to make food choices, quickly. Each student must determine their own level of comfort when making selections within our café.
Please feel free to reach out to Natalie if you have any questions, need more details, or just want to provide useful feedback!
CURTIS GREENIE-TO-GO PROGRAM
HOW IT WORKS
• You will receive one complimentary re-usable green clamshell container and one re-usable green soup cup with lid from Curtis at the start of the school year
• The first time you wish to take a meal to-go:
◊ Bring your clean greenie with you
◊ Fill with your desired meal from any station/s (the lid must be able to close)
◊ Take with you to enjoy outside of the dining room as your schedule permits
• When you are done with your meal, make sure to rinse out your container and keep it in your possession.
• The next meal you wish to take to-go:
◊ Turn in your rinsed green container and/or soup cup to the cashier upon entry
◊ You will be given a freshly washed and sanitized container and/or soup cup for that meal period
◊ Fill with your desired meal from any station/s (the lid must be able to close) & take with you to enjoy outside of the dining room as your schedule permits
• Wherever you choose to eat, DO NOT LEAVE YOUR GREENIE BEHIND! After your meal, rinse your container and hold on to it – you’ll need to bring your greenies with you, each time you wish to take a meal to go.
REMEMBER…
To-go meals can only be taken out of the dining room in a greenie and you cannot receive a clean & sanitized greenie without returning your used one!
GREENIE-TO-GO FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
IF I EAT A MEAL IN THE DINING ROOM, CAN I USE MY CONTAINER AND TAKE ANOTHER MEAL TO-GO?
If you choose to eat in the dining room and fill your greenie as well; this effectively counts as two meals, and you will need to use dining dollars, cash, or credit card to pay for your second meal.
WHAT HAPPENS IF I LOSE, DAMAGE, OR FORGET MY GREENIE?
You can purchase a new greenie at the cashier stand for $10, or a new soup cup for $5, at any time. You are also always welcome to dine-in!
HOW MUCH FOOD CAN I TAKE TO-GO IN MY GREENIE?
The greenies are the perfect size for a balanced meal! For food safety reasons, the greenie lids must be able to close, prior to leaving the café. Aside from a piece of hand fruit, a cookie, or other handheld snack, all of your meal must fit inside the greenies. You cannot use additional disposable food containers.
CAN I BRING MY OWN REUSABLE TO-GO CONTAINER?
Unfortunately, for food safety and sanitation reasons, to-go meals can only be served into green to-go containers that have been cleaned and sanitized by the dining team on-site.
CAN I STILL TAKE A BEVERAGE TO-GO WITH MY GREEN CONTAINER?
Yes! You can take a beverage to go in a single-use disposable cup, located at the beverage station.
