AT BON APPÉTIT,
WE BELIEVE FOOD IS POWERFUL.
Breaking bread together can build interpersonal connections and help us learn about other cultures.
FOOD IS ALSO AN IMPORTANT EDUCATIONAL TOOL.
It's an everyday medium that can offer valuable lessons about wellness, community, the environment, and more. As passionate advocates for food literacy, and with childhood obesity and related health issues at an all-time high in America, we decided it was time for us to begin sharing our love for and knowledge of food and nutrition with a new, smaller-statured audience: KIDS!
HEALTHY KIDS IN THE BON APPÉTIT KITCHEN...
...is our companywide nutrition and culinary education program for kids focused on having a lasting and positive effect on their food choices.
1,600 elementary school-aged children have already had a hands-on head start to making better food choices. (And have had tons of fun doing it!)
KIDS FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY
— from community organizations, local schools, the families of our clients' employees — have joined us
for fun, interactive lessons about where food comes from, healthy eating, and cooking.
By connecting kids with vibrant fruits and vegetables, we hope to change the way they think about healthy food.
AT LOCATIONS WITH ACCESS TO GARDENS KIDS HARVEST INGREDIENTS STRAIGHT FROM THE SOURCE,
gaining a deeper understanding of where food comes from.
(And what kid doesn’t like to get her hands dirty during a visit to a garden or farm?)
BZZZZ!
They see bees up close and watch them pollinate food-bearing plants, which gives kids a greater appreciation for nature and our connection to all living things. (Even tiny insects!)
KIDS BECOME EXPLORERS, TASTE-TESTING OUT-OF-THE-ORDINARY FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
like kumquats, kohlrabi, gooseberries, and fennel. As a result, they gain confidence and an appetite for adventure!
SETTING KIDS UP FOR SUCCESS
Using colorful cutting boards, kid-safe cooking tools, and a rainbow of fruits and vegetables, lessons are accessible and fun. A few easy hacks, and kitchens and cafés across the country are transformed into hands-on cooking classrooms.
SIDE BY SIDE, BIG CHEFS AND LITTLE CHEFS
turn garden fresh produce into delicious feasts, demonstrating that whole fruits and vegetables can easily be incorporated into our everyday diets.
FUN, KID-FRIENDLY RECIPES, PREPARED TOGETHER
Kids love the “plant parts pizza,” vegetable tacos with from-scratch salsa, apple hand-pies, berry parfaits...
...and rainbow fruit kebabs — each designed with every child’s unique creative flair.
NEW EXPERIENCES
Hands-on learning (like using a knife for the first time!) can have a lasting effect on children and the choices they make for their well-being — and for the well-being of their families and communities as they grow into adulthood.
WE LOOK FORWARD TO DEEPENING OUR IMPACT
by connecting with more kids and sharing Bon Appétit’s knowledge, talents, and passion for food with the next generation of eaters.
