I chose to study at Shuttleworth College because of the facilities available. The range of horses gave us a big advantage and the staff were very knowledgeable. The course was varied and covered a wide range of topics which I have been able to take into the industry today. The College provided a fantastic learning environment, enabling me to achieve my full potential.
Sophie Floristry Destination: Own business s a result of studying Floristry Advanced Level 3 A at Shuttleworth College I decided I wanted to open my own business. I gained a lot more than floristry experience during my time at College, I also learned about the admin side of floristry, such as organising flower orders in a logical, effective and efficient way.
Oliver Outdoor Education Destination: Watersports Instructor in Valsinki, Greece y favourite part of the course was the practical M sessions we got to take part in. From climbing to sailing and canoeing with friends. These sessions set me up for my career in the outdoor industry, gaining practical skills and advanced knowledge.
Rhiannon Animal Management Level 3 Destination: Veterinary Nurse Training efore Shuttleworth College I went to Stratton Upper B School, mainly because it had a farm. I studied there for four years focusing my studies on the qualifications I would need to become a veterinary nurse. Shuttleworth College helped me to get on this course thanks to the lecturers who were extremely helpful and the facilities needed to encourage learning. I am now in my second year of study to become a veterinary nurse and am loving every minute of it.
Many of our students progress on to our Undergraduate courses. We offer a range of Undergraduate courses at our Bedford College, Shuttleworth College and Tresham College campuses. Find out more in our brand new prospectus or on our website.

We are the largest apprenticeship provider in the South East Midlands which means whatever career path you are interested in we will have an apprenticeship to suit you.
What is an apprenticeship? An apprenticeship is a programme of work-based learning. To be enrolled as an apprentice, an organisation must have offered you a contract of employment and agreed to pay your wage and support you throughout your training. Your job role must include a range of work relevant to the apprenticeship qualification you wish to undertake.
How long does it take?
90%
of apprentices stay in employment upon completion1
86%
of employers said apprentices developed relevant skills1
80%
of apprentices agreed their chances of progression had increased2
Apprenticeships take between one and four years to complete depending on the type and level undertaken.
How will I spend my time? The part-time study element of an apprenticeship fits around the job commitment, and will be agreed with the employer. You might attend one day per week (day release), in blocks of a week or more (block release), or 100% work-based delivery.

I always had a keen interest in gardening so when I saw the job vacancy for an apprentice role, I thought it would be a brilliant idea to learn a new skill while earning a wage. At College, I have learnt core skills as well as gaining essential certificates in areas such as pesticide application. We also take trips out to shows and exhibitions and have visits from industry specialists. I really enjoy the environment at work! I feel like I make a real contribution to the jobs we do and I like building relationships and interacting with the clients.
What’s next? The apprenticeship has taught me the key skills and prepared me for a job in this field, whilst also showing me what options I have for the future. My plan is to keep learning and progressing to see what my future in horticulture may lead to.

I love how hands-on we get to be on the course; we are trusted to be with the cattle and get involved with the lambing, so the environment feels very mature. As I live on-site I am able to pop up to the farm and see where I can help at any time. As we cover machinery, maintenance and livestock on the course, it really prepares you for working in the industry, plus we gain lots of industry contacts through the cattle showing and lambing, even with the local butchers.
