FOCUS ON UPCOMING BEDFORD GIGS

BABY STRANGE + The Dunts: Esquires – Sat 6th November

Glasgow’s Baby Strange take a steadfast, creative, all-encompassing approach to music as an artform and have carved out an almost cult like status for themselves within the underground UK music scene. Baby Strange kicked off the new year with; ‘Club Sabbath’ – the new unfl inching sound of the world below! Angst laden vocals spread across a disco beat that nods beautifully to the latter-day sounds of The Clash, whilst drawing upon the unique sound that fans of Baby Strange have come to love.

Fronted by the magnetic & alluring Johnny Madden and rounded out by brothers Connaire & Aidan McCann, Baby Strange are already well on their way to re-establish themselves as one of the most innovative and uncompromising outfi ts in the UK. Since the release of their critically acclaimed 2016 debut album ‘Want It Need It’, Baby Strange have toured tirelessly, building an enthusiastic and dedicated live audience, selling out venues across the UK & sharing stages with the likes of Frank Carter & the Rattlesnakes, Slaves & Jamie T. Support from fellow Glaswegians The Dunts who come armed with driving guitars and caustic punk sensibilities at their core, rapidly becoming one of Scotland’s hottest exports demanding attention and gaining momentum with their incomparable ‘council-punk’ branded sound.

ITALIA 90: Esquires – Fri 19th November

The rather excellently monikered Les Miserable (vocals), J Dangerous (drums), Bobby Portrait (bass) and Captain ACAB (guitar) make for an interesting roll call. Having relocated from their native Brighton to South London, the quartet are making a name for themselves as a post-punk band with an edge. This band are certainly not an identi-kit formation (they have been described before as all looking like they come from a different decade) but come together to create an intense swell of noise with political undertones.

Their early releases evoke the politically charged rhetoric and relentless drive of bands like Sham 69, Cockney Rejects and The Ruts, meanwhile, their latest EP mirrors the transition into the rhythmic angularity of the proceeding post-punk years heralded in by Joy Division, The Fall and Wire. Nevertheless, Italia 90 have not shaken off their true punk ethos, either musically or politically, as their work ponders and rails against the complexities, hypocrisies and frustrations of modern life
