The Eagles championship winning team have had a promising start to their new life in the Pitching In Southern League Premier Central division with four points from their first two games, but slipped up on their third outing giving manager Gary Setchell food for thought as the season progresses.

First came the lengthy trip to the Bards of Stratford where the Eagles equalised with a goal from substitute Will Summerfield minutes from the end.

That was followed by the first home match where 455 saw the first win of the season as Barwell visited the Eyrie. As the mercury approached 35 degrees, the teams battled for their fist win of the season. Bedford looked to have earned the three points as goals from Connor Tomlinson and new boy Ty Lewthwaite, put them two ahead. The visitors had other ideas bringing the score back level as the match entered its final fifteen minutes. The Eagles sealed the win as Tomlinson got his brace ten minutes from time.

After the intense battle in Saturday’s heat, the last thing the Eagles wanted was an away trip two days later, but that’s just what they got with a Monday night visit to Kings Langley. Both sides entered the game on four points, and the winner would be top of the table come the end, but this match was a step to far for the travelling Eagles as they went down by two goals. Tomlinson in his hundredth appearance for Bedford was unable to find the net this time, but Hugh Alban-Jones did pop up and give the travelling fans hope of an elusive equaliser as the clock ticked down.
