Dear friends
In September the 33rd International Apicultural Congress, organised by APIMONDIA, took place in Beijing. APIMONDIA usually organise meeting every two years but sadly the last one, which had been planned for Yugoslavia, had to be cancelled. This year was therefore the first Congress for four years and there was much to catch up with! This edition of Beekeeping & Development inevitably carries much news from the Congress.
This was also the first event at which our new organisation Bees for Development was represented. I have served the Developing Countries’ Commission at APIMONDIA for some years, but it came as great honour for me to be elected as the new President of this APIMONDIA Standing Commission. I would like to thank all the country representatives who voted for me and in that way gave positive support to beekeeping development initiatives I regard it my duty to ensure that the beekeeping problems of these countries receive more focused attention, and will I endeavour to organise more events beneficial to beekeepers in developing counties.
