DRP Brief Aim
Understanding the concept of City Livability Index in the context of Indian Cities Objectives 1. To understands the concept of City Liveability in the context of global and Indian scenario.
2. To review the various methods of city’s performance measurement and their applications through literature. 3. To critically review the city livability index and criteria proposed by GoI. 4. Evaluate the relevance of Liveability Standards in the context of Indian cities.
Methodology To understands the concept of City Liveability in the context of global and Indian scenario.
O.1
• Exploring the meaning of Liveability through numerous sources. • Understanding the difference and linkages among Quality of Life, Quality of Living, Standard of living and Liveability. Also, finding the factors which contributes to the liveability.

Methodology To review the various methods of city’s performance measurement and their applications through literature.
O.2
• Assessing all quantitative measures of determining city’s performance such as OECD, Mercer living survey, EIU liveability etc. • Identification of key indicators through creating a database for all global indices and their parameters. To critically review the city livability index and criteria proposed by GoI.
O.3
• Analysis of Liveability standards indicators proposed by GoI. • Reviewing critical arguments against Liveability Standards through literature. • Identification of potential parameters which are missing out in GoI liveability standards. Evaluate the relevance of Liveability Standards in the context of Indian cities.
O.4
• • • •
Justification for city selection based on relevant parameters. Understanding data reliability for all indicators Calculating score for available data. Comparison of cities to understand application of indices.

Liveability vs. Quality of Life vs. Standard of Living Inter-relationship
LIVEABILITY • Liveability can be define as a phenomenon to achieve state of happiness. • It contributes to both quality of life and standard of living. • Liveability can be under the quality of life or vice versa but both are not supported by income alone.
QUALITY OF LIFE • Standard indicators of the quality of life include not only wealth and employment but also the built environment, physical and mental health, education, recreation and leisure time, and social belonging (Sen, 1993).
STANDARD OF LIVING • Refers to the level of wealth, comfort, material goods, and necessities available to a certain socioeconomic class in a certain geographic area. • Includes factors such as income, employment availability, class disparity, poverty rate etc. Understanding the concept of City Livability Index in the context of Indian Cities

Study Area & Way Forward
Identification of Study Area • This research intends to further explore the relevance of such city livability index for an atypical mid-sized Indian city. • Small and medium Indian cities are well known for their poor spatial data culture. • Analyze the relevance of such CLIs in the context of a mid-sized Indian city. • In order to ensure that comparison of cities is done with similarly placed peers, the cities have been placed in 5 groups.
