Holy Week at Bellaire United Methodist Church Sunday, March 20 | 9:00 & 11:11am | Pastor Seann Duffin Preaching Join us for worship as we celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into the city of Jerusalem. As part of each worship service, all children will have an opportunity to reenact the festivity of that day with a procession of palms to begin our worship services.
Thursday, March 24 | 7:00pm | Pastor Elizabeth Duffin Preaching Come share in this remembrance of Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. A combined choir will lead us in this special worship service, which will close with Holy Communion and the stripping of the altar.
Friday, March 25 | 7:00pm | Pastor Jim Love Preaching The term “Good Friday” often seems like a misnomer. What could be “good” about this dark day? The phrase traditionally was “God’s Friday,” signaling that God is present and sovereign even in the dark moments of life. Join us for this Good Friday service of darkness with music led by Kenneth Scott Peters.
Sunday, March 27 | Pastor Seann Duffin Preaching 6:30am Sunrise | 9:00am Contemporary | 11:11 Combined We look forward to celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ on Easter Sunday morning. Join us for any of three worship services. Invite your friends and family to join you on this wondrous occasion. If you wish, bring flowers from home to decorate the flowering cross.

MinistryPartner Christian Community Service Center The Christian Community Service Center (CCSC) is a community-based non-profit organization serving the inner city Houston community. Incorporated in 1980, CCSC has since grown to encompass a coalition of 41 churches united in service. Bellaire UMC is one of those partner churches, and thanks to volunteers like you, here’s what CCSC was able to do over the past year. Basic Needs: 10,878 clients in crisis received immediate relief with every day necessities through Emergency Services. Clients also received referral information to address urgent issues, such as prenatal care, financial assistance, or legal services. Employment: 739 individuals were assisted in employment searches or job training through JobNet and Martha’s Way. Youth Services: 11,126 vulnerable children were served through CCSC’s three youth programs (Back to School, Jingle Bell Express, and the Louis J. Morgan Vision Care Program!
How YOU can help CCSC VOLUNTEER AT CCSC CCSC is looking for help at Emergency Services Central located at 3434 Branard St. We need people who have a few hours one day each week to assist our brothers and sisters in need. Help is needed interviewing clients and assessing their needs, preparing food and hygiene packages in our food pantry, and helping clients in the clothing room. Hours are 10-2 Monday through Friday and 9-12 on Saturdays. You pick the day that suits your schedule. Contact Sue Zinni at s_zinni@hotmail.com or 713-890-2880 for more information. You may also contact Kate Gallup, the Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer@ccschouston.org or 713-961-3993. DONATIONS FOR CCSC On the first Sunday of every month at BUMC, we accept food donations for CCSC at the table near the Connection Center. The Food Bank is grateful for any and all contributions. However, the Food Bank currently is overstocked, and we would like to change the focus of our donations and concentrate on 4 specific items that CCSC always needs. This month, please consider donating individually wrapped toothbrushes (adult and child sizes), toothpaste (7 oz. size), bars of soap, and toilet paper. These items are always needed by our clients and are much appreciated. SAVE THE DATE FOR THE AZALEA DINNER Join other BUMC members for the Azalea Dinner and Auction at the Post Oak Hilton on April 7th. More information to come!
Senior Adults San Jacinto Monument
Wednesday, March 9 | 9:45am-3:30pm | San Jacinto How about a trip to the San Jacinto Monument? When was the last time you visited the site of the battle that won Texas its independence from Mexico. We’ll miss Texas Independence Day, March 2, by a week, but we can still have the spirit. We will dine at the Monument Inn nearby at about 11:00 am first and then tour the San Jacinto Monument site, see the exhibits, take the elevator up in the monument, etc. Lunch will be on your own. The tour of some of the special exhibits is $12. The bus will depart from the church at 9:45 am. We may be about 3:30 getting back to the church. Make your reservations by signing the reservation list in your Sunday school class, or by contacting Tom and Sandra at (713) 703-1153 or tandswms@att.net.
Tour of Galveston
Tuesday, April 12 | Time TBD | Galveston We are planning a tour of Galveston with an onboard tour guide who will customize her tour to our desires. Cast Theatrical Company
Saturday, August 6 | Time TBD | Rosenberg In April we will be calling for bus dates for July –August. Even though we don’t have a bus set up for August yet, we had to make reservations for the annual melodrama performed by the Cast Theatrical Company in Rosenberg on Saturday, August 6. We have 30 tickets reserved and had to work at getting those before they sold out. This is a very popular event in the Rosenberg community. We had lots of fun at “Riding the Rails” last August, being up close and personal, throwing pop corn at the villain, etc. This will be a new show this coming August. The price of a ticket is only $16. Your payment guarantees your reservation. We are unable to order any more tickets. Think about getting your ticket as soon as possible. On the way to Rosenberg, we will have supper at the Live Oak Grill in Sugar Land. We will let you know about departure times later. Bible Trivia Answer Jonah was in the “big fish” for only 3 days. Event Recap Have A Heart For Others Once again, this year’s Have a Heart for Others Dinner and Live Auction was a great success, raising over $25,000 to support BUMC Missions and our community ministry partners. A big thank you to everyone who attended, and to everyone who helped make this event possible! Here are a couple of highlights from the evening.
You can find printed copies of these pictures and many more in the Connection Center on Sunday morning. Thanks to Leo and Fay Peters for making them available.
BUMC NEWS Ministry Grants Now Available Each year, the Bellaire UMC Council on Ministries (COM) provides grants that fund ministry and mission in our community. COM works to fund these ministries, because BUMC is a church of service, and we know that our members are committed to serving our neighbors near and far in a number of really amazing ways. We also know that service requires commitment – spiritual, physical and sometimes monetary. To that end, BUMC wants to help support your service work, and we encourage you to apply for a COM grant. If you have a service project or committee that would like to be considered for funding, please fill out a grant request form and return it by April 1, 2016. The forms are available in the church or via email at cbeathard@comcast.net. For questions, please contact Jim Love at jlove@bellaireumc.org or Cathy Beathard.
Easter Special Offering Each year, the people of BUMC collect a special offering at Easter, above and beyond our regular giving, to support our connectional commitments (apportionments). This year, our Easter Offering will benefit the World Service Fund (WSF), a vital fund that supports United Methodist ministries throughout the country and around the globe. WSF enables ministry as diverse as planting new churches, feeding hungry people, preventing diseases, and training new pastors. Our goal for this year’s Easter Offering is $10,000, which represents just over half of our yearly commitment to the World Service Fund. Every dollar that we raise above and beyond our goal of $10,000 will go to support youth ministry at Bellaire UMC, primarily scholarships for UMARMY, our annual youth mission trip. Will you join us in this special offering? You can find special offering envelopes in the church office, the sanctuary, and the Connection Center. Or, you can give online right now at bellaireumc.org/giveonline.
