Her striking features, coupled with her innate ability to exude both strength and vulnerability, have made her a sought-after model in the industry. She has become an inspirational figure, empowering young women to embrace their authentic selves and pursue their dreams unapologetically. Through her advocacy for body positivity and self-acceptance, Hanya challenges societal norms and encourages others to embrace their unique beauty, flaws, and all. As we delve into the world of influential women, Hanya's impact cannot be overlooked. With her powerful voice and dedication to amplifying underrepresented voices, Hanya has become a driving force for change. Through her grace, talent, and inspiring story, she continues to redefine what it means to be a woman in today's world. Stay tuned for our exclusive interview with Hanya, where she will share her insights, experiences, and plans to inspire the next generation of women in fashion and beyond.
In the competitive world of modeling, what challenges have you faced as an international model, and how have you overcome them? The most important challenge in the competitive world of international modeling is one of a technical matter requiring one to obtain legal work documents ensuring the right to work in any given country. In the case of the United States, a 01B Visa is required. The test of law is whether a model fulfills the need in the marketplace than cannot be filled by an existing citizen. Therein lies the fierce competition, as the United States is where you want to work. The old saying of, "If you can make it in New York, you can make it anywhere,” ramps up the competition. Many models are disappointed to be turned away. Also, in my age category, there are very few models worldwide. To be signed on by such a powerhouse as FORD MODELS NY for a three-year contract at the age of 66 is virtually unheard of and very exciting.
Can you share a defining moment or experience that has shaped your career and personal growth as a model? About two years ago I was shooting with a fabulous team consisting of a photographer, makeup artist, hair stylist, and fashion stylist - a team I respect to this day for their quality of work and creative spirit. It was early in the shoot process when the fashion stylist, Felicia Ann Ryan, turned to me and said "Hanya, you are the future of fashion.'' I was stopped in my tracks at her words. A short time after, Felica wrote a piece in celebration of International Women's Day, stating that “Hanya helped inspire me to write this piece, ‘The Future of Fashion.’” She told me, “In ‘The Future of Fashion,’ I narrate my inner dialogue regarding age and the industry while confronting many of my own longstanding questions that arose after working with Hanya. A future to look forward to, not just in Fashion, but for us." The depth of this was not lost on me. I understood how we are challenged by the aging process and our relevance in the world. When the words sank in, I understood how important it was to have a positive role model for all women, not only in my age category, but even more importantly for all the young women growing up around me. This is the WHY of what I do in my career as a model. What advice would you give aspiring models who are looking to break into the international scene and make a lasting impact? Stay true to yourself, know who you are, and know what you want. Be kind, generous, and humble because that is what people will remember about you. The lasting impression of how you make people feel once you leave the room is what creates success, not only in the modeling world, but in life. And remember to always remain professional, this is a business.

In addition to your modeling career, you are also a passionate advocate for diversity and inclusion. How do you use your platform to promote these values and create positive change in the industry?
Is there any message or words of wisdom you would like to share with our readers who may be facing challenges or trying to exceed expectations in their own lives? Absolutely everyone faces challenges. No matter what it may seem like on the outside, you never know what's happening on the inside. Don't try to live up to anybody else's standards. Have the courage to be true to yourself and to live a life that shows empathy for those around you. Know what your core values are, as they will serve as your foundation to build your life upon. The stronger the foundation, the better the build. Your life is a treasure and a gift, so never let anyone rob you of those gifts. Know your value, your power, and your ability to change things for the better. You are not where you came from, but rather who you are yet to become. Remember this, your best days are still ahead of you.

I am impassioned by many facets of philanthropy. Inclusion and diversity are a way of life. Whenever asked to contribute to fashion shows that uplift the messaging about inclusion and diversity, I am always there, donating my time, talent, and my money. Giving back to charities that build strong bridges for abused women and children is a part of my inner fabric. I have been on executive boards for years that work tirelessly at raising funds to build homes and shelter for those in need, as well as education and schooling. This is beyond important to me and will continue to be so for the rest of my life. To give is to get back and there is no greater gift.
Much love and respect, HANYA.

On my Vanity BELLA INTERN EDITION By Grace Katich What better way to celebrate beauty than to sit our interns down and ask them about their go-to beauty products? We asked each of our BELLA girls what their can’t-live-without product is in their makeup or skincare routines. They each shared the product that never fails them and is always sitting on their vanity.
Victoria Barbieri, Editorial Assistant Summer Fridays ShapeDrops Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Mineral Milk Sunscreen My absolute must-have for my morning skincare routine is the Summer Fridays ShadeDrops Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Mineral Milk Sunscreen. Sunscreen holds the utmost importance in my skincare regimen, as it effectively safeguards my skin from sun damage, skin cancer, and premature aging. I particularly favor the Summer Fridays sunscreen for its lightweight, serum-like texture, enriched with vitamins, antioxidants, and calming chamomile. Not only does it effortlessly provide SPF protection, but it also leaves my skin with a soft, natural finish, making it an essential and favorite part of my daily routine.
Grace Katich Charlotte Tilbury’s Hollywood Flawless Filter Growing up with a face like mine with freckles scattered all over, I always used an extreme amount of foundation to hide my freckles. I would end up looking ghostly and just not like myself. After a few years, I began to embrace my freckles, feeling like they made me, me. I always strived to find a product that could give me the coverage I desired but the ability to see and let my freckles peek through. Then, I came across this product from Charlotte Tilbury, the Hollywood Flawless Filter. This foundation gives you the opposite of the matte cakey look I was trying to escape. The thin foundation is dewy, each drop giving a glow- I end up looking like it’s golden hour at all times of the day. This fountain is heavy enough to cover any blemishes or insecurities I have, but thin enough to allow my freckles to peek through. This product gives me the perfect look for a day in the office or a night out in the city!
Jana Roos, Editorial Assistant Colibri Skincare Night Cream As someone who is not a big fan of lengthy skincare routines with numerous products, the Colibri Skincare Night Cream has become my favorite and an essential part of my nighttime routine. It can be applied not just to the face, chest, and neck but also around the eyes. After a long day, the product leaves my skin feeling relaxed and moisturized before going to bed. With its combination of retinol and ceramides, the night cream contributes to the regeneration of the skin during sleep and strengthens its protective barrier, providing fresh and glowing skin.
Avery Auletta, Social Media Assistant Benefit Cosmetics Benetint PHOTO 1 (Headshot): Credit: Virgin Galactic PHOTO 2 (Candid in Uniform): Credit: Virgin Galactic
Originally created to stain other areas, the Benefit Cosmetics Benetint, is the rosy lip and cheek stain that gives you the perfect “I-bit-into-a-cherry-and-rubbed-iton-my-cheeks” look. The watery texture blends right into your lips and skin, and depending on how many layers you use, can give a natural light finish or a prominent medium finish. After it completely dries, Benetint can and will last you for hours without the need to reapply, but if you find yourself wanting more color, the travel size packaging makes it easy to refresh on the go. My favorite way to use Benetint is as a subtle lip stain with a cool brown lip liner with a clear lip gloss or balm.

MRS MOMMA BEAR WORKWEAR DESIGNER + FOUNDER, LEE EVANS LEE, IS CHANGING THE GAME OF FUNCTIONAL FASHION By Jennifer MacLellan Photography: Italia Grosso
31
As a fifth-generation rancher from West Texas, Lee Evans Lee has lived the essence of “work hard, play hard” her entire life. From raising goats to being a self-proclaimed “rodeo girl,” the unassuming entrepreneur’s ranch-lifestyle is in juxtaposition to her highfashion fringe, lace, and sequins threads. Now, based in San Antonio and Aspen, Lee is a business owner, entrepreneur, wife, and mom, grinding in her daily routine while enjoying life’s extravagances, and everything in between. In the past, this would mean multiple wardrobe changes a day and sacrificing beauty for function depending on the role. A true Momma Bear, Lee saw a deficit in the market and seized the opportunity, clawing her way into the fashion industry. “I've spent a lot of time working on the family ranch. I thrive when spending time outside tending to our ranch – but I grew tired of wearing dickies or workout clothes,” says Lee. “I started searching for something different. I wanted function, I wanted comfort, and I wanted style. And I wanted it all in one.”
32
Milano Jumpsuit
That’s when Lee had an epiphany and created a line for women, by a woman someone who understood the challenges of choosing fashion over function and longing for a stylish solution. Enter Mrs Momma Bear Workwear, the high-end, functional fashion brand that is changing the rules. The everyday pleasure of being in workout clothes without being in workout clothes, MMB offers the comfort and resilience of your favorite yoga pants without ever having to compromise elegance or glamor. Finally, designer style, activewear comfort, and machine washable convenience all in one.
33 Dancing Anyone Jumpsuit
Lee’s longtime passion, met with a piqued interest in creating a niche in the market, was her driving force. She explains, “I've always been obsessed with textiles and design. Inspired by what was missing from my own closet, I created Mrs Momma Bear Workwear. This fashion-forward clothing enables anyone to take on anything that our busy days throw at us. You can now move freely through the day while never compromising on style. This line exists to be functional, durable, and beautiful.” From boardroom savvy suits, to tailored blazers, and sculpted jumpsuits, the MMB styles are clout-worthy yet comfortable. Made of buttery soft fabrics, that give and stretch with every click of your heels (or cowboy boots,) the classic design will draw you in, but the construction will get you hooked. But it isn’t all neutrals and pantsuits, Lee incorporates her unique Texas flair into Mrs Momma Bear with fringe that mimics feathers, pops of color, and funky prints. From her Debut Collection, to the newly released Afterglow Collection, there is a style for any shopper.

MOST REWARDING: My biggest reward is the 100% satisfaction rate from my first 200 customers, followed by the nearly 90% of my customers who have placed a second order. It is also rewarding to receive feedback from clients who claim they no longer wear makeup every day because they feel so confident to go through the day flaunting their flawless complexion. I stand by my claim that my creams are among the best of the best in the market with competitive prices. MOST REWARDING: Fewer than one hundred women in history have ever flown to space and only a handful of mothers. It's the honor of a lifetime to be one of them, but the most rewarding aspect is seeing my journey through my six-year-old daughter Delta's eyes; she's growing up believing that flying to space is just another thing moms do, and she knows not even the sky is a limit on her dreams. SECRET TO MY SUCCESS: I've always said that a superpower of mine is my willingness to be vulnerable, to fail publicly, and to shout my dreams out loud into the universe.

A Career High
FOR “HIGHTOWN” STAR, RILEY VOELKEL By Victoria Barbieri
Photographer: Tyler Patrick Kenny Stylist: Alison Hernon Hair: Corey Tuttle Makeup: Liz Olivier
48
Riley Voelkel is a versatile actress known for her dynamic performances across various television series and films. Born in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and raised in Sacramento, California, Voelkel's journey into acting began after being discovered during a modeling audition. With a natural talent for the arts and a determined spirit, she swiftly transitioned into the acting world, landing her first role in the Oscarnominated film "The Social Network." Since then, Voelkel has captivated audiences with her portrayals in acclaimed series such as "The Newsroom," where she starred opposite Jeff Daniels, and the CW's hit series "The Originals," where she portrayed the beloved character Freya Mikaelson for four seasons. Her ability to embody diverse characters, from a student-turned-assistant to a powerful witch, showcases her range and depth as an actress. Voelkel's latest venture sees her taking on the challenging role of Renee Segna in the Jerry Bruckheimer-produced STARZ series "Hightown." As Renee, a former exotic dancer and fiancée to a drug kingpin, Voelkel delves into complex narratives and brings a fresh perspective to the screen. With her magnetic presence and dedication to her craft, Riley Voelkel continues to leave an indelible mark in the world of entertainment. Can you share with us the process of transforming into your character Renee Segna in "Hightown"? How did you approach portraying a character that is unlike any you've played before? I knew getting into the role of Renee was going to be one of my biggest challenges yet-- and one of the reasons I wanted the role. I watched documentaries, went to strip clubs, and even trained in pole dancing to try to understand Renee’s world. I tried to understand the perspective of someone whose life was so different from mine which helped me to find empathy or purpose behind the decisions she makes. I also always had Rebecca Cutter (our showrunner) in my corner. She gave me insight into what being a mother was like and what her vision was for the character. All of this helped form Renee and as soon as I put on her heels, I became a new person. It was an intense journey and incredibly rewarding to explore such a complex character. With Season 3 of "Hightown" set to debut, what aspects of the upcoming season are you most excited for viewers to experience? How has your character evolved, and what can fans expect from season 3? It’s the final chapter, and with that, a lot comes to the surface this season. The viewers will see the characters really pushed to their limits which shines a light on their truth and who they really are. It’s a wild ride and I’m excited for the viewers to see the real and messy sides of these characters. We also welcome some amazing new cast members and characters this season. As far as Renee’s evolution, I think in season one Renee is surviving in a dark world the only way she knows how… relationships are transactional and she’s almost a pawn in the game. In season two, she starts becoming a game player and becomes more aware of her power and how to use it, but with that comes a web of lies. In season three I think both the viewers and Renee begin to see her truth. She’s now faced with navigating her dark secrets and coming to terms with what she really wants. We find out how far she’s willing to go to get it.

You've been compared to Charlize Theron, known for her versatility and powerful performances. How do you handle such comparisons, and do you see any specific similarities or inspirations in your acting style or career choices? Well, that is quite the compliment! I love her and am inspired by her talent and career. I have immense respect and admiration for the risks she takes with her roles and aim to embrace roles that push boundaries, just as she does. I find the most fulfillment in roles that demand exploration and new perspectives. Her career, talent and style are her own, but I am honored to be compared in any way and aspire to carve out a career that could be as impactful as the one she has. With an impressive list of credits, from "The Newsroom" to "The Originals" and now "Hightown," could you share a moment or project that stands out as a particularly meaningful or memorable experience in your career so far? Every project I’ve been a part of has been meaningful to me and my growth as an actor. THE NEWSROOM was my first recurring role and I learned so much every day getting to work with Aaron Sorkin and some of the most talented actors in the world. It felt like the best acting school I could have had. THE ORIGINALS was my first long term series regular role. Getting to build a character over the course of multiple seasons was an amazing journey and the fanbase is incredible. In HIGHTOWN I was surrounded by the most extraordinary cast and crew who constantly inspired me. Everyone on that set cared about telling the story and it created a rare and special dynamic that I felt so lucky to have been a part of.

As someone who has been an influential figure in the music industry for many years, what drives your passion for creating music and performing? First, I believe it's the creativity – I love it when inspiration strikes while I'm writing a song, crafting the lyrics and melody. It's like being in "the zone," where space and time melt away, and a beautiful song emerges. There's truly nothing quite like it. Secondly, I adore traveling and performing. Meeting people from diverse backgrounds, witnessing their joy as they sing along to my songs brings me immense fulfillment. I feel incredibly blessed to share the gifts that bring happiness to the world, and I try never to take them for granted.
Throughout your career, you have achieved massive success with hits like "Gypsy Woman (She's Homeless)" and set a unique path for yourself in the dance music genre. Could you share the challenges you faced in breaking barriers, and how did you overcome them? When I first started in House Music, it was primarily confined to underground nightclubs, making it challenging to be taken seriously; critics dismissed my music as a passing fad. Many doubted my ability to create "real music." Yet, I knew in my heart that I was different and that being distinctive was what I embraced and excelled in. Moreover, being a woman in a male-dominated industry posed its challenges, as some producers sought inappropriate expectations. Overcoming these obstacles required resilience, conviction, and ultimately, surrounding myself with a team that supported my authenticity. 61
You were one of the trailblazers in the dance music movement of the 1990s, introducing a fresh sound to the mainstream. Reflecting on your journey, how do you feel your music has left a lasting impact on the industry, and what legacy do you aspire to leave? Looking back fills me with pride, especially witnessing major artists like Beyoncé, Drake, and Ariana Grande incorporating House influences into their music. It validates the enduring relevance and love for a genre that many originally perceived as temporary. To envision that I played a part in its longevity is profoundly rewarding. As for my legacy, I hope to inspire others to embrace their uniqueness confidently.
Your music is known for its uplifting and empowering lyrics. How do you find inspiration for your songs, and what message do you aim to convey to your listeners? My inspiration stems from observing people and situations rather than through verbal communication; I listen and watch closely. Everyone aspires to improve themselves, seeking encouragement and hope along their journey. I strive to craft lyrics that acknowledge individuals' worth, uplift their spirits, and inspire them to strive for betterment. By exploring various perspectives and not just the obvious, I find the essence of my inspiration. Throughout your career, you have collaborated with numerous artists and producers. Is there a particular collaboration that holds a special place in your heart? How do you navigate the creative process when working with others? Collaborating with Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis remains a standout experience for me. It was a dream come true, as I never imagined venturing into their esteemed realm within my genre. In my creative process, I typically work independently on my part, honing the melody and lyrics to a producer's track. While I enjoy mutual feedback and constructive exchanges, I ensure that the final product aligns with both our visions. Respect for creative input is vital in collaborations. I cherish the days when I recorded vocals in the studio alongside producers, an element I plan to incorporate more in my upcoming album.

I am involved in various projects, including hosting a monthly iTunes podcast called "I Am House Radio," syndicated in 52 stations across 19 countries, as well as a weekly show on SiriusXM featuring the same title. My recent single "Dance Dance Dance" has reached impressive ranks on the UK charts. Additionally, I've signed on with Coven Modeling Management NYC and am gearing up for a global tour this spring.

Meet the Founders + Learn More About Their Four Pillars ROSEMARIE YOUNG: CONNECTIONS REAL ESTATE ATTORNEY | AUTHOR | SPEAKER
“I have always considered myself to be a people person. Engaging in conversation comes naturally to me, whether it’s deep, heartfelt discussions, sharing a laugh so deep it leaves us breathless, or sharing a moment of vulnerability that brings tears to our eyes. It’s within these moments, surrounded by the warmth of genuine connection, where I find a sense of belonging, a part of something far greater than myself. For much of my life, I grappled with a profound sense of disconnection, feeling unheard and unacknowledged. This pervasive loneliness eroded my sense of self-worth, casting long shadows over every choice I made and leaving me emotionally vulnerable. Feelings threatened not only my emotional well-being but also my financial stability, plunging my confidence to its lowest depths.
66
I embarked on a journey towards healing. It was a path that led me to recognize the transformative power of connection. From there, I found sanctuary among a circle of women whose hearts resonated with love, understanding, and compassion. You see, connection nurtures our emotional and psychological well-being, providing a sense of security and support. It reminds us that we are not traveling alone on this journey of life but part of a vast network of intertwined paths. Inspirame Latina is that community where you feel embraced, heard, and understood.”

“Education plays a crucial role in one's success as it helps define one's journey and path. It's a source of growth and development that can take your dreams further than you can even imagine. My name is Jacqueline Vazquez, and I am a part of the Inspirame Latina Foundation. I can vividly recall being in college and struggling in my first course. My instructor suggested that I change my major, which was disheartening as I felt she didn't offer me the support I needed, such as tutoring or guidance. Nonetheless, I persevered and found a way to make it through and graduate. I share my story to encourage you not to let anyone stand in your way of achieving the best education possible. I could have easily been one of the many who abandoned their dreams, but I didn't allow anyone to take them away from me. This is why I am a part of the Inspirame Latina Foundation - to let you know that you can overcome any obstacle and achieve your goals through education.”
YUDY VERAS BUENO: HEALING TRANSFORMATIONAL LIFE COACH | AUTHOR | SPEAKER
“Many years ago, I found myself in a very dark and scary place. I was physically ill, dealing with chronic anxiety, panic attacks, depression, and eating disorders. All of this was a result of unresolved childhood trauma. At first glance, everything seemed perfect in my life. I had a wonderful family, a loving husband, two healthy children, a successful career, and a beautiful home. Yet, deep down, I was struggling. I felt defeated and desperate, but I didn't know how to ask for help or who to turn to. I was overwhelmed both physically and mentally, felt sad and exhausted, and realized that I was living on autopilot. Then, one day, I suffered a heart failure, which was a terrifying wake-up call for me. My father died when I was seven years old, so the thought of leaving my children was unbearable. I realized that I had been fighting the universe all along. But then, something changed. I finally understood that I needed to find help get help, and my life was transformed forever. “I grew up in a small town in the Dominican Republic with my grandmother, who was a true warrior. As we walked the streets of our community, I held her hand and helped people along the way. She was an incredible and empowering woman who encouraged and gave hope to our neighbors. To me, she was a true leader who embodied the leadership skills that many of us have inside ourselves. She was my role model, who taught me that with hard work, action, and perseverance, you can achieve anything. We must lead by example and inspire others to follow in our footsteps. Inspirame Latina is a foundation committed to fostering and empowering leadership skills in individuals. Our goal is to equip and empower people to become leaders, thereby uplifting their communities both spiritually and financially. From Hollywood actresses and singers to business moguls and activists, these women are redefining what it means to be a "girl boss." Get inspired by their stories of resilience, success, and breaking barriers, and discover what makes them unique trailblazers in their respective fields. Team BELLA pays tribute to these fearless leaders and their commitment to shattering glass ceilings and inspiring the next generation of female change-makers.
Vanessa Coppes, CEO + Editor-In-Chief I have always admired Issa Rae for her bold creativity, authenticity, and commitment to telling diverse stories that resonate with audiences from all walks of life. Whether through her hit HBO series "Insecure" or her various creative projects, Issa consistently challenges societal norms, celebrates representation, and empowers marginalized voices. Her ability to blend humor with social commentary and her genuine passion for uplifting others make her a true trailblazer in the entertainment industry. I love Issa Rae for her fearlessness, her drive to create meaningful content, and her unapologetic commitment to being true to herself and her roots.
Jennifer MacLellan- Editorial Director Reese Witherspoon is an ultimate boss babe girl crush, in my opinion. Not only has her acting career spanned decades, but she has also played iconic roles, championed both film and television, and is the queen of always portraying the beautiful and sweet girl next door. One of my favorite movies of all time is Sweet Home Alabama and I literally must watch it in its entirety every time it comes on (my husband loves that.) Her genuine, goofy, and relatable personality shines through on her social media pages and she’s the epitome of a goal BFF. Besides acting, she has stolen my geeky literary heart, and I will breeze through any book stamped with the “Reese’s Book Club” seal. She is also the founder of Hello Sunshine, a media company that aims to broaden perspective and empower women by giving them authorship and creating a platform to help them shape culture and the world around them. Reese and her endeavors strive to change the narrative by championing women’s stories at the highest level. Did I mention she also launched an adorable clothing brand, Draper James, a nod to her Southern roots, and is involved in countless philanthropic efforts? Love her, enough said.
Lynette Barbieri- Senior Director of Sales + Business Development Suze Orman is a role model and a badass in the realm of financial education. I look up to her because of her remarkable impact on financial literacy and empowerment. When I started in the male dominated financial industry over twenty-five years ago, Suze was a woman in the industry that I could follow, learn from, and look up too. She dedicated her career to educating people about personal finance, which I was aspiring to do. Her commitment to empowering individuals to take control of their financial future aligns with my values, and her advocacy for financial independence has inspired me and countless individuals.

Amanda Mactas- Lifestyle Contributor Since I worked on novels this month for the issue’s “A Novel Idea” section, I wanted to stick to theme with my pick for celebrity crush. Oftentimes men get the credit for developing the weird world of horror, but Jennifer McMahon pens some of the spookiest books I’ve read. They keep me up late into the night wanting to know what happens next, oftentimes with the lights still on. I can’t wait to see what she comes up with next. Martha Luna- Fashion Contributor Rihanna is my fashion muse and girl crush model. At only 35 years old she is a billionaire and an icon in fashion, singer, businesswoman, actress, and songwriter. When I started my career in the fashion industry I looked up to Rihanna because she’s unapologetic about the different hats she wears in her life, style, and career. She taught me that no one can put you in a box, she's one of my role models. Both immigrant backgrounds, like this Barbadian singer to an entrepreneur owning Savage X Fenty, Fenty Beauty, and Fenty. She’s a powerhouse woman who teaches us all that you can do it - come from nothing and achieve what you believe in. And now as a mother of 2 beautiful boys, she inspires me even more. As a humanitarian myself, I love that she is the founder of CLF. Rihanna founded the Clara Lionel Foundation in 2012." Today, the foundation supports and funds innovative and effective education and emergency response programs around the world, aiming to improve the quality of life for young people everywhere. It’s about a kind heart with a giving mission.
Daniela Uribe- BELLA Latina Beauty + Lifestyle Contributor Karol G is my celebrity crush, not just for her outstanding music, her fame or even because she is Colombian like me, but for her inspiring journey to success, which echoes my own aspirations and I find very close too. Like Karol, who ventured into a risky male-dominated music genre, I took a bold step into the competitive world of luxury footwear, challenging giants like Jimmy Choo and Louboutin with my own brand retailing at their prices, with the same quality but not fame to my name yet. Despite the risks and facing rejection, like Karol was told a woman couldn't succeed in urban music, I too faced skepticism about entering the luxury market and told I couldn’t succeed. We both also share in having supportive families that fuel our resiliency. Whenever doubts creep in, Karol G's story lifts me up, reminding me that with persistence and belief, achieving my dream of becoming a renowned shoe designer is within reach.
Mindy + Paula, The Style Duo – Cover + Features Stylists As identical twins, we’ve always admired the talent and relationship of the Olsen twins! We often talk about the advantages of working as a duo, and we feel that Ashley and Mary-Kate have also embraced their twinhood in a beautiful way. Through thick and thin they’ve shown their unconditional support of one another and continue to create wonderful businesses as a team. We love how they crossed over from the entertainment world into the fashion world and their brands and style are impeccable. Everything they touch from movies to fashion houses simply turns to gold. When they say twinning is winning, it really rings true with the empires the Olsen twins have created as a pair.

Where the Dead Wait By Ally Wilkes From the creative mind of Bram Stoker Award-nominated author Ally Wilkes comes a – quite literally – chilling novel that takes place over the course of two fateful Arctic expeditions. William Day is an Arctic explorer whose last outing ended in disgrace – the survivors were said to have eaten their dead in order to survive. Thirteen years later, one of his former shipmates goes missing in the same area as their disastrous trip and Day is tasked with finding and bringing the crew home. Yet eerie coincidences keep occurring and have Day rehashing the horrors of his past.
Baby X By Kira Peikoff This modern-age thriller delves into the amazing, yet frightening prospect of a technology that allows anyone to conceive a child from any DNA, which can be converted into either sperm or egg cells. Popular musician Trace Thorne hires a bio-security guard to protect himself from a black market operation called The Vault, used to steal celebrity cells and produce offspring. Reminiscent of Black Mirror, this novel will make you think about new-age technology and how it can impact our future. The Mysterious Case of The Alperton Angels By Janice Hallett Lovers of true crime will dive head-first into this page-turning cult novel. This story follows true crime journalist Amanda Bailey, who decides to look into the 18-year-old case of the Alperton Angels. This cult became famous for brainwashing a teenage girl to believe that her baby was the anti-Christ, but once the veil lifted and she alerted the police, the rest of the cult committed suicide and the mother and baby duo vanished. While researching the case, Amanda teams up with a rival journalist, and together they uncover how dark this tale truly is.

WITH MELISSA NGAN, A WOMAN WHO IS CHANGING THE ARTS By Yolanda F. Johnson
This Women’s History Month, I’m taking the opportunity to spotlight a woman who is moving, shaking, and impacting the world. From ensuring the future of performing artists to helping educate the masses, Melissa Ngan is leading the way and inspiring us all to use our gifts, talents, and skills to take meaningful action in our society. Melissa Ngan, CEO American Composers Orchestra Melissa Ngan cultivates personal and organizational growth through creative acts and collaborative practices. She has over fifteen years of experience in civic practice-based program design; arts administration; diversity, equity, and inclusion practices; professional development and entrepreneurship in the arts; and as a professional flutist. Melissa was previously Founder and CEO of the Chicago-based Fifth House Ensemble. Active as a speaker and educator, she serves on the faculties of the Eastman School of Music, DePauw University, and DePaul University, and has presented at Opera America, Chamber Music America, and College Music Society. Why is Women's History Month important? I think we all should be keenly aware of who walked ahead of us, who walks alongside us, and who will walk after us. Marking this month as an opportunity to remember the efforts, contributions, and sacrifices of the many women who opened doors and defied expectations so that we can do the same for the next generation is an important annual reminder - and an invitation to make sure we continue to act with the same fearlessness and generosity. Describe your leadership philosophy or style. My leadership style is focused on deep listening and curiosity. Visionary leadership is a practice of sitting in the quiet long enough to hear the teacher within, cultivating a team with perspectives and skill sets very different from your own, and constantly asking the right questions of those who most engage with your work. Cultivating consistent dialogue between the insights gathered from those spaces generates the kind of work you wouldn’t have been able to imagine any other way and involves those around you at every step. What's next for you in 2024? As President of the American Composers Orchestra, I have the pleasure of making creative dreams come true every day. 2024 brings fresh opportunities to do exactly that. Our EarShot program is a creative accelerator for new American orchestral music encompassing composer readings, residencies, and commissioning opportunities in partnership with orchestras nationwide - all to ensure a vibrant and inclusive future. A highlight of my year is the opportunity to join hands once again with National Black Theatre and the Apollo Theater to bring The Gathering, an evening of healing, liberation, and joy, to the Kennedy Center on June 1.
