The 2018 Student Managed Farm Purebred Team - Powered by New Holland, would like to welcome you to the 5th Annual Beef Day. Last year the team welcomed Red Angus calves to the herd and since then we have continued to source the industry’s leading genetics to provide quality breeding cattle for our customers. We believe the bulls on offer are a great representation of the quality cattle Lakeland College has to offer. This year’s bulls are some of the most honest, hardworking cattle you’ll find anywhere. Whether you’re looking for a calving ease bull for your heifer pen, or a bull to add performance to your cow herd; we can fill your needs. We are confident these bulls will go out and work for you, no matter the type of operation! The cows that produced these bulls go back to the original herd founded in 1938. Cows that are sound structured, functional with a long line of longevity. These cows have the genetics to improve any herd. Our herd sire Merit Source 5079C has played a big role in our herd, adding needed performance with a great genetic background. We are offering 14 bulls this year; nine are sons of Merit Source 5079C. The focus of our team is to continue the growth of our herd’s genetic pool and to provide bulls that are trait leaders within the breed. We continue to grow our herd by retaining females we believe are trait leaders with great phenotype. As well as continuing to flush top performing females within the herd such as OAV Classy 4Z and OAV Laura 25T. As a group we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the continued support from the beef industry and the Angus community. As students, we have had the opportunity to take on roles similar to those we will encounter while out in the industry. Networking at shows and events has given us the chance to increase our industry contacts. Beef Day is our chance to showcase the knowledge and skills we have gained since becoming a member of the team in September 2017. On behalf of the Purebred Team, we would like to invite you to view the bulls Friday March 23, at the Lakeland College Equine Center. If you would like to view the bulls prior to the sale or discus any bulls we have on offer, feel free to call the numbers listed.

This wide topped, strong footed Merit Source son will catch your eye right when you walk in the pen. This deep bodied bull is arguably one of the best moving bulls in the pen, he came off the cow at 816lbs during weaning season, and has never looked back. This calf made waves this fall on the show circuit placing top two in all his classes and grabbing quite a bit of attention during his stop at the Canadian Bull Congress in Camrose. Don’t be fooled, this bull will change your herd and catch your eye with his overall stoutness and strong muscling features. Circle this one in your catalogue, he is one of the primary reasons we are offering DLMS this year to make your bidding easier on sale day.

OAV 56E If you are looking for a bull to go out and breed cow’s year after year, then look no farther then this Source son. Out of a first calf heifer, this bull is one of the most moderate framed bulls on offer this year, but he also has lots of muscle expression. Like so many other bulls on offer his feet and legs speak for themselves. If moderate framed is your interest, then don’t look past this bull.
OAV 58E If adding depth of body and spring of rib is on your list of desirable traits for your next herd bull, then don’t look past this young herd sire. When you get behind this bull he is one of the widest topped bulls in the pen. With a modest 81-pound birthweight you have a lot of great features coming together to make up a great bull. OAV 105E This bull really brings it all together for his age. He is the youngest bull in the sale, but you could never tell. Starting out with smooth shoulders that flows all the way back to his lower third and down to the feet and legs. His dam OAV Holly 36B has been a high producing female in the herd and has no problem putting performance into her calves.
OAV 39E Here is a wide and thick made type of bull. With a great profile to go along with that and you will not be disappointed when you get behind him and look. This Source son has the performance to increase calf weights and add some scrotal size to your herd. Sporting an 88-pound birthweight you don’t want to look past him.

Here is another one time offer in our sale this year, OAV 14E is the only bull to be sire by Bushs Easy Decision and out of our foundation female OAV Classy 4Z! He is in the running for the most powerful bull in the pen. His great leg and feet confirmation combined with plenty of growth and power make this deep bodied and wide topped embryo calf a sure fire hit.
