Welcome to our 20th Anniversary Bull Sale at the Farm!

It seems like yesterday when we started our venture into having a bull sale. I have memories from being 8 years old and going all the way to Lloyd to have a joint sale with our previous sale partners. I’d like to give a head nod to Barry, Richard, and Dale who played a big part in those early sales, many memories, and good times back in the day!

We had a great 13 years selling bulls In Lloyd, and have loved the past 6 years, coming 7 of being able to have the sale at home. The switch was evident the first year back in 2017, the cattle look better, the sires and dams are here for the most part to view, and we are able to feel comfortable being in our own environment and being able to host everyone! I remember even prior to starting our own sale, Dad used to be gone for an entire month it seemed like. He was heading off to Pride of the Prairies, Battleford Bull Sale, and even Spiritwood Bull Sale! Many things have changed over the years, better pictures, online marketing, internet bidding, sale videos. The fact that people can be at home, get chores done and watch and bid on DLMS is something that has really changed the game in the livestock business! With all that, one thing is for certain, the friendships with customers seem to never fade and we are extremely grateful to see those familiar faces year after year. Many yards and familiar faces are what we look forward to year after year! The majority of our bulls go to repeat customers every year. Without all the incredible cattle farms, and the people who operate them, we would not be able to operate.

As we get into the sale offering, we are thrilled to showcase the group of bulls that we have compiled! They are all perfect examples of the type and kind that we have grown to love. They are a clear idea of how Dad and myself, like our cattle. With the key goal of keeping the commercial operations in mind. One of the most rewarding things is to see the “diverse” group we have, whether you’re in the hunt for Fullbloods, Reds, Blacks, power bulls, or calving Ease bulls! We believe that strong cow family’s is what keeps our operation going, and with that, we are proud of our hard-working cowherd.

I’d like to give Mom and Dad a shout out for all their hard work. I was telling mom how if I wasn’t brain washed into doing chores as a kid and became addicted to the cattle game, that she and dad, would probably spend their winters in the Bahamas or on an Alaskan Cruise! Thanks to Dad for putting up with me and my dumb ideas and working alongside myself every day, I know it’s not easy handing over the reins at some capacity to your kid. Especially one who likes to try new ways of doing things. Also, a big thank you to Ash, she seems to be the missing piece to my frayed and roughed up puzzle that makes me, me. It’s not easy being with a farmer and I really appreciate everything she does. If your needing a horse, some training or many other Equine Services, she’s the woman to talk to! This year has been a relatively hard one on the family, we laid our beloved Grandpa to rest. It’s very difficult seeing the old boys grow old. We miss seeing him at the farm, miss going to visit him in town. I was a very fortunate kid being able to grow up working with my grandpa with three generations on the farm, I will never take that for granted. We will never forget all the conversations and great memories that we shared. Blush lost a good one in Grandpa Karl! Farm on friend. I strongly urge you to call myself, dad, or anyone in the sales staff to discuss more about the offering and have a visit! We know the cattle and can assist you on whatever topic needed. We have great trust in the team at DLMS and of course our favourite auctioneer, Mr. Hurlburt! We also would like to thank many of the folks who come when needed, help us out when we are in a pinch, and make ungrateful jobs, so much more grateful! Dwayne, Kim, Justin are great people to get a hold of if your needing some extra help with the sale offering as well! Thanks to everyone that helps with pictures and videos throughout the year! It’s a great opportunity to catch up, and have a visit! We are more than excited to tour you through the cattle, whenever it works on your schedule and timeline. We do everything in our power to deliver every single animal in the offering to your doorstep. It’s a time to learn about your program and seeing what makes your livelihood thrive!

Consider this your personal invitation to join us on February 29, 2024 at the Farm, Unity, SK! Or join us online at DLMS.ca!

another year has passed and were doing footnotes again! Always need a bull to lead off the sale catalogue and I feel as though it’s a great chance for our new herd sire Jerick to lead off the charge for our 20th sale with his first group of calves! 95L will always likely be a bull that I think about and am very proud to have produced. Coming from a young second calver, he had a nice modest 90lb birthweight and she knocked it out of the park bringing home this one at 1100 lbs! If you’re an EPD person you will see that he is in the top 1% for MWWT and Top 2% for MK. I hold these R-Five Elliot Daughters in high regards with their ability to raise the bar and blow the doors off, and going above and beyond all of our expectations. 95L I feel has a large future ahead of him, considering he’s likely to be one of the best calves to roll through the farm in my life thus far. Thick middle, super long, liver red, wavy hair, structural sound, he would work in a lot of great cattle operations! Count him in, in this year’s breeding plans, he’s an exceptional calf that I have high hopes for.

HORNED FULLBLOOD FULL FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. I’m going to sound like a broken record going down the list of Jerick calves. Again, this group of Fullbloods are by far the most uniform group that we have compiled over the years and 67L just happens to be a ¾ brother to Lot 1! This guy has a little more size frame wise compared to 95L but he shares similar attributes for his deep liver red colour, hair, and structure. He has that swagger since he was born, had that “bull look,” and has many positive characteristics we strive to build and create. The combination of Jerick and the Elliott, the daughters are starting to prove that they can compete with the cows in their prime. One thing is for certain, it’s hard to beat their udder structure and mothering ability. His dam 30H raised one of the best fullblood heifers last year, again she is set to calve early Jan! Another modest 90 lb BW and a super high ranking 1030 WWT. Take your pick, pretty hard to make a poor choice here! If you need a couple bulls this spring, double up on a couple Jericks!

Bull Selection Sight-Unseen If you are unable to attend the sale but are interested in the offering, please give Corey or Alan a call and we will personally go over which bulls we think would work in your operation. Call prior to the sale to discuss what we have to offer. 5

HORNED FULLBLOOD FULL FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. If you notice on the dam ages on the first group of bulls in the sale, you’ll realize that the first 4 are all off of “H” Cows! They did a great job raising these calves on some really dry ground this past summer. Little different pedigree on the Maternal side of this pedigree. 134H is colored just like this guy and birthed him out at 81lbs. Calving ease and growth is something that you are going to be able to get with this sire group with the added bonus of pigment. I would say that 33L is a bull that I might have the most desire to use for myself on my own cows. He would do a whole lot of good and I feel that he likely will lead off the sale in some capacity! It’s not often that they come with all the bonus attributes, full fleck, liver red, tons of hair, great foot structure, and a nice small head on him. I’m sure I’ll be interested in where this one goes, maybe come and find him for myself later In the future!

calf with characteristics that are an absolute must in the cattle business, huge hipped, rugged, deep, soggy, and a dinner table top. 160L would be a dream bull to build those big middle steers that would really weigh up heavy. Another Jerick son that really checks all the boxes and has an interesting pedigree going back to the world renowned Jahari bull. His mother was purchased from our good friend Barry of North Creek Simmentals, she was part of a package of heifers and was by far on the top of the list. This one is sure to be a “catch,” if you take some time to go through the pen. He’s friendly, extremely flashy, and maybe if he was a little older he could be the one leading off the sale!

HORNED FULLBLOOD FULL FLECKVIEH.

First thing to do on this one is look at his Birthdate. Just a March 12 calf that might be the best performance bull of all the pen! He competes just like his paternal sibs and by sale day will likely be the biggest bull in the sale offering. Top 1% for MWWT, actual WWT of 1000lbs, and an 89 lb BWT! Wow. His dam was purchased from Antrim in Manitoba a few years back and we are really excited to have this female at Blush! Solid topped, great structure and heavy hoof on him, we are really excited to see how he continues to perform. Past sibs have sold to Westbound Ranch at Cadogan, AB, and Dustin Meyers at Minton, SK.

POLLED FULLBLOOD FULL FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. We are slowly starting to have more polled Fullbloods in the sale, it is going to allow for more options to keep those horns off calves. I would say this guy has lots of things that make him desirable. He is an elite herd sire prospect that has a powerful dam in 126F. She was purchased from Diamond T as a bred heifer and has been one hell of a cow as she reaches her prime. 50L has that great liver red pigment, he is great footed, thick topped, and stout! He really has nothing to hide. Breed him to many different types of females to add some pounds on the steers, but make front running females like his dam. I have grown very fond of the Anchor D Imax females and there always the best uddered and broody females in the pen. Defiantly a bull who would make the list of favourites and be in the performance pen come sale day.

Lot 6, Imax and Jerick combination just plain out works. The first thing you’ll notice when you walk in the pen is, middle! Not sure you can make the thicker, meatier, and still have all other attributes that make him unique. His dam is a hardworking female who we have a lot of potential in and did a good job on him in the middle of a drought. I feel as though he will work on those second and third calver, no matter the type or kind and colour. Great footed, great topped, the list of goods continues to grow.

POLLED FULLBLOOD FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. Awesome middle of February Hamlin son that carries himself very well. The Andrea cow family is one that has a bright future here at the farm. They are dark pigmented females, strong udders beneath them, and really are the right kind for raising bulls. The hair is phenomenal on 162L and his length of spine and softens really makes him even more appealing. I think that this one would be a great asset on some young females and likely some heifers! Take advantage of those calving ease numbers!

HORNED PUREBRED. Well we decided that we needed a little extra size for some of the performance cows a couple seasons ago so we added Hamlin to the fleet! He is a testament to the fact that sometimes the pedigrees from years prior need to be used again because they are tried, tested and true. Speaking of True, True Grit, a bull that we have the fortune of walking for years and also just happens to be the sire of this guy’s dam. His mother is one of the herd matrons and one that you will fall in love with for her capacity, thickness, and broodiness. Double bred Venom, a splash of MFI Jeremiah, it ends up being a combustion of greatness. HORNED FULLBLOOD FULL FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. A start of February calf that continues to be a front runner in the bull pen. I really respect how this guy is built and I’m sure he will gather many friends on sale day. His mother is a female who I wish I had a 100 of. She’s a polled female that we purchased from Swantewitt’s a few years ago and maybe the only thing we regret is not buying more from there. She produced the lead off fullblood bull 2 years ago who made his journey to Iverness, Quebec at Ferme Bilodeau Des Etoiles INC! Similar in makeup, this guy has big shoes to fill! The hair on this guy is hard to beat and the fact that he has heavy pigment with his goggles, moustache, and liver red just like we want them. Polled Genetics mixed with the best horned genetics in the business! Check him out for yourself.

HORNED FULLBOOD FULL FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. Another son off the good 308A cow, you just can’t get rid of her! Consistency is key in this pedigree; every year it is obvious she is going to wean off an awesome calf. Her first going to Creekside Simmentals who was 9 when it was time to go down the road! Her second calf went to Sweet Creek Ranch, the third to Ian & Bernadette Poppleton, another to RF Farms, Diamond J Simmentals, and a daughter is the dam to Lot 2! A track record that is undeniable and a female who we all strive to have in our herds. 140L has performance, incredible length of spine, pigment, and very sound footed. This one will breed a lot of females as a yearling and get the job done. Ranked high in the lead off pen!

in the pen and off a cow that dad fell in love with early when she stepped off the trailer from Double Bar D. The feather cow family is one that we are very fond of, 49F has accomplished a lot in her early stages of production. Her first son sold to Crossroad Farms and went to work in their heifer pen. He second went to the great folks at Dwayne Patterson’s farm up north, and last year’s heading to Dustin Meyers. Again, this year she’s caught early, and ready to pop out another great one. This guy’s smooth made, deep red to the hoof, and really sticks out among the bull pen we’ve assembled. Feather doesn’t fear anything that’s thrown at her and has the “no excuse” attitude. A nice 74lb BWT, every year they just slide right out of her on early gestation, he really might be a unicorn when it comes to all the good he has in him! Multipurpose calf that could be used on heifers or cows. Approved for Heifers.

HORNED FULLBLOOD FULL FLECKVIEH. NON-DILUTER. It’s not that often

that you have a calf end up in a dire situation like 100L. Unfortunately, we lost our beloved Bonchuk cow in March last spring. This guy really did it all on his own. He put his big boy pants on and went to work providing for himself. It’s tough to call him an “orphan” when he weaned off that high! It just goes to show that some genetics really have incredible powers. Double bred MFI Jeremiah, a hint of Silver Lake Dealer, I think that the proof is in the pudding. 100L is thick bodied, as correct as they come, and super easy on the eyes. All that’s missing is a great group of cows to go with him.

POLLED FULLBLOOD. NONDILUTER. A polled Hamlin son

that is full of pigment, fancy hair coat, and long as a train! Another great opportunity to acquire a Full Fleck herdbull prospect. There is some power in this pedigree, the combo of Jeremiah, Venom, Real Deal, and splash of calving ease with Radium puts this one altogether. The Dam on this one really gets me fired up, a really good polled fullblood female that has been known to outproduce herself every year. Two maternal sibs have sold in our sale going to the U.S, to Tim Steffan, of Manning North Dakota, and a heifer to the great folks at R-Five Simmentals at Bluffton AB. A pedigree who sends calves across North America! lot

POLLED FULLBLOOD NON-DILUTER.

Every year we seem to breed our top fullblood heifers to the one, the only, Anchor D Imax. They come easy, grow, and always end up with something in the sale. I absolutely love the Imax females that we have in our herd, and think that they are some of the best ones we have ever had. This guy is really well balanced, tons of middle and muscle, and off of a really nice Stone daughter. This Dam is actually a maternal sibling to our lot 15 calf. Like I always say, cow families are really important. 68L is polled, and is overall a really nice piece to your potential breeding puzzle.

Calving Ease

Over the last few years, we have noticed a fair share of Cattleman wanting a touch smaller birthweights on the bulls they are buying. We have put that to mind and used some calving ease sires while still maintaining that growth and performance. You don’t need the biggest cow to raise the best bulls, you just need a cow that puts her calf before herself! Every calf gets weighted right after they are born and anything that needs our assistance, loses its chance at making the bull pen the next year! Here is a helpful system to assist you in selection!

HOMO POLLED. Well it’s not hard to pick this one out of the pen! If you remember a few years back, the dam to this guy 849F raised a lead off bull who sold to Weiss Ranching and was our High Seller that year. We grew so fond of “Cash” that were actually using him intensively in our A.I program now. We have really loved the Absolute Females, and feel they are the right kind for todays livestock industry. Moderate, deep and broody, and very eye appealing. 120L has an extra rib to him, extremely long based, and strong footed, the type of herdbull prospect that will go out and be successful. These Freadey calves come small, grow like weeds, and go and get the job done, and have been very sought after for quite a few years now! Last year’s full sib sold to Tyler Applin. The testicular development on these Freadey calves is quite impressive to say the least, massive scrotal development and great fertility on the daughters of 16F. Great opportunity to get one off of our very best!

HOMO POLLED. Notice here, this guy just so happens to be ¾ Fullblood! Best of both worlds. I feel as though as we go farther into the genetic pool that it’s important to be crossing the reds, with the blacks, and somehow once again with fullblood. This is a perfect indication that if you breed good cattle, to good cattle, regardless of the colour, that cross really can-do great things. The Simmental business is truly like having three separate breeds! 106L has some performance and size, yet carries himself extremely well. He’s one of my favourite calves in the pen, due to the fact, he’s got nothing to hide, he is a real chunk! His mother is a strong Recoil female who is really starting to put the jets on and produce front pen progeny. Likely, we will be breeding her back the same way to make more of these crosses in the future.

Yes, he’s got some more chrome then I wish he did, but does it really matter when he is so well put together? I don’t think so! He’s got it all, the depth, width of top, a lovely skeleton design on his front end, and carries down his hip really well. He strides out extremely well and I appreciate him for his great structure when you check out his feet. His Dam, 24F is a female who gets the job done every year, nice clean tidy udder to boot. The Tori cow family is one that has grown to be the largest cow family that we have. Maternal sibs to this guy have sold to Lakeview Colony, as well as the Applin Family, the rest of the maternal sisters have been retained in our herd. 150L is dark liver red, and would be one of the best performance bulls in the red offering this year for sure. Holy cow is this one thick! Take a peek at his EPD’s, Top 4% in the breed for WWT and YWT! Performance with calving ease makes for a combustible combination. We all strive for the calves that get up and go right after birth. This one’s dam, 77G is a really nice female who unfortunately isn’t on the Simmental registry, but should have been! She is a female who exuberates all the essential positives you want in a cow, and is really taking big strides as she starts to hit her prime. Money maker combination if I had to guess. He will add weight in those steers, and make really broody replacement females. A bloodline that just works and is very lethal in many different situations.

HOMO POLLED. An interesting bull in this one! I really love the style, shape, and swagger to this one. Super stout in his makeup and one with the great Lady Tori cow family behind him. For several years we have had several bulls be ¾ and lots of full sibs. Why fix what’s not broken! 846F raised a full sib in our 2022 Sale that went to the great folks at Kuzio Farms. Again, some calving ease in this one’s pedigree, but also some really good growth and performance. I can’t say how much I love the Absolute females and were lucky to have another one in this pedigree. The foot structure, and rib shape to this guy makes me really enjoy seeing him in the pen every day. 129L continues to fill big shoes and for sure one to chase after.

Back on the maternal side, you’ll notice that there’s a touch of Fullblood way back, that added bonus means a little more milk, and a little more performance and production. 93H his dam looks just like him, same blaze and build, the Freadey females bred back to RF Jaguar have really seemed to be a deadly cross on the first couple years of production on our young cows. This one could have pictured a little better because I feel like he has a lot more substance and barrel in person! I love him for his hair and hair colour, his softness throughout, the stoutness he possesses, and his structure when he gets out on the move, he’s sound, and ready to breed cows! The matching baldy faces and eye appeal are some of the most wanted types of females in the purebred and commercial industries. Take a peek at this guy when you go through the bull pen. HOMO POLLED. Here is one that has that capacity and right condition and holds high breed characteristics. 110L has some extra rib to him and extremely long in his makeup. His Dam is one of the nicest females in the herd when it comes to making bull calves. Tons of milk, tons of spring of rib, and just the definition of Broodiness. 110L is very wide through the center and lower portion of his quarter, and well balanced as you move into his front 1/3. A full brother sold in last year’s sale to Spruceville Cattle Company at Castor, while the rest of his maternal sibs, have been retained in our herd.

HOMO POLLED. Start of February Freadey son that is off of our great Emma Cow. This one’s Grand Dam was our lead off Donor cow for many years, one that raised many high sellers and stamped them all the same with great udders, super well balanced, and desirable to many top cattle breeders in the commercial and purebred world. Pretty much all of these brothers come in that 80 to 90 lbs on every type of female Freadey is mated to. This pedigree consists of the great Super Duty bull, and Red Caesar who took the world by storm many years ago.

HOMO POLLED 1/2 BLOOD. A middle of January calf that is really beginning to make strides in the pen, tons of hair on this character and another super long individual. He is off of a really nice female that unfortunately couldn’t be registered in the Simmental Association. He is good footed, shaped really well, and has a really nice neck extension. A nice small BW of 80 lbs and a respectable weaning weight on the poor grass the bulls were on. They convert feed into meat and muscle and go to work.

HOMO POLLED 1/2 BLOOD. I’m a big fan of this one! Smooth made, a little more refined then others in the sale, but one that I think would be great to make females with! The female behind this one is a real broody red baldy cow that has tons of money-making characteristics. Again, another situation where a hair sample couldn’t be obtained to register the cow, but one that was a real top end female. I think 125L is going to follow in his Sires footsteps and be around for a really long time. These genetics really work, and wean off really nicely every fall.

HOMO POLLED. 116L is a calf that has really good EPD’s! Solid red, and off of a really nice North Creek female. A few years ago, we bought a package of heifers from Barry Saunders, and 5H was the best red female in that bunch. This guy I appreciate for his softness, and over all structure. He has a really large testicle development and is smooth in the shoulders. Whether you have some really nice second calver’s, or need a bull to go breed cows for pasture calving, I think 116L is a great herdbull candidate! This one will pretty up the females, and make really wicked males!

HOMO POLLED. A baldy bull that continues to turn heads, many times we have had people wanting some baldy bulls to add some colour to their cowherd, so this year you have quite a few options to make that happen. Again, another calf off of the best red baldy cow from the North Creek heifers. Tons of hair, lovely top on this one, and really stout and solid. These Freadey calves all come with 80 to 90 lb Birthweights and get up and suck right after they are born. His Dam just had another baldy bull calf the first week of January, identical to this guy.

HETERO POLLED. Interesting colour on this one with his dark black pigment! I really love how this one is coming together. Moderate framed, super soggy, and off a really maternal cow family. His dam just had another nice heifer calf this year in the new year, and if you came to see her, you would enjoy her for her strong milk and udder qualities. The Grandma cow 9D is a herd matron for us, and is still here knocking things out of the park. The Freadey crossed with the Escobar daughters seem to be a ticket to success. Come take a look at this one, he’s unique, and going to be awesome to see him as he matures.

HOMO POLLED. Notice he Birthdate on this one, he’s only a March 6 calf and will be about a week shy of his birthday on sale day. We kept him around cause of his look, swagger, and overall build, thinking possibly that he would make a great two-year-old. He ended up making up time and fits in with the rest of the pen, likely if he was two months older, he very well could be starting the sale. His dam is a really nice female from Perlinger Simmentals who has raised bulls for North Creek Simmentals, and Scott Colony. There is the best proof that this female makes the best calves! Give him a chance, he’s going to be great.

HOMO POLLED. A red Midland calf, what more could you want. Dual purpose, breed him to red or black females, tans or white! I think this calf would be a great use if you need to add a little size to cow with frame, add a little colour, and some length to a cowherd. His mother is a really good female that we picked up from Spring Creek Simmentals a while back, she is a boat! Huge tank female with tons of capacity.

HOMO BLACK, HETERO POLLED. Someone has to lead off the black pen of bulls and I feel 28L likely is the best candidate. I love this guy, super sound, stout made, deep and soggy, and off of one of the best cow families that we had the opportunity of having. His mother is a great young cow that defies a hard-working cow, and she defiantly earns her keep. These NUG Midland calves seem to come all the same and some that we feel will really make an impact in many different herds. Breed this one to any colour of cow and your going to get Black! HOMO BLACK, HETERO POLLED. If you solemnly focus on momma cows when selecting your new Herdbulls, this 10L has one behind him that you will fall in love with. Lovely udder, super stylish and broody, and great mothering ability. A noted sale feature sold in the Checkers Sale last fall to Shayson Simmentals. When I started to clip bulls this fall, this one came through the chute and next thing you know, it was like I was clipping a table top! This guy is THICK!!! He is WIDE!!! and is HAIRY!!!I really like the overall softness, stoutness, and structure that 10L has and think he would add some extra power and jam to his progeny.

HOMO BLACK, HOMO POLLED. We have used this one’s sire, RF Jaguar for several years now. The fact that he calves extremely well on our Red and Black heifers and have some of the best vigour is probably why. His dam is a really nice female who did an outstanding job, the reputation of this one’s cow family is extraordinary being easy keepers, and can withstand any environment they are thrown into. A little extra style and swag is somethings that 3L possesses. Anytime a calf can come off a heifer like this, you are bound to be successful.

HETERO BLACK, HOMO POLLED. Here is our only ET calf in the offering this year! A really good representative for the pen of baldy bulls! 30L wasn’t the most cooperative bull that I have ever pictured so it would be good to come look at him in his flesh! A really outcross pedigree on the maternal side of this one’s pedigree, being off of the great Circle G Red Magic female. His sire, Connected was a high selling bull in Crossroad Farms bull sale that has begun to make a big bang in the Simmental industry now! A pedigree with some of the greats like, Spartacus and Kop Crosby, make for a power packed pedigree. 30L is super long spine, and the hairiest bull in the pen this year. Many great attributes that make this one special.

His dam is a female who throws in an ace in every bull sale it seems like and one who continues to produce at 8 years of age. A maternal sibling was a feature and lead off black bull a few years in our sale. Keep in mind he’s a start of February calf who is really making strides in the bull pen. HOMO BLACK, HETERO POLLED. The bulls here at the end are ones that we fell could really go out and be maternal calving ease, as well as work great on some young females. This 105L calf is no slouch when it comes to growth and having all the important characteristics you need in a bull. He is Top 4% for WWT, Top 2% for YWT, and Top 3% on REA on his EPD’s. If you as myself which black cow family really makes me happy, Ill likely recall the Mila Family. I love these females as much as a person could love a cow. They are baldy females who have the perfect amount of milking ability, are very hardy, and the type of females who will be the matriarchs in a herd when it comes to turning a profit. This Jaguar son will be one to recon with on sale day, and I think it would be an easy choice to slap a check mark on the page when you see him! Approved for Heifers.

33

HOMO BLACK, HOMO POLLED 1/2 BLOOD. Every year we seem to have a few ½ blood bulls in the sale, in reality they likely could be purebreds, but unfortunately just not on paper. This guy’s dam is a great cow that we breed purebred every year because she has the “It” factor at raising calves. 128L is smooth made, long spine, and one that I think would work well in many different aspects. Every calf off of him will be polled and black!

HETERO BLACK, HETERO POLLED. Here is Wilson, an individual who came inside of a female that we purchased from Anchor D in their Pasture Treasure female sale! Mom and Dad needed a holiday after Harvest a couple years ago, I assumed he would come back with a fullblood, but when he saw 216J, he had to have her. I remember the day he was born since he practically fell out of his momma and got up and sucked soon after he was born. These Wilson calves seem to have all the bells and whistles when it comes to calving ease and vigor. We feel that this one will do the same. Approved for Heifers.

EPD TERMS DEFINED BY THE CANADIAN SIMMENTAL ASSOCIATION

CE - CALVING EASE The ease with which a bull’s calves are born to first calf heifers. A first calf heifer is defined as a female calving for the first time at 33 months of age or less. EPDs are reported as the expected difference in unassisted calvings. When comparing calving ease EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a higher percent of unassisted births for calves sired by this bull.

BW - BIRTH WEIGHT Calf weight at birth adjusted to a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average birth weight of a bull’s calves, compared to calves of all other bulls evaluated. When comparing the birth weight EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a heavier average birth weight for calves sired by this bull. WW - WEANING WEIGHT Calf weight taken between 160 and 250 days of age and adjusted to 205 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of an animal’s calves compared to calves of all other animals evaluated. When comparing the weaning weight EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a heavier average weaning weight for calves sired by this bull.

YW - YEARLING WEIGHT Weight taken between 330 and 440 days of age and adjusted to 365 days of age and a mature dam equivalent. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 365-day weight of an animal’s progeny, compared to the progeny of all other animals evaluated. When comparing the yearling weight EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a heavier average yearling weight for calves sired by this bull.

MWW - MATERNAL WEANING WEIGHT The weaning weight of an animal’s daughters’ calves. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds. The EPD value predicts the difference in average 205-day weight of an animal’s daughters’ calves compared to calves from daughters of all other animals evaluated. The evaluation reflects both the maternal ability of an animal’s daughters and the growth potential of their calves. When comparing maternal weaning weight EPDs of two sires, the larger maternal weaning weight EPD indicates heavier weights due to daughters’ ability to produce heavier calves MCE - MATERNAL CALVING EASE The ease with which a sire’s daughters calve as first calf heifers. A first calf heifer is defined as a female calving for the first time at 33 months of age or less. Expected progeny differences are reported as the difference in % unassisted calving’s. When comparing the maternal calving ease EPDs of two sires, the larger EPD indicates a higher percentage of unassisted births for calves born to this sire’s daughters. Maternal Calving Ease = 1⁄2 of the CE EPD + Maternal Calving Ease.

MILK - MATERNAL MILK The maternal ability of an animal’s daughters. Expected progeny performance is reported in pounds of calf weaning weight. The EPD value predicts the difference (due to maternal ability) in average 205-day weight of an animal’s daughters’ calves, compared to calves of daughters of all other evaluated animals. When comparing the maternal milk EPDs of two sires, the larger maternal milk EPD indicates heavier average weaning weights due to the daughters’ greater maternal ability.
