Welcome

Welcome to the Tradition Bull Sale! McKeary Charolais, together with Diamond L Ranch and Fleming Livestock, strive to offer bulls that will go out and work in your cow herd. If you have any questions or have a specific need you want to look for don’t hesitate to contact on of us. For those that are here for the first time, let me introduce ourselves. Ray and Mary Ann, the heart of McKeary Charolais for 36 years. Over the years it has grown and shifted to include Karen and Lynn, and now their families. Karen and I purchased Loewen Charolais cow herd and we were very fortunate to be able to step into an established sale at Bow Slope. Our children Danna, Charlee and Trace are just starting to enter the ‘Charolais World." Danna and Charlee are involved in 4-H and Danna took part in her first CCYA in Weyburn. Danna showed the Grand Champion Heifer at 4-H this year and did very well in all the activities at CCYA. She is hoping to show a cow/calf pair this year. Danna is in grade 4, Charlee grade 1, Trace is 3 and a great chore helper. Both girls are in Tae Kwon Doe. Lynn and Dallas’ children are also realizing their passion for the cattle. Cole showed a heifer last year and is showing a steer this year. We are sure that Hayden and Owen will make sure that steer is quiet. Lynn is an RN and works with home care and Dallas owns and operates OSY Rentals. Cole is in grade 3, Owen in kindergarten and Hayden is 3. Bull shopping season is one of my favourite times of the year. It is time to meet new people, visit with friends and customers, we also get to reflect on our bull battery. Many people find it an unknown season with numerous catalogues, footnotes, epd's and numbers. I could go on and on about what I think you need and why. What I will tell you instead, is what we do, and that is, KEEP IT SIMPLE. We calve all our cows out on pasture and find that calving ease is more important than birth weight when selecting our herd sires. I was once told that "it is easier to calve a 100 lb snake then a 50 lb salt block." Great feet and legs are a must in our environment as our cows must be able to travel long distances for feed and water. The final and most important is temperament, my wife, kids, father in law and mother in law (I do like her) work with these bulls daily, and if I can’t trust them with my family I wont’ sell them to your family. The rest is simple, keep it above average and things will all fall into place. I would like to take a minute to thank all the people in the background that make our sale and cattle life possible. We have a great group of friends and family that have always been there when we need help with chores or to fix a tractor or just to sit with and have a beer and relax. Remember to mark your calendar for February 23, 2020 for our open house at Ray and Mary Anns’. Come for a great supper that the girls prepare and cold beer. See you sale day, March 12th in Brooks.

We’d like to begin by thanking all who stood beside us in 2019; family, friends and our valued customers. Without your assistance and loyalty we wouldn’t be where we are today. A special thank-you to McKeary Charolais and Flemming Livestock Corp. for allowing us to showcase our cattle with theirs. At Diamond L Ranch our philosophy is to produce profitable cattle. Our cows must be moderate framed, have a large rumen capacity, must be able to wean a calf every year and live for many years. If she needs a lot of mechanical intervention, the profits will be lost. We are striving to reduce the need for iron, the capital cost for machinery repairs and fuel quickly eats away at profits. This year we introduced our cows to swath grazing and our spring calving cows will stay on the swaths until they are ready to calve. Our cattle need to work for us and not us for them. On offer for 2020 we have an excellent group of yearlings and an excellent group of two year olds. Our yearlings come off of a small group of cows and heifers we breed to calve in February-March. This group generally includes our embryo cows and any new additions to our herd. Our two year olds are out of our April-May calving cows; these bulls are born on pasture, lightly backgrounded through the winter and then kicked back out on grass to develop. None of these bulls have been previously offered for sale, there are no leftovers here. Within both of these groups there are a great selection of bulls that have power and performance without sacrificing the angus calving ease. We have been working with the nutritionists from Blue Rock Animal Nutrition to feed and raise our bulls in a responsible manner. We raise these bulls to work for you; we want them to be effective and efficient in diverse and challenging environments. Terms: The terms of the sale are cash or cheque payable at par at the sale unless satisfactory credit arrangements have been made previous to the sale. The right of property shall not pass until after settlement is made. All settlements must be made with the clerks of the sale before any cattle will be released. The auctioneer shall have the right to refuse bids from anyone who has a previous record of default in payment or who has not made proper credit clearance to the sale with the owner or Sales Manager. Bidding: Each animal is to be sold to the highest bidder. No bybidding will be permitted. A reasonable price base may be set. Disputes: In case of disputes, bidding will be reopened between the parties involved. If no further bid is made, the buyer will be the person from whom the auctioneer accepted the last bid. The auctioneer’s decision in such matters is final. Purchaser’s Risk: Each animal becomes the risk of the purchaser as soon as sold. Animals will be cared for at the purchaser’s risk for a reasonable length of time. Announcements: Errors discovered in the catalogue will be corrected by announcements from the auction stand at sale time and such corrections will take precedence over the printed matter in the catalogue. Buyers are cautioned to pay close attention to announcements. Certificate of registry: Each animal will carry papers issued by their respective breed association. A certificate of registry duly transferred will be furnished to the buyers for each animal after settlement has been made. Breeders Guarantee, bulls: Should any bull (14) fourteen months of age or over, fail to prove a breeder after being used on cows known to be breeders, the matter shall be reported in writing to the seller within (6) six months following date of purchase or (6) six months after the bull has reached (14) fourteen months of age. The seller will then have the right and privilege of (6) six months to prove the bull a breeder. No guarantee is given that semen collected from the bull will freeze. In no event shall the seller be responsible for more than the

purchase price. The seller is not responsible for damage caused by foreign bodies after the animal has been sold nor for sickness not apparent at sale time. Exception guarantee: In cases where the animal was subjected to hormonal or surgical reproduction techniques after the sale, this guarantee shall be null and void. Settlement: Transportation charges on animals returned to the seller are for account of the purchaser. No incidental expenses such as feed, care, A.I., signing fees, interest, veterinary charges, etc., will be charged by either party when making settlement. If the seller is successful in proving the animal in question to be a breeder, the said animal will be reclaimed by the purchaser at his expense. Should the seller fail to prove the animal a breeder, then the buyer is guaranteed a satisfactory replacement F.O.B. ranch or location of origin or a refund of the actual price. Should a dispute arise over the quality of the replacement animal, the Sale Management will appoint a mediator. Accidents: Although every precaution will be taken to protect the safety and comfort of buyers, neither the sales manager, auctioneer, or sellers assume any responsibility in this matter and disclaim any liability, legal or otherwise, in the event of accident or loss of property. Mail or telephone bids: Bidders unable to attend the sale may phone or mail their bids and instructions to the sale manager, auctioneer, or special representatives. Bids must be received in sufficient time prior to the sale. Rights and obligatations: The above terms and conditions of the sale shall continue a contract between the buyer and the seller and be equally binding to both. Resale of animals following purchase in this sale shall constitute a separate transaction which is not covered by the terms and conditions of this sale. It is clearly understood that Bow Slope Shipping is acting only as a medium between the buyer and seller and is not in any way responsible for any failure on the party to live up to his/her obligations.
