Scott County Board Proceedings BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS COUNTY OF SCOTT JULY 15, 2014 (1) The Board of Commissioners, in and for the County of Scott, Minnesota, met in the Courthouse Board Room in the City of Shakopee, Minnesota, and convened at 9:00 a.m., with the following members present: Commissioner Wolf, presiding, Commissioner Wagner, Commissioner Menden, Commissioner Marschall, and Commissioner Ulrich. (2) Amendments to the Agenda Chair Wolf announced the addition of an agenda item to change the trigger elevation of O’Dowd Lake for slow no-wake restrictions. Agenda item 5.2 is amended to appoint Commissioner Wolf to canvass elections results for the 2014 primary and general elections instead of Commissioner Menden. The meeting time was also changed from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. (3) On a motion by Commissioner Ulrich, seconded by Commissioner Marschall, the Minutes of July 1, 2014 were approved. (4) Recognition of Interested Citizens: Thom Boncher, Jordan, questioned why only one person responded to the email he sent to eight individuals. Mr. Boncher also asked whether any Commissioners grow pumpkins on the Hentges property. Commissioner Wagner noted that two years ago he sublet four acres from the farmer who was farming the Hentges property. (5) Consent Agenda: On a motion by Commissioner Ulrich, seconded by Commissioner Menden, the following actions were approved unanimously. Approve the Application and Permit for a Temporary On-Sale Liquor License for the Parish of St. Joachim and Anne for an event to be held at the Marystown parish grounds on Sunday, August 17, 2014. B. Jordan School Board Pondering New Animalsin-School Policy The Jordan School District is considering a policy that will manage and control the presence of animals in school buildings. The school board will consider the final reading of a new policy intended to manage the presence of animals in school buildings as a benefit to education. The building principal will have the final say on written requests for having animals within a building, the Jordan Independent recently reported. Laurie Schmidt, a special education teacher who works with autistic students, offered the school board first-hand knowledge of how animals can benefit the education of some children. But that benefit has to be weighed against children and adults with allergies to animals or are frightened by animals, said Jordan Schools Superintendent Matt Helgerson. The point of the policy, he said, is to manage animals in schools and not eliminate them.
