This project is driven by students from 5 different countries: Poland, Croatia, Portugal, Latvia and Catalonia. It consists of knowing how a healthy breakfast can affect our academic results. First of all students joined the project and then teachers selected the ones that will take part of it. Our project

Games

The slogan that we have choose are: healthier breakfast, wiser minds (esmorzar més sa, ments més despertes). «Bre» comes from breakfast, and «Wise» from wiser.

The schools that participate in the project are: -Celestí Bellera (Catalunya) -Manuel Cargaleiro (Portugal) -Kozala (Croàcia) -Szkola Podstawowa nr 3 (Sl·upsku) -Pelecu primary school (Latvia)

We prepare workshops, breakfasts and other activities to promote healthy breakfasts in the different countries. Every student will do a trip to a different country during this project, where they’re going to stay in another student’s house.

3rd healthy breakfast On Friday we continued with the workshops we started on Monday and we presented them to everyone, colleagues and teachers. Unfortunately, at 10 AM our Croatian friends had to leave to take the plane and we said goodbye to them very sadly. We also had a healthy breakfast all together and later we did some sporting activities like zumba or the game of the headscarf (but with fruits). On Saturday the corresponding Poles, Latvians and Portuguese packed their bags to leave. With tears in our eyes we said goodbye. It was a very intense week, full of learning, experiences and new relationships that we hope they will last a long time.

Most Poles consider themselves to be healthy eaters, but few take up special diets and fried meat is still the main dish on many Polish tables, as show the results of CEBOS report. Despite warnings of physicians and media campaign, Polish eating habits have not undergone considerable changes during last fifteen years. Polish breakfast is so good. Polish people usually eat eggs for example scrambled eggs or soft and hard boiled eggs. Popular in Poland are sausages with ketchup or Polish horseradish. People in Poland very often eat sandwiches with cheese, ham, tomatoes or with honey or Nutella. Many people like eating cereal or the healthier version - muesli in yogurt. The 7th October the students from Poland, Catalonia, Latvia, Portugal and Croatia made a healthy breakfast. It was our third breakfast of the Brewise project. Our mission with this breakfast was again to make the students of the communities more aware of the need to eat healthily. We prepared a dessert called coffin with corn poppy seeds and blueberries in Polish colors; we made it with milk, hooney, semolina and coconut flour. To colour the dessert we made fruit juices like beetroot juice, amarena juice, cocoa powder to darken the nuances of red for some of the countries.

THE EXPERIENCE: In Catalonia the experience was very funny but we had some problems with the fire, because we used some old portable stoves and fire started going out; in spite of this, the experience was good.

Workshops

Week in Catalonia

After getting to know the high school we did some workshops together: YouTube videos, blog activities, our magazine and a few small debates. In this project, there are 5 countries participating. In this 5 countries we made some different workshops. Our workshops called “Memory & organs” and “Sugar and the drinks”. Croatia presented workshops in the kindergartens (they presented two times the workshop of sugar in drinks and two times of memory & organs). They presented the workshop sugar and drinks to 8 years old students. Presentation was lasted about 20 minutes. I First we showed and explained them what workshop is about. Then we tested their knowledge through quiz and memory. Students collected new knowledge. Catalonia presented workshops to 12 years old students and 15 years old students. They presented the workshop of memory & organs to 4

some classes of primary school and then the workshop of sugar and the drinks to the same classes. Then they did the same to the 15 years old students. They were 2 hours (4 presentations) presenting the two workshops at the same time but in different classes. They were rotating the two workshops and they did the two workshops. Latvia made 5 workshops. They did the questions of healthy body, questions of healthy breakfast, sports workshops and a building of a castle. Poland had 1 workshop about vegetables, humus, fruits, … We hope that they will have much more workshops in the future. Portugal had only a healthy breakfast but we hope that they will do some workshops in the future too.

For lunch we went to a restaurant in the center of the city and then we went to meet the mayor, with who we had the chance to talk. At the end of the day, we did an activity to get to know the city with our correspondents. On Tuesday, 4th grade of Secondary School (ESO) students and our colleagues went to the Fundació Alícia, where we cooked and they taught us different recipes and breakfasts. We learnt about food thanks to these activities. On Wednesday and Thursday only the 3rd grade of Secondary School (ESO) students did some activities because the 4th grade of Secondary School (ESO) students had the “Competències Bàsiques” (Compulsory public exams). On Wednesday they visited the Güell Park and the Sagrada Familia and they spent the day in Barcelona, and on Thursday they went to the Palamós Fisheries Museum and visited the city of Girona. That night we had a dinner all together where there was a lot of food and music. We had a great time, we got to know our correspondents a little more and we received our diplomas. 13

Fundació Alícia Visit

12

Last Monday, November 25th was a very important day for the Celestí Bellera high shcool: our group of students promoting the Brewise project made an excursion to the Alicia Foundation, an institution that aims to generate awareness by providing tools and scientific knowledge in the culinary fields. In this excursion our students prepared expositions that they had been working on for a whole month. These presentations were works plans about how we could prove whether the hypothesis: "healthy breakfast helps students in their school performance" is true or false. We took a bus at 8am from our high school that took us to the Fundació Alícia, where we arrived at around 9 a.m.

Once there, we spent a while rehearsing our expositions while another group of students set up a live stream that was broadcast on our twitter. Later, two nutritionist scientists who worked at the Fundació Alícia came to listen to our proposals and made suggestions on how to improve our plans. During this day, 7 different groups exposed. When we had done three of the seven expositions, we had a break to have breakfast. During this break, one of our colleagues, took part in a live interview with Fabiola Juárez, one of the two scientists.

Week in Portugal 14th October We went to the high school Manuel Cargaleiro. The teachers of all the countries introduced themselves and then the students did some ice-breaker activities. After that, the students showed us the school and then we went to a town called Seixal. We did water activities and we visited the town. At 7 p.m we had dinner and some of us danced. 15th October Tuesday 15th was a cultural day starting with a visit to the gothic-style Monastery of the Jerónimos in Belém (in the outskirts of Lisbon) that dates back to 16th century. Then we had lunch and many of us could try and taste famous pastry “pastéis de nata”. In the afternoon we went sightseeing in the city while doing a photo rally in mixed groups that you have in our Instagram @brewiswe2018 16th October We went to “el Parque Da Paz” in Almada to do some sport. There were two groups: one of them walked around the park and the other did yoga and pilates. Then the groups exchanged activities. We had lunch in a shopping centre. In the afternoon we visited the National Sanctuary of Christ the King. The sculpture is 28 meters high and it’s situated by the edge of the river Tajo. It opens the arms to receive the visitors and it’s the best lookout of Lisbon.

Week in Portugal 17th October On Thursday 17th we discovered some more aspects of the local gastronomy. We went to the central market of the county in Setúbal which was plenty of stalls packed with very fresh products, and there outstood the sea products. We discovered some species of fish that were new for us and we also learned new Portuguese words. We could also compare prices and got surprised about the lower prices of fruit and vegetables. Afterwards we went to a restaurant where the chef demonstrated how to prepare a starter, a main course and a dessert with the food that we bought at the market; all of them very healthy and made with fish. 18th October We went to the school and we did two activities. One of the activities was creating a blog related with the healthy breakfast. The students were divided in 6 groups and had to work with one of the following topics: ● Importance of breakfast. ● What not to eat for breakfast. ● Five foodstuffs to eat for breakfast. ● Creative breakfast. ● Quick breakfast recipe. ● My perfect breakfast. The other activity was called “Food around Europe”. It was a board game created by the Portuguese students, it consisted of answering questions about food around Europe. The team who had more correct answers won. Then some of us went to the shopping centre and had lunch all together.

Multilingual Dictionary The channel that changes the way we eat The Erasmus+ project has been modernized by creating a youtube channel. In this channel called Erasmus 2018 Brewise we can find several videos that can help change our eating habits. The channel has fourteen videos that have been made by the five different countries that are in the project and tell us about different types of food and also about the easy and fast ways of preparing healthy breakfast recipes. The videos are very easy to understand because they are neither too short nor too long so they end up being interesting. During the week that the meeting point was in Catalonia, different activities were carried out. One of them was the recording of games and leisure activities gymkhana-like related to food. For example, one of the funniest video is The apple and the thread. This game consists to tie an apple to a thread. Without touching the apple, with the hands tied, it must be bitten. The one that finishes the apple with more speed wins. The following video is about a race and eggs. Two people, from two different teams, put a spoon in their mouth and over the spoon an egg. The two players run with the spoons in their mouths and the eggs on them. If an egg falls to the ground the player loses. Follow the channel for more updates and enjoy it!

The Multilingual Dictionary was a task performed by some students from every country in BreWise. It consists of using the letters of the latin alphabet to write words about healthy breakfasts. First, they used a letter (for example V) and then they wrote a word in English (for example variety). Using that word, every country wrote the same word in their own language. In English, they gave a little explanation about the meaning of the word and then they complemented it with the benefits of that word. In each letter, they also put a picture to represent the word and a proverb about the word. This is a very interesting project and you can find this Multilingual Dictionary in the Brewise Blog. And we can find the Brewise Blog in all the school websites.
