Below the Surface is a non-profit organization dedicated to the exploration of and education about the issues surrounding water. Riverview was inspired by Google’s Streetview, and is creating a platform to interact with, visualize and explore rivers throughout the world.
Environmentalism 2.0
Below the Surface is creating 360° panoramic maps of the world’s streams, rivers and coastline with a 360° panoramic video camera, and a mobile app for iPhone and Android. This project will make our waterways as familiar as our neighborhoods all with the ease of access we enjoy from Google’s Streetview. Riverview is designed to bring awareness to the delicate balance of rivers, the culture and lifestyle along their banks, educate people on their passage and provide ways to care for them.

The Riverview Project is a dynamic, crowd sourced and social media enabled mapping project to: - Teach geography, biology, outdoor education, environmental studies and history - Explore and plan fishing and paddling trips online - Visualize river cleanup and restoration efforts - Monitor and enforce water quality laws with non-profits and government agencies - Share paddling trips and follow friends’ trips
