Northern Fishermen Cooperative Limited

Northern Fishermen Cooperative Society Ltd. was established 59 years ago in 1960. Thirty-six (36) fishermen from Caye Caulker came together and founded the first fishing cooperative in Belize, under the supervision of the then Cooperatives Registrar, Henry C. Usher. The Cooperative was a pioneer in deep-sea fishing, shrimp trawling and whole fish production, particularly demersals such as: grouper and snapper, stone crabs, live lobsters and almost any marine product that the fishermen could harvest for which there were commercial possibilities. Its greatest assets though are its members whom over the years has been given the means by their own organization, the Cooperative, towards sustainable production which has improved and increased their personal assets, ultimately being beneficial to and for the Cooperative.
