A little penguin with a big dream
Errol, The story of... ...a penguin who’s determination knows no bounds. Our little penguin has one desire; the desire to fly and nothing is going to dampen his dreams. We follow our little adventurer as he attempts flight, with every set back he grows and adapts to the challenge. After months of driven but failed attempts the story culminates to one key moment. The now or never attempt, where he’ll put himself on the line to achieve flight. Errol can’t fly, but maybe his dream isn’t as impossible as it would seem.
Meet Errol, The Young Adélie Penguin... He’s bright and creative with a determination bordering on obsession. Since his earliest memory of swooping birds, he’s dreamt of being able to soar the skies with his own little wings. As he’s still a child he’s yet to learn about hunting and providing food- Ward, his father, is his source of fish. This allows Errol to pursue his flighty aspirations freely while being completely oblivious to what all the other penguins in his Waddle are up to. He’s a clever little guy, though; he understands that every time an attempt fails there's a reason, he just can’t pinpoint it. Which is shown with how he adapts his environment as he goes.
Attempted flight is exhausting work, especially when you aren’t meant to do it. As a result between attempts he mostly eats and sleeps.
After months of trying Errol still hasn’t questioned if he’s even meant to fly. He’s adamant he can. Cutting his way through the snow, motivated by pure belief he’s grown and changed with the landscape. Though Errol’s appearance has changed, his drive hasn’t; even when he’s sleeping his mind is soaring. After every failed attempt he looks to the sky never dejected or saddened, instead more determined than he was before.
He know’s he’s meant to fly because like this he can mirror the sheathbills that inspire him...
This is Ward, Errol’s Father... He’s stalwart, proud and thoughtful. Clearly Errol got his brains from somewhere. Despite Ward’s outward appearance, he’s clearly quite the sensitive bird shown by the fact that he never tries to deter his little chick from his dream. Broad and confident, Ward is a guardian not only for Errol but the rest of the Waddle, a born leader.
Ward is a proud father, though regularly confused and sometimes dismayed by his sons antics. He’s intelligent enough to see that it’s just a phase and the best way to handle it is to let Errol learn himself.
The Sheathbills The Sheathbills are gulls native to the area of the Antarctic that Ward and Errol call home. They act as the source of Errol’s inspiration within the story. Serving as his earliest memory and the focus of his flight attempts. Though not significant from a individual character perspective, their purpose is integral to the story we’re telling in order to show the characters motivatons.

Perhaps Errol can’t fly through the air but the agility and grace in which he can move in water allow him to fly through the sea...
