A MESSAGE FROM THE BASEBALL

RAVENS HEAD COACH

The coaches and players are excited for the upcoming 2020 season. There are many new faces with the coaching staff and players and we are proud to adorn the navy and teal. Personally, I am looking forward to building upon the strong tradition of Auburn Riverside Baseball. I am blessed to have a great baseball staff to help us on this journey. My assistants are great baseball guys, but also great builders of young men. We are also beneficiaries of great senior leadership on the club. Seniors Cade Foster and Gio Parascondola are the vocal leaders and captains of the team, helping create an excellent baseball culture. The team has a good mix of solid upper classmen and an up and coming freshman and sophomore group. Brett Harvey and Drew Berkely will be anchoring a pitching staff that will need many different arms getting the 21 outs needed to close out games. Gio Parascondola , Jack Looney, Jericho Dela Cruz, Cade Foster and Cade Navilio will be some of the bats needed to produce for the offense. However, with so many new faces and open competition, various players on the roster could have great years. One of our foundational principles is to take care of the process and the results will take care of itself. Play with a “Whole heart, Clear mind, Strong will and Great Passion.” We believe we have the perfect group to implement these principles and maximize our potential. Looking forward to seeing you at the ballpark! Go Ravens!

A MESSAGE FROM THE SOFTBALL

RAVENS HEAD COACH

Welcome to another exciting season for the Raven Fastpitch Program. I am incredibly excited to begin my eighth season as Head Coach of this terrific program. Our team covenant for the 2020 season is as follows: D.T.P.

BE DEPENDABLE • BE TENACIOUS • BE POSITIVE It is a constant reminder to players to conduct themselves with class and be the best teammate that you can be. An inherent understanding is that when you learn to be a great teammate and representative of your school, you carry the same traits on into adult life. What I am most proud of though is how we have been able to really grow our program over these last seven years. We have had tremendous success with our June “Summer Crew” Program, which allows future Ravens that are in middle school the opportunity to practice alongside our players. Additionally, our annual youth camps have reached over 100 young girls and helped to improve the skills of these girls and to promote our program. It is truly inspirational to see former youth camp campers and Summer Crew participants now being a part of our high school program. In our program, it is all about the girls. Everything that we do revolves around improving the skills and strength of our girls, while treating them with respect and teaching life lessons through our sport. I want to make sure to devote a paragraph to give thanks for the incredible support that we receive from our parents. I have always believed that parents are an essential function of the triad of what makes a successful program, along with players and coaches. Whether it be assisting at team functions, or fixing (and sometimes even buying!) things that our girls need to be successful of enjoy their experience even more, they do it. I believe that playing a team sport provides more “learning moments” than any other venue for a young person. The necessary life skills of always improving, handling adversity, respecting others, collaboration and realizing your goals and dreams are things that these young student-athletes will take with them for the rest of their lives. Thank you for attending tonight’s game. We hope that no matter which team you are rooting for, you enjoy the spirit of competition exemplified by these ladies and appreciate how much time and effort they have put in to make us all proud of them.

Bryce Strand Varsity Head Coach

C O A C H I N G S TA F F

2020 AUBURN RIVERSIDE SOFTBALL

Bryce Strand >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Head Coach Bryce Strand is in his 8th year as Head Coach of the Raven Fastpitch Program. In his first seven years the team has seen its record improve every year. From two wins in year one to 11 wins and a district tournament appearance in year four to back to back 4A State Tournament trips in years five and six, including a 7th place finish in 2018. The Ravens have made the district tournament in each of the last four seasons, and have won multiple games there every season. He was voted 3A SPSL Coach of the Year in 2016. Prior to his coaching tenure in this program, he coached football and baseball at Auburn High School in the 2001-2002 school year. He then coached football for ten years and baseball for eleven years at Auburn Riverside, where he coached in the 4A State Baseball Tournament in 2012. Coach Strand teaches Spanish and Social Studies at Auburn Riverside. He thoroughly enjoys spending time with his wonderfully supportive wife Dena and their daughter Riley (7) and son Austin (4).

Sarah Donaghue >> JUNIOR VARSITY/C TEAM HEAD COACH Sarah Donaghue is in her first-year as JV Head Coach for the Raven Fastpitch program. She has coached extensively, including two years as Head Coach at Roosevelt High School in Seattle and four seasons as a Head Coach for Select ( which included Acers, Seattle Fastpitch Club and Synergy). She is very eager to be joining our program to develop our JV players and continue to help with the growth of the program. On her free time she enjoys going camping and hiking with her 2 dogs. She also volunteers her time as a car transporter for animals trying to get to their forever homes or rescues. She resides in Tacoma with her boyfriend and her bonus son whom she adores as her own.

Bailey Gordon >> STRENGTH & CONDITIONING AND CATCHERS COACH Bailey Gordon (formerly Bailey Stenson) is our new Strength Coach and a former Auburn High School softball player who went on to play for the University of Washington Huskies for four years. During her time as an outfielder for the Dawgs, she was a two-time all PAC-10 outfielder, PAC-10 Champion, and 2009 National Champion. Bailey recently moved back to Auburn, with her husband and 7 month old twin baby girls. She is a full time mom, photographer, podcaster/blogger, and makes handmade gifts that she sells on the side. Before becoming a full-time work from home mom, Bailey worked for Volt Athletics for 5 years, she was one of the first employees for the company and has worked with thousands of teams and athletes around the world with their strength training. She has also competed in powerlifting where she holds the Washington/Oregon state records in the squat, deadlift, and bench+deadlift (at least she thinks she still does!). When she isn’t raising tiny humans, she can be found cheering on her husband and his professional rugby team, the Seattle Seawolves. She is excited to be a part of the team and looks forward to helping motivate and inspire the team!

Matt Muxen >> ASSISTANT COACH Coach Muxen is entering his eighth year in the Raven Fastpitch Program. This is his seventh year working on the Varsity staff, after spending his first as the very successful head coach of the JV program. He is in charge of the program’s outfielders. Coach Muxen brings a wealth of coaching experience to the program. He coached football at ARHS for ten years, where he was the Defensive Backs Coach, and has been the Head Wrestling and Baseball coach at Olympic Middle School, where he has taught PE for over 20 years. In addition to teaching there, he is in his 7th year as Director of Athletics at OMS. In addition to coaching with the Ravens, he currently is coaching with the WA Ladyhawks 14u Abraham team. He is married to wife Ashlea and their two daughters are in the Raven Fastpitch Program, Madison (Sr.) and Aubree (Fr.)

Jim Lonsbery >> ASSISTANT COACH This is Coach Lonsbery’s third year in the Raven Fastpitch Program. He will serve as the program’s pitching coach this season. Before coaching with the Auburn Riverside staff he has spent numerous years in high school as high-level club softball. Jim was a member of the Anderton 18U Gold coaching staff that finished 7th at ASA Nationals in 2014.
