HEAD COACH On behalf of Beech Grove Sr. High School, I would like to welcome you all to the 2020 Hornets baseball season. Our staff has been working very hard during this off season to create a hard-working environment of excitement and commitment among our student-athletes, and we have been grateful for the amount of buy-in that these young men are showing thus far. Our mission during this transition year is to recast the image of Beech Grove Baseball by creating a culture and program that not only produces quality players on the field, but respectable young men in their communities.

To this point, we have had continuous conversation about commitment, and our motto being “Turn the Page”. Figuratively and literally, one will never reach the end of a book unless they turn the page. With that being said, we have a focus every day and every practice of turning a new page so we can continue to take steps forward to becoming a championship program. To our family, friends, parents, administration, and all other supporters of Beech Grove Baseball, we want to thank you for your continued support. I personally look forward to seeing you all at our events cheering on our Hornets!

Jake Wickliff Jake Wickliff >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Coach Wickliff is entering into his first year as a varsity head coach, as well as his 2nd year teaching in BGCS as the 7th /8th grade weight training teacher at Beech Grove Middle School. Prior to accepting the position at BGHS as head coach, Coach Wickliff coached baseball at the high school level since 2013 as a JV assistant coach for one season, and two seasons as varsity assistant at Franklin Central High School, and as a varsity assistant at Perry Meridian High School. Outside of high school baseball, Coach is also entering into his 7th season as a head coach for summer baseball where he has led several teams from the ages of 14u through 17u. He currently serves as the 13u-18u Director of Baseball Operations for Baseball Academics Midwest (BAM), head coach for the BAM 15u Signature team, as well as one of the lead defensive and hitting instructors for the organization. Outside of the lines, Coach Wickliff enjoys his family time at home with his wife Bridget, and his two dogs, Snowy and Crystal. He also enjoys golfing, game nights, bonfires, and spending time with friends, family, and colleagues. Ben Walters

HEAD COACH On behalf of the Beech Grove High School Softball staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2020 Softball Season. It is crazy that we are in 2020 already. We kept our same staff members from last season, minus Coach Ferrell as he went on to be the assistant softball coach at the University of Indianapolis. We have the majority of players returning with some fresh faces added looking forward to building from previous seasons and creating new memories. We are focusing on our team chemistry and our fight within this year. There is only a varsity team representing Beech Grove High School Softball, but we are optimistic about our athletes and upcoming season. It is our goal to make everyone associated with Beech Grove Hornet Softball proud not only of our accomplishments on the field, but also of what we accomplish in the classroom and in our community. We enjoy coaching the game of softball, but we also enjoy teaching life lessons to our players. This of course includes assisting them in becoming better all around individuals and preparing them for after high school whatever may come their way. We are constantly looking for ways to better the softball program. This year we are switching our practice weeks over Spring Break, practicing and playing the second week of spring break, striving to build our players mental toughness and competitiveness as the season begins the following week. We are hoping switching the weeks of play over spring break will better prepare our athletes. As always we play a strong schedule, every game being a fight, and are included in a never giving in Indiana Crossroads Conference. We hope to see you at some games this season, whether they are home or away, supporting your lady hornets as we will work to make you proud. To those who have supported us in the past and to those who are supporting us now, to our sponsors, our community, our administration, our families and friends, and most of all, the parents, we say THANK YOU! Kacy Kestner >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Coach Kestner graduated from Decatur Central High School in 2006 and went on to play softball collegiately at Indiana State University for 4 years graduating in 2010. She then decided to pursue her masters degree and became a graduate assistant with the University of Indianapolis softball team during the 2011 spring and fall seasons. Kestner stated that she learned a lot from the coaching staff at UINDY and that they are some of the best coaches around. They still remain close friends to this day. While pursuing her masters degree she got her first teaching job at Beech Grove Middle as a Special Educator and immediately began coaching the 2012 spring season. Kestner coached the JV team for two seasons and then moved up to coach the varsity team. Kestner added Dean Widmann and Taylor Johnson to her varsity coaching staff in 2019 and they will remain with her for the 2020 season. Dean Widman

HEAD COACH The Beech Grove High School Golf team would like to welcome you to the 2020 Golf Season. Coach Baldwin and players are very excited about this season and are looking forward to building on the foundation and traditions set by those who have come before us. G I R L S T E NNI S 2020 COACHING STAFF >>A MESSAGE FROM THE GIRLS TENNIS

HEAD COACH On behalf of the Beech Grove High School Girls Tennis staff, we would like to welcome you to the 2020 Girls Tennis season. The coaching staff is eager for the season to begin and the players seem just as eager as well! Last season was a building season for the girls tennis team and we hope to continue building on our foundational techniques as well as be a competitive team this spring. Our schedule this year has changed quite a bit compared to past years and we are eager to compete with some new teams as well as build mental toughness and endurance against some tough teams who we have encountered previously. In years past, the members of the girls tennis team have done a tremendous job representing the tennis program not only on the court, but in the classroom and community as well. We have no doubt that the team this year will continue to do so and we are excited to help coach and mentor these young ladies into individuals who are more prepared for life after high school. As we begin our season, we want to thank everyone for the support they have provided the tennis program in years past and present. Us coaches, as well as the athletes, always love seeing fellow teachers, classmates, administration, and of course, family members, cheering us on at our tennis matches and we appreciate your support to the fullest!

Katie Taft & Brian Carter Katie Taft >> HEAD COACH Coach Taft attended Hanover Central High School in Cedar Lake, Indiana where she played tennis all four years. She graduated from high school in 2008 and then went on to attend college at the University of Indianapolis from 2008 to 2012. She began teaching at Beech Grove in January 2013 and helped coach the middle school tennis teams in the fall of 2014. Her first season as the head girls varsity coach was in the spring of 2015. This is going to be her sixth season as head coach of the girls tennis teams with Coach Carter as her assistant, who has many years of coaching already under his belt and has been extremely helpful instilling technique, form, and endurance into the players. Some fun facts about Coach Taft is that she is married to the head track coach, Jake Taft. She adores their little dog, Charlie, who likes to make appearances at tennis matches from time to time. When she is not coaching or teaching, she enjoys traveling, doing crossword puzzles, cooking, and getting together with her friends for brunch on the weekends. Together, we would like to create a program that instills our core values through the sport of track & field. We would like to introduce you to our core values. It is known as the FREAK mentality:

F - FINISH ON EMPTY R - RELENTLESS EFFORT E - EMBRACE COMPETITION A - ALWAYS ACCOUNTABLE K - KNOWN FOR DISCIPLINE With your support, we would like to utilize our program as a proving ground for students to cultivate these values that will help them later in life. Before they are allowed to compete, each athlete must make the commitment to restate our core values, from memory, in front of the entire team. As a team, we would like to thank those of you who supported and those who continue to support our program. We hope to continue the Beech Grove Track and Field tradition, and write a few chapters of our own in the process. Jake Taft >> HEAD COACH/SPRINTS Coach Jake Taft is entering his second season as the Head Girls & Boys Track & Field Coach at Beech Grove High School. Previously, he served as the Head Girls & Boys Track Coach at Indian Creek High School. Currently, Coach Taft is a member of the Social Studies Department at BGHS. Coach Taft is a graduate of Lutheran High School where he participated in football, basketball, and baseball. He graduated from IUPUI in 2015 with a degree in U.S. History. In the fall, you can find Coach Taft on the football field where he has served as an assistant at three different high schools: Lutheran, Indian Creek, and Beech Grove. He is married to the love of his life, Katie, who is also a teacher at BGHS. Presently, he and Katie reside in Franklin Township with their dog, Charlie. Sara Lauerman
