WELCOME

TO THE 2020 CAVALIERS BASEBALL SEASON Welcome to the 2020 Baseball season. Our baseball program is one of the top teams in the state of Oregon and I am looking forward to the start of the season. The athletes and coaching staff have spent countless hours working to get stronger, to become better leaders. The parents of Clackamas baseball players also have been working hard. If you have never attended the Crab Feed or helped with another baseball fundraiser then you are missing out. The Crab Feed is a great fundraiser and supports both the high school and youth baseball programs. We appreciate all the support that you give not just to the baseball team, but to the whole athletic program. Please remember to support our student-athletes as they work to do their best in the classroom. Our overall sports programs at Clackamas finished the 2018-19 school year ranked 7th in the Oregonian Cup. This is the competition recognizing athletics, activities, academics, and sportsmanship. Also, good sportsmanship is expected on the field and in the grandstands. We ask that you respect the players, coaches, and officials every game.

A MESSAGE FROM THE

HEAD COACH Dear Clackamas baseball family: It is baseball season again and we couldn’t be more excited about it here at Clackamas High! We are thrilled you have come out to join us today and to help support the team. We are truly blessed to be in a community that is so supportive of our baseball team. Thanks a ton for all the support! Our team is coming off of another very successful season after winning our fifth Mt. Hood Conference title in a row and fourth outright. The squad also advanced to the state semifinals for the third year in a row. Clackamas has advanced to the state semifinals or better an unprecedented 7 of the past 12 seasons. In that time frame our varsity team has accumulated an overall record of 274-88. That is a .756 winning percentage in the past 12 years! This is a pretty remarkable feat and something for not only this program and school to be proud of, but the entire community!

The bar has been set high for Cavalier Baseball, but this year’s team has been working extremely hard to prepare for this season. We are ready to continue our tradition of excellence on the baseball diamond! Clackamas Baseball has established itself as one of the top baseball programs in the state of Oregon and we plan to keep striving to be on top. I will be starting my 24th year as the head varsity baseball coach at Clackamas High and I am extremely proud of the things our coaching staff and players have accomplished in that time period. Here is a quick rundown of some of our accomplishments in the past 23 years… 16 State Playoff Appearances: 2002, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018 7 League Titles: 2006, 2013, 2014, 2016, 2017, 2018

8 Quarterfinals: 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2018 7 Semifinals: 2008, 2010, 2013, 2015, 2017, 2018 5 State Title Games: 2008, 2010, 2013, 2017, 2018 3 State Titles: 2008, 2010, 2017 4 Oregon Players of the Year: Nick Struck (‘08), Ben Wetzler (‘10), Austin Kelly (‘13), Elliott Cary (‘14) Along with all of these accomplishments we have sent 49 players on to play college baseball (see the Cavs in College sheet in this media guide) among those 12 have gone on to play Division I baseball and two to the professional ranks. We have had some great players, great coaches, and great accomplishments over the years. Equal to the things we have done on the field is the support we get from this amazing community! I truly believe that Clackamas Baseball has the best fan and booster support in the entire state of Oregon. Over the course of my time at Clackamas, I have been amazed with what our community has done to support our teams. As you can see by looking around at the baseball complex our boosters and community have helped to build one of the top baseball facilities in all of Oregon.

Perhaps what I am most proud of in the Clackamas Baseball program is the quality of players, coaches, parents, and fans we have. We have pushed hard to do things the right way and be first class in everything we do. I am very proud of the reputation we have built as a first class organization. Let’s continue to keep striving for excellence and most importantly, keep striving to make today our best day! Yours in baseball,

John Arntson John Arntson Clackamas High School Head Baseball Coach
