A MESSAGE FROM THE BASEBALL

HEAD COACH Varsity: The TJ Baseball Family is ready to start up the 2020 season and are excited to see what we can do. Coming off a Regional Championship from last year and losing in the State Semi-Finals to eventaul State Champions JM Bennet 3-2, we are looking forward to finishing on top this year. With only losing 3 seniors from last year the Patriots return a lot of veteran players and expect our new guys to step up and fill the roles needed. Playing in a very competetive CMC confrence, we look forward to the challenge of possibly playing in the CMC Championship Game for the 1st time ever. We want to thank the parents and all those who help support the TJ Baseball community as we start our season. Junior Varsity: With a good mix of returning players and newcomers, TJ looks to have another strong season. Finishing last season at 7-4, TJ looks to build upon what they did last year. Depth at every position is the strength of this team. TJ can win in a variety of ways ranging from offense to pitching.

Billy Gross

Head Coach Billy Gross >> VARSITY HEAD COACH I will be entering my 7th season leading the Patriots Baseball Team. In the previous 6 seasons, the Patriots have won 3 Regional Championships, and the 2018 State Championship. I have had the privilege of assisting numerous Student-Athletes in continuing their academic and athletic careers as they went on to play in college. More importantly, I enjoy seeing how our players mature throughout the 4 years in our program and become young men who are ready to take on the challenges life present them in the years to come. I hope you all enjoy the 2020 season as we look to continue to build a program that people want to be a part of.

Matt Myers >> JV COACH - 4th season as JV coach. - Played 4 years at Stevenson University as a 2B and Pitcher. -Played 4 years of Varsity baseball at GTJHS

Danny Cleveland >> VARSITY COACH Danny Cleveland is starting his second year as TJ's boys Lacrosse Head Coach. Coach Cleveland is hoping to continue to grow the program, as well as player numbers after fielding their first JV Team in four seasons last year. Coach Cleveland will continue to harp on fundamentals and development as well as a character first culture. His favorite saying about lacrosse is, "I have never seen a lacrosse team lose a game when they could pass and catch better than their opponent."

Brandon Nasuti >> VARSITY COACH This will be Coach Nasuti’s second year coaching in the Thomas Johnson Lacrosse program. Coach Nasuti is a TJ graduate of 2011 and played lacrosse, football and swam for TJ. He earned a bachelor’s degree from Frostburg State University and is currently pursuing his masters degree from Mount St. Mary’s University. He is looking forward to another successful year of coaching and excited to help develop these young athletes into great players and even better men.

2020 COACHING STAFF & SCHEDULE

Samuel Shipley >> GIRLS OUTDOOR COACH I am a Slippery Rock University Exercise Science graduate and personal trainer at SoldierFit, Frederick. This is my third year coaching the Track and Field team. We have landed 4th in the region for both men's and women's teams, and we are definitely looking for more improvement. My specialties lie in weight training for peak performance and the jumps, especially pole vault. I plan to teach basics and advanced lifting techniques, apply my studies to our training and find what you can do best for the team. Outdoor has many positions to fill and I am eager to see more athletes come out this season. All of our student-athletes athletes will have every opportunity to prove their abilities, so come ready to run, jump and throw!

Simone Brown >> GIRLS OUTDOOR COACH Ms. Simone Brown is currently pursuing a master’s degree in School Psychology at Howard University. Prior to attending Howard, she obtained her Bachelors in Psychology at Oakwood University, where she played collegiate basketball for four years. Ms. Brown is excited to return to her true passion – Track & Field. During her sophomore through senior years at Lakewood High School in Lakewood, Ohio, Ms. Brown participated in the open 200m and 400m, 4x100m, 4x200m, and her favorite – the 4x400m relay. As a team captain and scholarathlete, Ms. Brown competed at the district and regional levels. She is looking forward to her first season being a part of the coaching staff at TJ.

Clarke Hooper >> BOYS COACH I am a former Division 1 athlete from Mount St. Mary's University. My primary events were the 800 meter dash and the 4x400 meter relay. I was a consecutive scorer for our team, and eventually contributed to our first championship win since 1997. I am excited to apply what I know from being a high school and college track and field athlete as a coach this year! I am currently a 2nd grade teacher by day, and "hobby jogger" by afternoon, and now, assistant coach to one of Frederick County's best high schools!

A MESSAGE FROM THE BOYS TENNIS COACH Coach Parker is excited to enter his third year at the helm of Patriot Tennis. We are excited for our new addition, Assistant Coach Christine Chadwick. Coach Chadwick comes to the program eager to learn and continue her love for helping students and student athletes as they continue to grow into responsible, respectful and successful young adults. As we continue to grow our program we expect to have a multitude of newcomers to the game as well as several returning players. We are excited for another fun and growth-filled campaign.
