This is my 9th year at Kempner HS but my 2nd as a Head Coach for the Cougars. I began my career in Cedar Falls, Iowa at Price Lab school on the campus of the University of Northern Iowa. From there I moved to Janesville, Iowa in 1994 and Coached HS Football, Boys and Girls Basketball as well as JH Baseball. In 1998, our family moved to Katy, TX to coach at Beck JH in Katy ISD where I coached JH Football, Basketball and Track. In 2000, I was fortunate to move to Cinco Ranch HS and join with Coach Jones to help build the program into a 19-6A power, culminating with winning their only district title in Cinco Ranch history, in 2005. In the summer of 2007, I moved to Kansas to work as an Asst Principal / Athletic Director in Atchison, KS and helped assist with their baseball team. Coach Jones came calling in the Summer of 2011 and our family moved back to Texas to join with him again at Kempner High School where we have won 183 games the past 7 years and won or shared 2 District Titles in 206A. I look forward to leading the Cougars into battle this year!!!

Coach Eric was an assistant coach for 14 years at Cinco Ranch High School and is in his 2nd year at Kempner High School. He is a native Iowan. Eric and his wife Kelly have 2 children; Taylor (22) and Jacob (22).

Welcome to the 2020 Lady Cougar Softball Season. The entire program has worked extremely hard all off-season on and off the field to prepare for this year and we are excited it is finally here. With some outstanding returners and some exciting new faces, the Kempner softball team has some high hopes and expectations for this 2020 season. The Players and Coaches are very thankful for your continued support and cannot wait to show everyone what the Kempner cougar softball program is about.

Coach Pledger Varsity Head Coach
Erin Pledger
>> VARSITY HEAD C OACH
Coach Pledger is from the Houston area, where she attended Cypress Creek High School and was a 4-year letter winner. After high school, Pledger attended Concordia University in Austin, TX and majored in secondary education. While attending Concordia she was a 4-year letter winner, second team all-conference her freshman and sophomore seasons, First Team all-conference for her junior season, CTX Defensive player of the year in 2011, CTX Offensive player of the year in 2013. After Graduating, Coach Pledger became the assistant coach at Concordia where she remained for 3 years. Pledger then transitioned to the high school level where she spent one year as the JV softball and freshman volleyball coach at Clear Brook HS. After a year in Clear Creek ISD Coach Pledger took the opportunity to open up a new school in Klein ISD, where she spent two years as the Varsity assistant at Klein Cain. Coach Pledger is excited for this opportunity at Kempner high school. Coach Pledger has been married to her husband Trey Pledger for 1 year and is a proud dog mom to two labradoodles.

Ben Duhon
>> BOYS VAR S I TY HEAD C OACH
Coach Ben Duhon is in his 4th year as Head Track Coach at Kempner High School. Coach Duhon has coached track and field in Fort Bend ISD for 16 years. Coach Duhon is also the Defensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach for the Cougars’ Football team. He was a 3 sport athlete in high school, competing in football, baseball, and track and field. Coach Duhon went on to play football at the Air Force Academy and McNeese State University, where he played in the 1997 National Championship Game. He was an academic All-American Linebacker his senior year. Coach Duhon received his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Lamar University. He is happily married to his wife Virginia, and they have three awesome kids, Davis, Aislyn, and Dean.
Angela Pierce

Coach Pierce was born and raised in Indiana, yet has enjoyed over 30 years in Texas and is a proud to be a Texan. She has a family of Kempner Alumni (siblings and her 3 children). She has a Bachelor of Science degree from Kansas State University and intend on continuing her education in the near future. She has been involved with Kempner running since 2009 in various capacities: parent, assistant coach and head coach. Coaching runners has been one of her most rewarding life experiences. She has a passion for running and truly enjoys the opportunity of teaching, sharing and learning with the Kempner student athletes. As head coach, she has had the opportunity to watch this program develop and grow. She is particularly excited about the 2020 Kempner Girls Track team, which has a bright talented group of athletes that have the motivation and willingness to take direction and improve, a coach could not ask for more. The golf team is off to a successful start for this year, already winning one tournament and placing in the top 3 in 3 different tournaments. We have 9 seniors and will complete to have medalist’s quality for regionals in both boys and girls. We are still growing as a program with 28 members and will have 4 complete teams in districts this year.

Coach Barrett is in his 5th year of coaching golf at KHS. This is his 18 year of teacher/coaching in total. His wife is a coach at Bowie Middle School and has 3 children, Owen (13), Cullen (10), and Ryan (6).
Keith Johnson
>> GIRLS VARSITY HEAD C OAC H
Coach Johnson is a graduate of Lutheran High North High School in Houston, TX in 1986. Then was a student at Concordia University at Austin where he began as a student statistician. This turned into a student assistant volleyball coach and the assistant to the Sports Information Department at Concordia University. Coach Johnson then went to Southern Arkansas University for graduate school and a Master’s Degree in Mathematics Education. While at SAU, Coach Johnson was the head girl’s tennis coach, the assistant volleyball coach. His last year at Southern Arkansas, Coach Johnson became the Interim Head Volleyball of that NCAA Division II school. Coach Johnson then had stints of head coaching Fort Bend Elkins HS as the girls golf coach. Coach Johnson is also currently the coaching golf and softball at Kempner HS. He also prides himself as a quality math teacher and enjoys helping students in the classroom. He’s excited to coach here at Kempner, because of the incredible players in the player and his excellent staff. Off the field he enjoys spending time with family, spending time with his beautiful wife Julie, spending time with his daughter, Lauren, and son, Will, who are both enjoying college at Texas Tech(Gun’s Up).

The Kempner tennis team will have strong senior leadership this year on the boy’s side. The #1 boys singles is senior Ishan Danayak followed by #2 senior Branden Vo. On the girls side we only have one senior, Annemarie Alcid who will be playing doubles. The rest are part of a strong junior group of girls led by Haylie Chau and Felishia Dang playing singles. Sophia Pineda and Katrina Viray make the #1 girls doubles team and completing the doubles and mixed doubles will be Jessica Romo, Kristi Lam and Katrina Nguyen. The boy’s teams of Alex Nguyen/Clark Baird and seniors Rishi Vora and Steven Vargas finish up the boys side of the doubles. We will be playing 5 tournaments this year with the District tournament winding up the season on April 2nd.

Coach Alexander is originally from Orlando, Florida where he played junior tennis and was both state and nationally ranked. He attended Rice University and was a 4 year letterman on the tennis team. Coach Alexander taught tennis professionally for 16 years at various tennis and racquet clubs in the Houston area. He has been the head coach at Kempner for the last 11 years. Coach still enjoys playing tennis with his players when he is able. He has a wife Vicki, of 25 years, 2 grown daughters and a new grand baby that keep him busy off the court.
