Our teams are ready for another exciting season of Scorpion Baseball! We are coming off a great off-season where participation numbers were fantastic. Coach Sillers and his staff have been diligently planning and preparing, and we are ready to take the field. We could not be more proud of our amazing student-athletes and coaches. They will represent Oakland Mills High School with class and tremendous pride both in the classroom and on the field. All of Scorpion Nation is truly grateful for the efforts of our coaches, studentathletes, boosters, and especially the parents who have sacrificed so much for the benefit of our baseball program. Your consistent efforts truly go a long way in helping us build our program into a point of pride for our school and the community. Thank you!

C OAC H I NG S TA F F 2019-20 OAKLAND MILLS BASKETBALL >>A MESSAGE FROM THE BASEBALL

HEAD COACH Welcome to Oakland Mills High School, the home of Scorpion Baseball! We look forward to an awesome season filled with enthusiasm and excitement. I have been fortunate to coach the Scorpions baseball program for the past six years and have seen continued growth each year. This year we return many of our players from last season and welcome new talent to the program. Our players and coaching staff have been working hard throughout the off-season to prepare for our 2020 campaign and are committed to building a strong program to help promote success for our student-athletes. We take pride in all we do and continue to set goals for our program to build off of our success last season. As a program, we continue to see our players go on to have success at the next level, both academically and athletically. I can’t wait to see what this season brings and have no doubt that our players will be ready when they step on the field this season! Our philosophy has always been to provide excellent and enthusiastic instruction to ensure each student-athlete has a good experience in the OM Baseball program. We emphasize as a coaching staff an equitable and student centered approach that is education based and provides opportunity for our student-athletes to thrive on and off the field. As a staff our goal is always to win but more importantly to provide our players with the tools for success in life after high school. On behalf of the baseball program, I would also like to thank Gameday Media and the local business sponsors for their help in supporting our efforts in creating such a high-quality program. Please consider supporting our sponsors with your business and be sure to thank them for supporting Oakland Mills Baseball! Lastly, to those who have supported us in the past and those who continue to support us now, from our sponsors, our community, our administration, our baseball parent volunteers and our families and friends, we say THANK YOU!

Coach Matt Sillers OM Baseball - Varsity Head Coach

2020 OAKLAND MILLS BASEBALL

Matt Sillers >> VARSITY HEAD COACH

Coach Sillers has been coaching High School baseball in Maryland for 14 years. This is his 7th year as Head coach of the Oakland Mills Varsity Baseball Program. He played high school baseball at Long Reach and St. Vincent Pallotti High Schools where he was All County and honorable mention ALL MET. He pitched for four years at Frostburg State University where he led his team with the lowest ERA in 2003 & 2005 along with AMCC conference championships and NCAA Tournament appearances in 2004 & 2006. Coach Sillers is also a high school history teacher and enjoys teaching the game of baseball to up and coming high school players. He is lucky to have the support of his wife, Justine Sillers and his two sons; Parker and Griffin who love cheering on the Scorpions! Sean Hart >> VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Hart will be entering his 6th year as an assistant coach of the Oakland Mills Varsity Baseball Program. He played high school baseball at Annapolis High School and continued for four years at Messiah College, primarily in the outfield. During his time at Messiah he helped lead his team to two MAC Conference Championships and NCAA Regional Appearances (2008 & 2011). Coach Hart serves as the primary hitting coach for the Scorpions and enjoys helping the players progress every day. He is grateful to have the support of his wife, Rebecca and his new son, Rollie!

Rod Clifford >> VARSITY ASSISTANT COACH

Coach Clifford has coached high school baseball for 20 years. The first three years as the varsity assistant at Oakland Mills, the next ten as the varsity head coach for the Scorpions, after which he took time off to watch his son play high school baseball. During that time, Coach Clifford was asked to join the staff of the baseball program at Mt. St. Joseph where he remained for five years before returning to assist on Coach Siller’s OM staff two seasons ago. Coach Clifford played baseball at Mt. St. Joseph High School and Catonsville Community College. Coach Clifford and his wife live in Baltimore County and have two sons and two grandchildren. Jack Cheney

>> JUNIOR VARSITY HEAD COACH

Jack Cheney began coaching baseball at 18 years old, while still playing ball. He would volunteer his time with local teams over his summers. Jack, a 2014 graduate of Oakland Mills, was recruited and received a scholarship to play for Delaware Technical Community College where he earned a starting role as 2nd/SS/P. Jack was recruited during his Sophomore year a Delaware Tech to pitch at the nationally ranked Salisbury University. He was extremely fortunate to having had the pleasure of playing under Head Coach Troy Brohawn, a former Major League Baseball player and a 2001 World Series winner with the Arizona Diamondbacks. During his time at Salisbury University, Jack played a part in winning 2 of 3 consecutive Conference Championships, and 2 of the last 20 Consecutive NCAA Playoff Appearances. After Jack’s playing career ended, he has become a full-time head coach for summer teams in the Washington DC Metro region and also works as a private instructor. Coach Cheney served as a consultant for Oakland Mills Baseball during 2019. He also has served as the team’s strength coach for the past 2 years. The 2020 season will mark Jack’s debut as the Scorpion family’s junior varsity head coach. He looks forward to the opportunity to develop high school baseball players for years to come. Coach Cheney is very grateful for the support his parents provided him during his playing career, and even now as a high school coach.
