A NOTE FROM THE RRHS PRINCIPAL: Welcome to Rio Rancho High School! Baseball season and home games are always exciting events, and our student athletes and coaching staff have worked hard to prepare for another exciting season. We are proud of our traditions and strong athletic teams here at RRHS. I would like to personally thank our coaches, sponsors, and parents for all they do to support our athletic programs -- your contributions are greatly appreciated. We also appreciate the fans and community support for our teams. I hope you have a great experience when you are on our campus, and encourage you to attend as many games as possible. So that everyone can have a good experience while attending games, we expect our participants to practice good sportsmanship at all times and show respect for our coaches and players, the opponents and their fans, and the game officials.

HEADCOACH A MESSAGE FROM THE
On behalf of the Rio Rancho High School Baseball Staff, I would like to welcome you to the 2020 baseball season. The staff and players are very excited about this season and are looking forward to building on the foundation and traditions set by those who have come before us. It is our goal to make everyone associated with Rio Rancho baseball proud not only of our accomplishments on the field, but also of what we accomplish in the classroom and in our community. We are constantly “CHASING GREATNESS” in everything we do. Every practice, every pitch, every play and every day on and off the field. Looking forward to our season, we are playing a strong non-league schedule before we enter the always tough district. We hope our preparation, dedication and determination will help us compete at our highest level every game. To those who have supported us in the past and to those who are supporting us now, to our sponsors, our community, our administration, our families and friends, we say thank you!

Ron Murphy Varsity Head Coach
COACHING STAFF 2020 RIO RANCHO BASEBALL
Ron Murphy >> VARSITY HEAD COACH Brooklyn-born, lifelong New York Mets fan, Ron Murphy is never far from a baseball diamond. He graduated from Newfield HS in NY when he then moved to NM and enrolled at the University of New Mexico. Coach Murphy was the JV baseball coach for Sandia HS from 1985-1988. He then was JV Coach for one year at Highland HS in 1989. From 1990-1997, Coach Murphy got his first head coaching job at St. Pius HS in Albuquerque. He led the Spartans to many district championships and state title games. His final record at SPX was 117 wins and 42 losses. In 1997, he was hired to be the first ever baseball coach at Rio Rancho HS. Since being at RRHS he has led the Rams to many district championships as well as 3 state championships in 2007, 2009 and 2013. His current record at Rio Rancho HS is 445 wins and 167 losses. His overall record as a head coach is currently 562-209. He is currently 2nd in the State of New Mexico in total overall wins in the history of baseball head coaches. (Overall State record is 582 wins). On his resume, he has also coached 17 years of HS football at Sandia, SPX and RRHS. He also has 2 years of coaching girls basketball at Sandia HS as an assistant. Coach Murphy is married to Minerva Murphy and has 3 kids. His daughters, Valerie and Amber, have both graduated from RRHS and helped the volleyball team win several state championships. They both went on and played college volleyball. He has a 17 year old son named Tyler Murphy who currently plays in the Rio Rancho baseball program. Tyler is currently carrying an overall 3.91 GPA in HS. Lastly, he has two grandsons and a granddaughter. (Jaedyn, Jaxon and Brooklyn) Jaedyn is 9 and plays baseball for the Hooligans. Jaxon is 4 and plays T Ball for Cibola LL. Brooklyn is 1 and throws the ball hard already. Coach Murphy has coached current Texas Rangers catcher Blake Swihart who has won a World Series with the Red Sox. Coach Murphy has also coached Brendan Donnelly who has won a world series with the Angels and Red Sox. He also got the win in the 2003 All-Star Game. Coach and his wife are the proud godparents of Brendans and Rhonda's daughter Ariana. Coach Murphy's two fondest memories are being in the stands to watch Blake Swihart's first ever major league HR and also in the stands to see Brendan win two World Series rings and pitch for the American League in the 2003 All Star Game.
