Daily Bread - ready for the festivities and more!
Daily Bread’s Christmas range is back in store and getting all of us salivating. Their ethos has always been about striving for perfection and the Christmas range is just that.
To understand what’s on offer Channel Magazine chatted with Patrick Welzenbach (owner and Head Baker), Josh Helm (owner and MD) and Lorenzo Romano (Senior Baker)
Channel Magazine: Tell us what you have in store for us this Christmas at Daily Bread?
Josh Helm: The Kiwi classic Christmas fruit mince pies, panettone, award winning stollen and the best croissants in New Zealand!

CM: What is your favourite product coming out of the Christmas range?
Pat Welzenbach: I will always say the stollen for Christmas! After recently winning the best croissant award I would have to include them too; they are an everyday classic.
JH: I can’t go past the fruit mince pies, I think they are our best ones yet.
CM: Not everyone has heard about stollen. Pat, can you tell us more about it and how you enjoy it?
PW: It is a traditional German Christmas bread, packed with almonds, citrus peel, and rum-soaked fruit. My grandfather (Max) has been making stollen the same way for 80 years and his stollen is the best. The recipe is exactly the same and hasn’t changed since he developed it. It’s the perfect accompaniment to your morning coffee or afternoon tea. Stollen is also a great gift idea.
CM: What do you think is the best way to enjoy panettone?
Lorenzo Romano: Dipped in my morning coffee. PW: As is, not toasted and no butter. JH: Controversial, but lightly toasted with poached stone fruit, yoghurt and honey.
CM: What does Christmas Day mean to you?
LR: Definitely a way to catch up with family and friends after a busy Christmas production period.

CM: Daily Bread has had a busy year. What will we see from you guys next year?
PW: We’ve had an unbelievable year and so grateful for everyone’s support. We will continue to constantly improve everything we do. We will focus on creating New Zealand’s most delicious breads and pastries. We’re also expanding our business to a wider audience, so watch this space as Daily Bread becomes available to more Kiwis.
