Khana Indian Cuisine in Devonport brings the freshest and most authentic Indian cuisine to the North Shore. Channel Mag's Liz Cannon chats to owners, Anurag and Indu Gupta.
Anurag and Indu have lived in New Zealand for 17 years, and have been operating Khana Indian Cuisine for the last eight years. Having recently opened in Devonport, they have fully refurbished this local restaurant to create a bright, spacious and joyful space, the perfect backdrop to delicious Indian fare. When asked to summarise what Khana offers, Anurag flashes a broad smile and with wide, open arms, states; "Khana is about fresh, authentic Indian food. End of story!"
And he is not wrong! Khana provides the widest possible range of authentic Indian cuisine, using free range chicken, fresh hapuka fish and only the freshest of vegetables and spices. Their in-house paneer and homemade kulfi ice cream are both freshly made on site too. Their delectable specialities include an amazing goat curry, a firm favourite of the locals, and an impressive array of authentic vegan and vegetarian options, such as cauliflower florets and homemade onion bhajis. Anurag and his team are justifiably proud of the wide range of what's on offer, with a firm focus on vegan and vegetarian options, as well as full provision for gluten free and other dietary requirements. The children's menu is a perfect smaller extension of exactly what the adults eat; authentic and fresh, appropriately sized and spiced for the kids. Guests can dine in and enjoy the bright and cheerful ambiance along with the wide drinks menu too (or BYO), or takeaways are popular with both pickup or delivery options available. However you choose to experience the amazing cuisine of Khana, the friendliness Onion bhaji and superb service of the team are second to none. This really is Indian cuisine at it's very best.
