THE BENGAL’S PURR Bengal’s Purr seniors discuss their thoughts on future
6 Opinion
By Erin Kammer, Gracyn Richardson and Mikey Vidovich Senior Staff Members Mikey Vidovich, Entertainment Editor: I have mixed feelings on graduating. I’m excited to finally be done with high school and actually be able to start my life, but at the same time I am terrified to be on my own. College is also something I have mixed feelings about. On one hand I’m upset that I have to go back to school after already spending 12 years of my life in school. But on the other hand I am excited to actually begin training for my future career. I originally wanted to go to a film school, but decided to attend LCSC for nursing, and I’ll keep film on the side as a hobby. I am very nervous for college, mainly because it will be all my responsibility to make it to graduation. But I know that once I do I will have a degree for a lifelong career. Leaving high school is going to be sad, because I won’t be around all the same people I have been with for the past 12 years, but I know that college friendships are more likely to be the long-lasting ones. Gracyn Richardson, Editor-in-Chief: Graduating is going to be a relief. In movies, they always portray high school as being the prime time in one’s life -- full of partying, lifelong friends and the big “senior prank.” But that’s not the truth. The truth is that high school sucks. It’s the time in your life where you have to make really big decisions about your future. Even though the counselors and our teachers prepare us for those said choices, none of us are actually ready for them. We all just pretend that we are ready until we finally convince ourselves that we are. But doesn’t everyone do that whenever they are faced with something challenging? How else would we be able to deal with things like death or loss without slowly pretending that everything is going to be OK? Graduating is just another step that we all have to take in life in order to be able to move forward. Like it or not, we all have to do it eventually. Graduating from LHS is a bittersweet experience. I found my real friends, along with those who are just a screw in the mean machine. Without LHS, I would not be who I am. Erin Kammer, Business Manager: Graduation is a right of passage from living with your parents full-time and being under their rules to having that first fresh taste of freedom. If you would have asked me about graduation at the beginning of the school year you would have gotten an excited person, waiting for the day to walk across the stage. Now I’m not as excited, I’m nervous and not really sure if I want to pursue the rest of my life. There is something in the back of my head saying, “You are going to stay in high school for the rest of your life.” The thoughts of college racing around my head are somewhat overwhelming. From touring the campus to signing up for classes, it’s been a whirlwind and I’m not quite sure what’s going on anymore. I’m excited to be living away from home in the dorms, but I’m not ready for the 50-plus students to a class, the feeling of going the wrong way, or going weeks without seeing my family. I’m sad to be leaving all of my lifelong friends behind as a pursue my degree in advertising, but I know they wish me well. I’m excited to make new friends and to meet new people. Overall, I don’t think I’ll ever be ready to “grow up”, but I’m ready to start the new chapter in my life and become the “new girl” all over again.

Metcalf shares insights, thoughts on post-high school By Erin Kammer Business Manager
At the end of her high school experience, Madeline Metcalf, one of the 2019 valedictorians, said she feels excited to move on, but knows she will remember these three quick years for a lifetime. In this Bengal’s Purr interview, Metcalf laughed about typical traits for high schoolers, while sharing about her accomplishments and advice that the younger students might want to take advantage of. Erin Kammer: What are your thoughts on being a valedictorian? Madeline Metcalf: I think being a valedictorian is a really cool accomplishment and it’s something cool to look back on from high school. EK: What are your thoughts on graduating?
MM: I’m scared to graduate, but I’m also really excited to start something new in my life and be going towards a career. EK: What was your favorite class in high school? MM: Probably Anatomy and Physiology with Mr. Leachman. EK: What is your advice to students who are just now starting their high school careers? MM: My advice would be to get involved in something around the school there’s like sports and clubs. Just do something and get involved because it is a lot better experience if you do that. EK: What is your biggest obstacle that you have overcome in high school? MM: That I procrastinate and I don’t really study for tests or anything. EK: What is your favorite high school memory? MM: Being involved on the
volleyball team and then doing DECA -- getting to go to DECA Nationals conferences and stuff like that. EK: What is your favorite childhood memory? MM: My family summer rafting trips. EK: Who is your role model? MM: I think my parents are my role models because they work really hard and they are always reaching new goals that they set for themselves. EK: What was it like being in National Honors Society? MM: I think National Honors Society is cool because you get to give back to your community. It’s another way to get involved and meet new people around the school. I think it was a good experience and I would recommend it to anyone who has an opportunity or the chance to do it. You might as well, and you won’t regret it.
gest obstacle that you have overcome? CS: Trying to get through the classes that I have disliked. MV: What is your favorite high school memory? CS: Being on the track team and going to the track meets with my friends.
MV: What is your favorite overall school memory? CS: My third-grade teacher who did magic tricks when I lived in Kamiah. MV: Who is your role model? CS: My grandma -- she is strong, smart and helpful.

New Sinaloa restaurant fails to satisfy expectations
By Erin Kammer Business Manager By Mikey Vidovich Entertainment Editor Sinaloa is a newly opened restaurant located at 800 Diagonal St. in Clarkston. This is a Mexican restaurant very similar to Lewiston’s popular El Sombrero. Visiting Sinaloa just one and a half weeks after its opening on May 4. Our experience at this restaurant was interesting, to say the
least. Erin Kammer: My first impression of the building was that it was very nice. The door was a little bit hard to find in the round building because it just blends in to the wall. Then when we walked in we weren’t sure if it was a “seat yourself” kind of restaurant due to the lack of the sign that usually states, “Please wait to be seated.” The whole restaurant was round and in a shape of a yurt. Hathaway and Wilson’s new comedy, The Hustle, tanks
By Mikey Vidovich Entertainment Editor
Directed by Chris Addison and released May 10, The Hustle, tells the story of two con artists coming together to commit a larger con. The trailer for this movie isn’t too far from what the actual film is about. There are a few small twists and turns, but nothing memorable. The one thing this film does have going for it, are its lead actresses, Anne Hathaway of The Princess Diaries, and Pitch Perfects’ comic Rebel Wilson. Wilson, of course, plays the hilarious, over-exaggerated character, Penny, while Hathaway plays Josephine, a very serious and smart con artist. Penny meets Josephine and, together, they con a few rich guys. But when Penny doesn’t

The rest of the film is about them trying to con a guy n a m e d Penny (Wilson) and Josephine (Hathaway) discuss their new plan. Photo courtesy of IMDb.com. The plot is dull her life thinking that she got Penny, wanting to show she’s and doesn’t have much char-
acter development throughout the film’s runtime of 110 minutes. Even the comedy in this movie isn’t the best. Some scenes cause chuckling, but nothing extreme, which is upsetting for a movie labeled and promoted as a comedy. Again, the only good things about this film are the actresses. The acting from the supporting cast isn’t bad, but that’s not enough to save this movie from being forgotten. The Hustle deserves a 2/5.

Live-action Pokémon Detective Pikachu succeeds By Gracyn Richardson Editor-in-Chief *Spoilers ahead* The new movie Pokémon Detective Pikachu debuted May 10. Though the movie only received a 64 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the nostalgic film has laid a new field out for interactive graphic design. Meanwhile, many viewers get heartfelt enjoyment in seeing the make-believe animals that they grew up with. When this movie debuted at Lewiston’s Village Centre Cinema the only viewers in the theater appeared to be people over the age of 18. This was not a surprise, considering that many kids growing up from the late 1990s to the early 2000s were infatuated with Pokémon. For instance,
on Nov. 21, 2014, the Pokémon company released Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in Japan. The pair of games sold 1.3 million copies as standalone packages and another 90,497 copies in the form of a “Double Pack” containing both versions. According to the Japanese sales
tracker Media Create, early purchasers of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire were primarily in their 20s. The movie gave viewers the live-action Pokémon experience in the most perfect way. The movie centers around Tim Goodman (Justice Smith), who is dealing with the recent
loss of his father, Harry Goodman. The movie gives viewers a connection to the characters in a way that movies usually cannot do. This is due to the popularity of Pokémon, and due to the many Pokémon scattered throughout the movie. Most of the Pokémon meet expectations in liveaction form. But certain Pokémon bring a collective surprise. For instance, Jigglypuff is known for having a “swirl” on its head that is the same color as its entire body, but a lot of people on Twitter or Facebook were stunned to realize that the swirl was the hair of Jigglypuff. Little surprises throughout the film like that keep the audience Tim and his friends watch as disaster strikes. Photo courtesy of IMDb.com.
engaged. Though the movie is interesting and almost too cute to handle, it has a very linear plot with a twist that can be guessed from the beginning. Still, the plethora of cute li’l’ Pokémon make up for that. All in all, the new movie Pokémon Detective Pikachu is aesthetically pleasing, and the immense number of Pokémon it brings to life is almost overwhelming. The movie truly earns a 4 out of 5.
Tyler, The Creator delivers best new summer hit By Gracyn Richardson Editor-in-Chief
The new album, IGOR, from Tyler, The Creator, debuted May 17. A recent tweet from Tyler read, “Don’t go into this expecting a rap album. Don’t go into this expecting any album. Just go, jump into it.” And that is the perfect introduction to this new and very different album. Unlike his other albums, such as Cherrybomb or Goblin, the new album showcases Tyler’s skills with electronic instruments, instead of relying on his rap. The album starts off with an ominous tone that leads into “IGOR’S THEME.” The song picks up and sets a strong tone for the entire album. Notably missing from this album is Tyler’s signature repetition of three words at the beginning of a songm like, “OK, OK, OK” at the beginning of Flower Boy’s song “See You Again.” However, there are repeated words and phrases throughout the album. “ARE

unique beats and almost groove-like sounds in certain songs such as “I THINK” and “A BOY IS A GUN.” With this, Tyler’s song “I THINK” is the best song on the album, and “WHAT’S GOOD” comes in a close second place. “I THINK” is like sitting in the grass on a summer day, drinking lemonade. Meanwhile, “WHAT’S GOOD” is more of a dancey, screaming-in-the-car type of song. All in all, Tyler, The Creator’s, new album is the perfect album to start summer -- maybe the best summer album by Tyler since Flower Boy. The album
is unique and upbeat, unlike Goblin. It has a groove that Tyler has never achieved before. The album intermixes 1980s synth and modern-day beats, and lays his amazing vocals over the top. For all this, IGOR rightfully deserves a 4/5.

Meet the Staff
Dear Seniors,
Variety 15
We’ve all had different beginnings here at the Purr, but the one thing we’ve all had in common was you. You were here when we joined this little family, and we’re here as you leave to start your newest adventures. Thank you for taking us under your wings and teaching us how to make pages, conduct interviews and so much more. You all brought individual strengths to our group; this newspaper wouldn’t be the same without you. Remember where you came from and keep your eyes on where you’re going. Go forth bravely; you’ve got us in your corner. Sincerely, The Cubs

My Purr seniors, Each of you is about to discover how amazing and unique you are -- lucky me, I’ve had a sneak preview in Room 103. It’s been a privilege to watch you grow. To paraphrase the Jay-Z Unplugged album of 2001 (OMG, was that the year you were born?): You could have been anywhere in the school these three years, but you’ve been here with me. I appreciate that. Now let’s rock! Love, Mrs. Egland
To our amazing leader, Thank you, Mrs. Egland for everything that you do. Without you we would be nothing. You have shown us what we can actually do if we are pushed to do it, and you gave us the strength to achieve what we have achieved this year. Without you, we wouldn’t have grown as much as we did, and we are so very grateful to have an adviser like you. Thank you for everything, Egland. Long live us three seniors VS the world. Sincerely, Gracyn, Mikey and Erin To our readers, We, the 2019 Bengal’s Purr seniors, want to thank you for taking the time out of your lives to read our small newspaper. Without you, we would be so much smaller, and we cannot express enough how thankful we are for your support and views on our hard-worked pages. Thank you again. Without you, we would be nowhere near where we are now. Sincerely, The Bengal’s Purr senior staff of 2019
