Shrub roses can look stylishly chic or reassuringly traditional depending on how they’re used, and modern English roses bred by British rose experts David Austin are particularly appealing. English roses are recognisable by their layered blooms and ruffled appearance. They also offer gardeners bigger flowers, stronger scents and an even more reliable performance. uchsias have been around for many years but beautiful new varieties are introduced all the time. Always a popular shrub, the hardy fuchsia is incredibly versatile: it will grow well in full sun or light shade, in the border or in a container. Unlike annual ‘tender’ fuchsias which are grown for a burst of summer colour, hardy fuchsias flower year after year and come in a variety of sizes – prune lightly in spring, apply a winter mulch of peat-free compost, and feed regularly during summer to keep your hardy fuchsia in perfect shape.
