Visiting the Deceased
Visiting the Deceased
It is quite common for relatives to wish to see a loved one after death. The Adult Mortuary has a dedicated viewing suite for relatives to spend time with their loved one before they are taken to your chosen funeral director. We are available by appointment only for immediate next of kin and we request that extended family and friends spend time with your loved one at your chosen funeral director. Viewing a loved one after death at hospital involves seeing your loved one before they have been specially prepared for viewing by a funeral director. The mortuary staff will prepare your loved one with the utmost respect and dignity. Your loved one could be paler in appearance with areas of bluish-purple discoloration. This is the natural process following death and each person is different. Your loved one will also feel very cold. If you have any questions about their appearance please talk them over with the mortuary staff or funeral director.
There may be occasions where viewing your loved one cannot be possible, the mortuary staff or funeral director will discuss this with you. Viewing appointments are for 45 minutes on week day afternoons from 1pm until 3:45pm. Please allow enough time to park before your appointment. Appointments during normal working hours are arranged by contacting the Adult Mortuary on 0161 276 4476. The Adult Mortuary provides an on call service for emergency enquiries only. In exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to view outside of the routine opening hours of the mortuary.
