was an exciting end to what was an exciting month of reading as our Summer Reading Programme 2012, Reading is so Delicious came to a close last month. Each years libraries across the U.S. participate in reading programme to encourage reading and promote literacy. This year playing on the theme we decided to cover a number of events which included the reading programme but also a cake contest and a short film contest. And while the cake contest and short film were not met with as much fanfare. The reading programme attracted 41 persons who signed up with about half of the applicants completing the programme. Saturday, August 25 saw the end to our successfull programme. At a reception held in honor of the event and the participants, one thing quite evident, these folks really enjoy reading. Here what they had to accomplish.

avannah, 1864. Confederate Captain Patrick Driscoll and his dear friend and manservant Shadrack “Shad” Bryan leave their tearful families to help fight for the Southern cause. But only days into their assignment, the two men die in each other’s arms in a Yankee bombardment. Though the men are gone, their legacy will live on-as will the legend of the priceless Driscoll family treasure the two men have buried on Raccoon Island. Four generations after the Civil War, many Confederate families still remain in Savannah, struggling through the twentiethcentury in a South rife with hardball politics, personal vendettas and the hangover of war.
