Captain Dejan

Experience Dejan’s seaman career has started in 1988 as an engineer in cargo boat. For the next 20 years he works as chief engineer in the merchant navy . In year 2007 he joins yacht industry as a skipper/engineer and works on all kinds of sailing and motor boats, loging thousants of miles across the Mediterranean.

Qualifications Skipper of yacht up to 500GT, STCW2010, Safety at Sea (basic and advanced), Firefighting (basic and advanced), Radar and ARPA operator, GMDSS operator, Engine room rating (maintenance and repair)

Role Responsible for the navigation, safety, overall running and financial management of vessel, crew and guests. He is responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operations of the yacht at all times including compliance with all safety procedures and regulations. He ensures adherence to the international flag, port state and local laws and regulations. He communicates clearly with all crew members to ensure compliance with, and understanding of, the vessel’s policies. He provides daily crew leadership, whilst encouraging teamwork as well as individual, personal attention. He is equally responsible for delegation of duties and maintaining the overall supervision of the crew member’s task.

He is experienced in all areas of maritime industries, from fishing and tug boats to all classes of sailing and motor boats. He joined yachting industry as a skipper of 75-foot-long catamaran for chartering company in 2011 and since then has been working on various yachts in Mediterranean and Caribbean. As he moved through all positions from deckhand to skipper he gathered essential skills to cope with all situations on board so that guests can have only fun and unforgettable time.

More than 15 years of experience in various classes of sailboats as well as motorboats up to 15m. It was then time for the next step for Dejan, so he took opportunity and joined the DWINGER team in summer 2013, as a deckhand. He is originally from Montenegro, where he practiced in almost all of the sailing and fishing competitions held there and worked as skipper of tourist boats in his home town of Herceg Novi.

Mediterranean, Atlantic crossings to Caribbean from Mediterranean, North Atlantic waters form Holland to Greenland, Atlantic Tropical tuna fishing, Indian Ocean tropical tuna fishing.

Qualifications Coastal Skipper, Basic Safety Training, Medical Care Onboard Ship, Security Related Training for Seafarers, General Operator Global Maritime Distress and Safety System, Advanced Fire Fighting, Advanced Passenger Ships and RO-RO Passenger Ship Proficiency in survival crafts (PSC) and rescue boats.

Role He has the ability to stand in for Captain in his absence, acting as a second in command. He assist captain in navigation. He participates in deck operations, respecting guest’s activities. He has extensive maintenance knowledge and he is responsible for the running and maintenance of deck equipment and all the machinery. He actively searches out and finds problems before they turn into crisis, setting them straight.

Role He assists in navigation and all deck operations. Being in charge of sail operations and trimming he makes sure that sailing is always safe and fun. When not in navigation, Dejan is tender boat driver and involved in all maintenace in engine room as well as on deck.

Passionate about everything related to sea life and boating Dimitri Van Zeebroeck trained hundreds of students in sailing school Les Catmarins, Noirmoutier, France, since the age of 17. Responsible seamanship amid teenagers was key, as improving their individual sailing skills over the course of several years. After a career in photography and film his sailing passion eventually lead to an RYA Coastal Skipper license, after successfully following several RYA courses worldwide. He’s skippering his own 72ft sailing yacht, a wooden classical ketch, on which his continues to live a life on the ocean, together with his partner Jelena Usakova.

Qualifications RYA Coastal Skipper, STWC 2010, RYA VHF license, PADI Advanced Open Water diver.

Role He is helping with all deck operations including sailing, navigation, mooring and anchoring. His eye for detail make sure deck is always tidy and safe. He will be concentrating on the interests and desires of the guests on board.

Jelena Previous experience

The last 4 years Jelena was an owner, managing director and a hostess of an art cafe in Latvia. She learned barista and bartending skills in Sweden, Stockholm. While working directly with customers she learned to adjust herself to the personality of every guest. Jelena has the ability to find the right approach in a friendly and attentive manner.

Qualifications STCW Safety Training, RYA Coastal skipper, RYA Day Skipper, RYA Competent crew, Master Degree in International Relations and Commercial Diplomacy.

Role Responsible for the organization, management and cleanliness of all interior and guest storage on board. She maintains an accurate inventory of all service items and supplies, whilst ensuring the cleaning and preparation of the vessel remains of the highest standards prior to any and all guest trips. She is in charge of the provisioning of the vessel for both guests and crew in all aspects of daily life. When guests are onboard, she ensures that they are properly cared for and that all of their requirement are met. Thanks to her sailing capability and seamanship skills she also offers assistance on deck during navigation.

Previous experience Previous experience 38 years Royal Netherlands Navy Officer. Sailed as Bridge watch Officer, Operation Officer on Frigates up to Second in Command functions on large Navy Vessel.

Dan has been working on S/Y DWINGER for 3 years now. Before that, he had over 11 years’ experience working in kitchens, including the very top of the hospitality industry in the Netherlands, cooking at Michelin level.

2008 – 2010 Commanded HNLMS Mercuur (1500 BRT). Took in his last function as Second in Command of Landing Dock Platform HNLMS Rotterdam as General Manager care of the safety and well-being of the crew and al ships guests.

From 2012 – 2014 he ran a cooking studio, giving lessons for up to 12 people, training cooks and preparing them for their exams. He also came second in a national cooking competition. He is currently also a third year Business Studies student, specializing in Entrepreneurship, at the University Inholland Alkmaar.

Role Guest hospitality manager. Responsible for the overall well-being of Guest during their stay, including transport from and to the ship at arrival and departure. Daily communicates with the guests to facilitate their entertainment program and any other requests to make their stay as pleasant as possible.

Role Is in charge of the galley and is responsible of guests and crew meals, assuring a rich variety of food. He estimates food needs, reviews inventory assuring adequate supplies are available, sticking to budget and guests’ expectations. He carries out food service activities in order to have meals prepared at scheduled times and makes sure to comply with health regulations. Thanks to his creativity, he develops new recipes and ways of serving food in order to satisfy different guests’ wishes.
