THE FLEMING HOTEL

Project Completion: 2017 Location: Wan Chai, Hong Kong Team: A Work of Substance Hong Kong Project Role: Project Planning Assistant [Design Development to Construction] Area: 3382 m2

Located on the western district of Hong Kong Island, The Fleming Hotel is a newly branded and refurbished boutique hotel containing 66 chic bedrooms that take guests back to Hong Kong’s 1970’s business industrial period. The hotel’s branding strategy draws inspiration from its location and history during the maritimes heritage and aims to connect people culturally, socially and efficiently moving forward. The hotel’s interiors and details are based on Hong Kong’s well-known form of transportation- the Star Ferry. Taking inspiration from this prominent symbol, the boat connotates to Hong Kong’s deep cultural connection to its community, heritage and traveling experiences. In addition, Osteria Marzia, an Italian inspired restaurant located on the ground floor of the hotel is inspired by the diverse seaside of Italy’s coastal regions. Nautical design details both present in the hotel suites is also portrayed in the restaurants’ design as well.

ORIGIN GRILL SHANGRI-LA HOTEL

Project Completion: 2017 Location: Singapore Team: A Work of Substance Hong Kong Project Role: Project Planning Assistant [Selection & Sourcing of Materials] Area: 535 m2

A train station is a destination of crossroads where the lives of individuals converge and intersect representing the beginnings and endings of a journey. Inspired by Singapore’s colonial character and historical abundance in trade, Origin Grill and Bar evokes nostalgia to steam train travel. With the existing carved arches, dark turquoise velvet drapes, organic brass and red distressed leather, these characteristics reminisce romantic art-deco interiors. Diners begin their journey through the presence of a kinetic sculpture leading into the ticket counter, grand hall, platform, and finally to the intimate carriage.

PERSONAL WORKS

Wassily Kandinsky’s Composition 9 Remastered, June 2018 3D Model, Watercolour & Stainless Steel Pins

Wassily Kandinsky’s painting, Composition 9 is filled with colours and overlapping forms inspired by his passion for music. There are many similarities between the composition of a song and how a painting is composed. Relationships were drawn between the geometrical and organic forms through intersecting lines, points and shapes all in which were dispersed to create an entwinement between the organic and geometrical. The whimsical presence of movement and dynamism are present in the design of this pavilion created by the submersion and fluidity of watercoloured shadows. Similar to Kandinsky’s painting of overlapping forms and lines, depth is portrayed at 3 different levels – foreground, middle ground and background. Stainless steel pins were fastened onto each of the layers, while still creating a sense of varied levels and overlapping surfaces.
