The rio hondo channel has evolved to an area made compatible for humans and capable of containing a flood. In order for this to be made possible the channel had to be changed by man. The wildlife adjusted regardless of the dastric change. The baseline

the thought of the removal of human existence is the answer to the problematic issues in ecosystems. due to the process of nature taking years to create can be damaged or changed within little time. the addition of humans was the line of comparison before and after there presence.

continuity noun A on going process not stopping wether it be at a fast pace or slow pace. The Rio Hondo channel will always have continuity even though it does not have water. Any ecosystem will continue it will not fail only shift.
5
The landscape is a forever changing place at all scales. its changes are at different rates and times. The passing of time is the acceptance that change has happened. continuity was chosen because of its close relation to the life and evolution of the channel. the channel flows in one direction and has relations from its start to its end.
6
In the Rio Hondo the vegetation spreads due its pollination, the shape of the Rio Hondo helps track this natural process. Dispersal is key to the success of pollination through the channel.
Disperse The spreading of a material over a open space such as a landscape. The s[reading comes in different ways, it could be naturally or purposely.

The channel is a long area full of different individual networks coming together to carryinformation but most importantly duplicate it. One of the main reasons it has flourished is becauseof its ecosystem consisting of wildlife and vegetation. The channel is a producer and humans are the beneficiaries.
ecosystem a group creating a network that is thriving when working together to create a successful biota. a environment where interactions are sometimes interacting on purpose or by accident. This does not limit to vegetation but also applys to human activity in everyday interactions. The network of systems in place are to further the potential of interaction.

The Rio Hondo channel has a start and finish, you can connect them both by seeing the same material at the end of the channel as the beginning. The channel is made of cement until it reaches its edge located at whittier and arrows. At the beginning of this edge rambunctious starts the natural filtration system created by the high population density of willows and broken washed up sediment.
EDGE A line marking the separation or division between two areas. The end of a object marks its furthest distance from its center. Its boundary defines its mass, edges are sometimes controlled and purposely shaped. edges control the path and movement in some cases such as public spaces. edges also define the flow of movement.

Almost every ecosystem has had changes to accomodate humans, by doing this changeremoves its original state. Although therevery few places that are 100% pristine they keep a large percentage pristine to a certain extent.
PRISTINE
A condition in its original form before it ever evolved into what it is now. The current state will not be considered as pure as it was before its change or its evolution. its complete natural virgin state is before any changes were made by man therefore damaging its impeccable characteristics.

The different materials come from a wide variety of mediums but combined create a ecosystem that becomes a producer and enehances the experience. Layers of material piled to create a foundation holding everything in place. Working as networks feeding of each others energy to boost survival.
MATERIAL Different meduims each with a specific texture and use used to create a larger scale mechanism. Everything is made up of different items to become more dynamic. In order to achieve greater results the right mediums in greater numbers create a program at a larger scale

In this diagram i illustarted how everything is composed in more than one way. the different geometric shapes were arranged based on their shape and color. Every shape is different but has an impotant roleto complete the final product. Knowing how and what to combine different elements is key to designing solutions for the environment.
composition the layers and ingredients used in a design to create a whole system. every space is composed of different layers coming together to create a network. The different ways spaces are mixed andjoined are all examples of the different layers used within a landscape composition. This not only refers to the way things are made of but also by the way they are assembled.

The Rio Hondo is full poised opportunities for change and in between these changes we have phases. Phases can be related to the description of the environment changes as the seasons do also. the different season creates a different experience every year, its never exactly the same due to shifts in a ecosystem. every time you visit a place like this it is a different experience.
Phase(s) A distinct moment in time where change is about to happen and the current state is about to change. The development of the an ecosystem goes through many phases or shifts for the better of the environment. A state of where something is poised for change.

Nooks created along the channel to provide different experiences for pedestrians. These experiences are to create two paths. These nooks are used to place people in a different expeirnce with the contact of an novel ecosystem. Putting people in these epxerinces will bring awareness to the damaged ecosystems around the world due to human intervention.
Nooks Created areas for use of space, it could be created naturally or man made. Spaces can be simple or complex no matter the size.

Form Greg Lynn
Technology now goes hand in hand with design, the first steps in creating a form may start with a hand sketch. The steps towards the launch of the design due to technology being so advanced can now be used to create forms and use them as process not to create a final product but to create an idea to sell. Technology has become the base to create all forms and now they can be brought to life with 3D printing and CMC milling. These tools are now the necessities for the design world that is connection to the innovative world. With the addition to creating forms and applying to for example a boat the future can only progress and create solutions and better products. I believe the approach Mr Lynn had in all his work and progress lead to advanced designs due this approach. The involvement he had in his process showed in his results as if he controlled every aspect of the building process to create a successful form. In Landscape Architecture with experiment with different mediums in different locations similar to what Mr Lynn explained in his lecture. The process he showed definitely reminded of how we work in design, every process showed substantial change but importantly progress learning. His presentation helped me realize the final product is not as important as the process because of its substantial importance to your work. Presenting process shows the type of path you took to where you came to a realization.

One Night Stand Address: Holiday Lodge Motel 1631 W 3rd st, L.A. , CA 90017
Many of our ideas when it comes to designing start in our mind, most of what we end up with start in a thought. Our ideas do can be used as something we came from and now is a passion because it’s a part of us. A place where you could express your ideas with the help of a place with different cubicles as showrooms. We create art and we express it individually, in one night stand they had every room a different experience just like in the channel of the Rio Hondo just like every few miles create a different experience. As I entered every room in the exhibition I wanted to apply that into design by applying different experiences in the channel. The unexpected was the feeling I had walking from installation to installation which was I felt walking down the channel as a designer looking for opportunity. The enclosed space we were forcefully placed in reminds of landscape architects working is a space and trying to figure out the space within the public realm. We as designers are hired to create spaces to have a variety of experiences within a constricted space but we always find ways to create this biota. As a landscape architect space is everything, when we approach a site first thing we do is a site analysis. A site analysis will help us relate to the size and capabilities along with the problems of the site. We are also installing solutions to the surrounding areas and use the size of the site as a base for reference. In one night stand the architecture all had a foundation why it placed the way it was. In landscape architecture every installation has a reason why its design and placed a certain way due to its surroundings.

Architecture has history and modern architects always like to date back to older designs. Some of the first designs ever built that are still are the most fascinating things because they were the first to design a certain way that set the standard. I believe Architecture is broken up in different ways such as sensing, insight, communication, action and feedback. Design is also related in the environmental aspect with the help of its surrounding areas. This reminded me of case studies we did on Boyle Heights which everything was connected through design within the city. Another similar aspect was the behavioral study of the people because they are the ones who make the area what it is. The social part I think is one of the main components in design because of variety of people who have values. The lecture was presented well but most important it was defended great, every subject she mentioned she was able to defend her work. I admire the fact she mentioned we have an influence on everything which is part of the social realm. There was a student who seem to challenge on every statement which as mentioned during the lecture and she was ready to defend her work. Great debate just like in our lecture portion of our design class which helps stand by our design. We all create work but if we explain how and why that just translates it better. We are all artists, artists have different languages and must sometimes translate to explain.

Liam Yung MIA 530 South Main Street , L.A.
Liam Young was definitely a designer who is really thinking a step ahead, his lecture made sense about what the future looks like. Major corporations like for example Samsung are definitely a major factor which will play in the landscape in the future. We as designers must find ways in our designs to help the environment rather than take away with as in traditional methods. The way the future is presented is through designing with an intention of helping the environment. Liam young showed the effects of how we are taking and taking from our planet and how we will feel the effects in years to come. The planet takes years for it to create its natural resources but we can take or damage them within a short period of time. With the increased number of automobiles on the planet global warming is becoming a bigger issue. Global warming doesn’t just mean a rise in the earth’s temperature it will show how all things depend on one another for survival. For example less wildlife parks will available and more animals such as the koala can be become extinct. The animals will be the ones who will be the first to experience the negative effects based on our actions as consumers. The production of cheap material items is one of the main consumers of resources and products such as a dollar tree items need it to keep its cost and durability low. A big problem is keeping things at a low cost and durability means more trash. At this rate this can mean an extreme amount of product waste.

Composing Landscapes Basic Form
All landscapes have a morphology that help depict the geometric shape of the terrain. The design created is due to its basic form also known as a location, outlines are used as barriers to enhance the notion of it being a ‘place’. Every place ever designed always has everything for a reason, main factor might be its previous state before its transformation. When designing you usually connect the site with its surrounding or its past, the Rio Hondo has a deep connection with the emerald necklace. Even though grids are completely different within a certain area it creates spaces with different contexts, but still allowing different experiences due its processes. Basic forms is related to mapping pointing out the different elements in a site, design combined with natural landscape. Areas are often combined with manmade design and natural landscapes to enhance natural process often damaged by human intervention. Every form has a theme and that creates inspiration toward an addition of a man made design. Layering out at dissecting a landform can help illustrate the composition of how a landscape is working. When the ingredients are listed adding only beneficial factors will help its ecology and create a process for providing special distinctions.

Intstinctual Marks Kulper
The diverse and forever changing world needs to be designed with that in mind, the thousands of trends constantly changing. The way we dress is a type of design just as the structures we build, we build based on current trend and surroundings. The people make up the surroundings are made by the people and a designer must make take that into consideration while being dynamic. In our studio process is everything along with visual process, dissecting a project and seeing how it works and it components can launch a beneficial exploration. Southern California is a bonus for us as Landscape Architects because this is the design capital of the world and it just so happens we are the only Landscape Architecture school with an undergrad program. Layers and layers of history within the Los Angeles area and with history you gave changes and shifts that have lead up to how dynamic it is present day. Scale should be beyond needed during process for the development of the design, doing this would limit you to a size but rather its function size in a large area not its physical size. The placing of your design on the dynamic changing world can give you a sense of it would be received and will it fit. Creating solutions through design is what we are here to do, even though we cannot solve all of the problems which is impossible. This is why Los Angeles is the best place for Landscape architecture to be tested and used as an experimentation.

Projective Ecologies Do Landcapes Learn ?
Although landscapes contain layers of different composition such as grasses, shrubs and trees it is all one organism. The reason I agree it’s all one organism is because they feed off each other, forming symbiotic bonds. The human body is also composed of different parts but with the absence of one part it will not function similar to an ecosystem. The pattern of the way things reproduce can diagram the reproductive system of an organism. The patterns of how, when, why will be shown through its process. Before process I think change is the launch to these processes, everything is always changing not failing or succeeding but changing (shifting). In the Rio Hondo the vegetation and algae grows but when the 50 year flood arrives it will all be washed and a new range of species will emerge from this shift. I believe everything evolves and changes, due to these changes new languages emerge. New ecosystems and discoveries create a path to a new vocabulary to describe these whole organisms. I wouldn’t call this a failure but a shift, a shift to show how dynamic ecology is and how it will always be unpredictable. I like how ecology is a plug in for landscape architecture, it is a beneficial factor to create these ecosystems through design. We as landscape architects are here to create provoke ideas these ecosystems and design within organisms and species. Definitely a thought which will stay with me is how landscape architects aren’t just merely making aesthetic landscape, but a system

Using a taxonomy to create forms but at the same time complying with rules will force you to design while complying rules. This reminds me of the project we worked on last quarter in Boyle Heights, creating a program that fits with the city culture and its necessity. Combining data found from different areas such as culture, population, ethnicity, history, and combining it to create a solution for the better of the community was a challenge but it lead to a bigger picture. The bigger picture was what I realized what Landscape Architecture is compared to what I thought, the reaction of my first quarter in Landscape Architecture. I thought we would be planting trees and shrubs instead I realized we made it to the big leagues and we were creating solutions not gardens. Creating solutions to better the future with the help of ecology and humanity.

Blessed to be in the position to make a difference in the future of the city I was born and raised in, to go from a consumer to a producer will be a step closer to better myself within the Los Angeles area. Experimenting in the most forever changing capital of the world by stepping back and creating solutions to the layers upon layers of population, culture, structures, and network densities. I never though how a bike path could contain so much history with reasoning from ecology connected with catastrophes happening every 50 years. A combination of different forms with space shared by wildlife, humans, vegetation all having an input to its success. Mapping is the manner to unveil the invisible pathways and boundaries created by grouped zones within the city. Design with the intent to create a solution to the decline in thriving ecosystems due to our existence
