VISUAL STORYBOARDING: DESIGNING GRAPHIC NOVELS & COMICS

Do you have a story you’d like to tell in pictures and words? In this workshop, we’ll focus on building a story arc by imagining and then designing our own characters, setting, and plot. Then, we’ll practice our creative writing and illustration skills to create the first chapter of a storybook, comic, or graphic novel. No prior experience necessary. Part of the fun is building our book worlds together from scratch!

Instructors: Jen Onken & Hevia Paxson Grades 7-12 • Mon-Fri, June 21-25 9 a.m.-12 p.m. • $175

FARM TO FORK

This is a weeklong program focusing on food systems where youth will learn about the variety of steps it takes for food to get on their plates. Teens will gain a greater understanding of their role in a food system, and they will explore the different components through hands-on activities. The week will include activities such as creating container gardens, working on local farms, and cooking for peers. Please note that this program includes volunteering on a farm, hiking, and other physical activities. Van transportation will be provided. GLOBAL COOKING

Youth will experiment with different ingredients to make authentic meals from around the world. They will also be exposed to language and culture as they prepare the food. At the end of the week, everyone will walk away with a recipe book and cooking journal. Please note that youth must have an open palette as foods from around the world use different spices, sauces, and flavors! CREATIVE CRAFTERS & BUILDERS

Join us for a week of building, crafting, games, and more! From designing useful items from recycled paper, to making plant-based dye to tie-dye shirts, we will have fun as we create art from the nature around us. Each day, youth will try a new craft, as well as participate in team building games and activities around the beautiful Berwick campus. This is a place where youth are encouraged to get creative and get their hands dirty as we build things together! Kids should bring: a white t-shirt or other item to die dye; an extra big shirt that can be the “messy” shirt when doing messy activities; and old newspaper (for making paper mache).
