anything in between. Supporting others in becoming their best selves is everything to me. BB: What was most attractive about working for yourself and what aspects of your work do you find most appealing?
A mirrored portrait of what it means to be a “Renaissance Woman”, Dawn’s abilities have earned her professional respect amongst generational influencers. Best in Business sat down with Dawn recently to dig a little deeper into her thoughts on business, success, and “doing it scared!”
DL: The freedom and satisfaction of seeing others excel! Coming from a 20 year very structured corporate environment, entrepreneurship is the ultimate freedom for me! What I find most appealing is the opportunity to change up whenever I feel the need! No red tape to go through, just me and my own decisions!
BB: What made you decide to go into business for yourself?
BB: What about challenges? Are there any aspects of your work that you find are sometimes challenging?
DL: I’ve always had a heart for people! I felt I needed to start giving back to others by sharing my story and offering support to those who needed the motivation to follow their dreams. BB: How did you realize that coaching was the right choice for you? DL: Although my business has changed over the years, the basis is the same. Helping others succeed in whatever their heart desires. Whether it be self freedom, revenue increase or
DL: I think as freeing as change can be, it’s also the most challenging as we are creatures of habit and comfort zones. The ability to pivot on a dime so to speak can at times can be very challenging.

COVER STORY
BB: What have you learned from being an entrepreneur that you didn’t anticipate prior to taking that leap? DL: "If it is to be, it starts with me!" When you have a business idea and run with it, you’re thinking, “I did it!, I’ve arrived!”. Well, sometimes that original idea stops working for you and you may have to go back to the drawing board and start again from scratch! Again, the pivot! Something I never expected at the beginning but have certainly embraced! BB: How do you define “success” and do you feel successful? DL: Success is defined by each individual for themselves, we all have different definitions. For me, success means doing everything I can to help others achieve their personal definition. When I look around at the beautiful people I’ve touched, even if I was only able to light a tiny spark in them to see what God sees in them, I feel blessed beyond measure. BB: What advice would you give anyone who is considering taking a leap into entrepreneurship? DL: Just go for it! It doesn’t have to be perfect to start! Make a plan, follow it, tweak the plan when needed but never change your end goal! (Make sure it’s a written plan so you don’t change it up in your mind when it becomes uncomfortable!) BB: How may our readers get in touch with you for more information about what you do or to work with you in some capacity? DL: I'm on LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram all under Dawn Lieck.

The Real Shea Queen, LLC Paula Farve is an international best-selling author, business advocate, and entrepreneur with a passion for holistic wellness. As the CEO and founder of The Real Shea Queen, LLC, Paula uses innovative techniques for blending organic products that help heal the body and soothe the spirit. The captivating thing about Paula's organic products is that she grows many of the products she uses right in her own backyard! She's an innovative businesswoman who seeks to empower others.
Best in Business Magazine sat down with Paula earlier this month to learn more about how she started her business and to discuss a few of the highlights of her success. Paula recounts that her business was actually started out of necessity, "I was faced with divorce after 15 years of marriage and had to supplement my income," she said. Since she'd always been passionate about wholistic healing, it wasn't too hard to decide what type of business she should turn to to help. However, what started as a something she did naturally, became her new "side-hustle." "When I realized that it had become my passion, it did not feel like work," said Paula. She quickly became an entrepreneur and this was great for Paula because she found that she could push myself as far as she wanted, with no restraints. She could follow her own guidelines for running, marketing, and managing her business, and this greatly appealed to her. Her products are infused with essential oils, including CBD/CBG infused products; all developed with plants grown by Paula herself. She specializes in the healing of skin rashes, eczema, dryness, and other diverse ailments. Paula has created an organic empire through the power of natural products and keen entrepreneurial audacity, handling all of the productivity, herself. We at Best in Business Magazine can personally attest that Paula's shea "buttah" is the best of the best, because we're loyal customers!

" I am very satisfied with creating, to me it is not only my passion but a blessing. Doing it all myself, being a one-woman show and knowing that it all falls on me and I represent my company is so empowering and what makes me love what I do even more," she says. We asked Paula what she has learned from being an entrepreneur that perhaps she didn’t anticipate prior to taking that leap. Her reply, "That I am bold and innovative. I am actually stronger than I knew. I feel successful because I have found my purpose in life. Do you know how many people who are still searching for that or who perish never leaving their dream?"
When asked what advice would she would give anyone who is considering taking a leap into entrepreneurship, she replied, "Surround yourself with positive people and tune out the naysayers. Remember the reason you started and remind yourself daily that this is your dream and everyone will not understand it. Make sure you obtain a mentor or someone to keep you on track and make you accountable. Speak daily affirmations." What's next for Paula? Well, she plans to go into manufacturing her products and producing and networking on a larger scale. The Real Shea Queen, LLC has a great future in store!

Stepping Into Sunlight A Call to Help Others
Sometimes your passion in life can lead to an exciting career. That's exactly what happened to educator and Licensed Professional Counselor, Sunny Veal!
Counselor by day, using my Professional Counseling License in the community after hours allows me to help in a more concentrated way.
With a passion for helping others and a 25year career as an elementary school educator, Sunny saw that the children she taught had many social and emotional deficits that needed to be addressed before they were really ready to learn. With a desire to help students develop a more positive mindset and healthier behaviors, she transitioned from teaching into school counseling; but that only deepened her call to focus on helping children see their strengths and identify their true potential. She realized that many children were lacking coping skills and confidence, so she set out to help them learn to build a toolbox of healthy habits and skills,
BB: How did you realize that your business was the right choice for you?
Earlier this year, she added a layer to her job as a school counselor by becoming the owner of Sunlight Counseling, LLC. We sat down with Sunny to learn more about her bold step into the world of entrepreneurship and the lessons learned along the way. BB: What made you decide to go into business for yourself? SV: After being in education for 25 years and in the mental health field for 5 of those years, I saw the need for more mental health professionals in our community. The need was for professionals that were equipped to work with children and adolescents. The current climate of our society has made an impact on so many families which often erodes the mental health of children. Not to mention the ever-present impact social media is having on preteens and teens. Over the past few years, I have seen a dramatic increase in anxiety, depression, identity issues, and emotional regulation among students as young as 6 years old. While I am still a School
SV: I felt God calling me to the field and he laid the foundation for me to build Sunlight Counseling beginning January 3, 2022. I have always worked for others and had no clue about running my own business. With the help of family and friends, I have been able to create a business plan and structure that works for my select practice. I am able to customize my hours to fit my full-time career as a school counselor as well as children’s director for my home church. BB: What is the most attractive about working for yourself? SV: Setting my own schedule and pay scale has been the best part of having my own business. I have the freedom and flexibility to maintain my full time schedule, familyand church involvement and still be a helper in the mental health field.

BB: What aspects of working in your career field are the most challenging? SV: The toughest aspect of working in the mental health field is a lack of control over client ownership and participation in the mental health process. You want to help all people and give them tools to live their best life, but some are so resistant to change, even though they have reached out for help. You want to access tools for them but they have to be able to help themselves. Another challenge is the number of people that you are not able to help. It can be quite overwhelming to think of all the people that need help and your limited availability to be that helper. BB: What have you learned from being an entrepreneur that you didn’t anticipate prior to taking the leap? SV: For me personally, the financial management aspect has been the toughest part. I have no understanding or experience in the world of finance or accounting. I have been a teacher and helper for 25+ years but have never deal with money management at a business level. This has been the biggest challenge and learning curve for me. Fortunately for me, I have been able to reach out to fellow Christian women that do have experience in this area to lead and guide me. BB: How do you define “success” and do you feel successful?
Sunny Veal, M.Ed., LPC, NCC SV: I count every day a success that I am allowed the opportunity to be the hands and feet of Jesus. When I show up for these students (at my school), clients (at my practice), children (in my church ministry), as well as my family and serve them the best I know how….. That is my success. Begin present during every moment with each of them and giving them my personal best is success. Once your business coach has learned everything that they can about your offerings and systems, they’ll next want to learn more about your vision for your company and the goals that you have for it.

BB: What advice would you give anyone who is considering taking a leap into entrepreneurship? SV: Pray, pray, pray! God will give you the unresounding confidence to walk in the path that he has laid on your heart. Less than a year ago, this idea of a private practice was barely a flicker. Once I received my license for professional counseling, LPC, God asked, “What will you do with this?”. That is when Sunlight Counseling, LLC became a spark that quickly took shape into a private practice that serves children, adolescents, and adults. BB: Would you like to share any contact info?

Communication With Your Peers. Your peers can offer valuable support and assistance, if they know what you are working on or where you may need help. They are part of your team, whether they are/are not assigned as a member. Do you take time to share a meal with your peers? What office challenges/issues do you discuss at the office or away from the office? Do they make suggestions that you consider trying and see if they work? Collaboration in every organization is critical to the success of the entire company. Whether you are a solopreneur or Fortune 10 CEO, the internal human and system dynamics will determine the level of productivity success achieved in a project, or long-term sustainability and profitability of the company. Each person hired by an organization is a part of the systems both human and technology. When only one part of the process is a success, this means that another part of the process is losing traction and needs improvement. Communication With Your Boss. What was your impression of your boss when you were hired? What made you decide to accept the position? What positive aspects of his/her conversation with you gave you a positive 'gut' feeling that said, 'this is the person I want to work with"? Now, you are hired. What communication techniques does your boss find effective? Is he/she a reader or a listener?

Ask Dr. Bizbuzz Dear Dr. BizBuzz, "I started a new business in 2019 but I am not making money. I am barely meeting my obligations of rent and supplies. How can I turn my business around? Where do I start? Angie Enterprise, AL
Dear Angie, Thank you for asking this question about turning your business around. Any business may be turned around to obtain success and profitability. It is not an easy process and takes commitment on your part to take the necessary steps to ensure your business success. Your letter points out several challenges: Your new business is just 3 years old. Your business is not profitable. Your vision to make your business successful has some gaps. Now, what to do? Becoming a good steward of money and making sure your finances are paying your bills is important. Did you quit your full-time job too soon? Did you not save enough money to make sure that your business and personal expenses would be paid for at least six months? Do you balance your personal and business finances daily? Do you stay within a budget for both personal and business expenditures? So many other questions to ask yourself to find out what the root cause for your concern….. Here is the first important step in your new direction to become successful and sustainable….

If the answer to these questions is "NO", then stop and take the time to step back and ask for some guidance. Asking for help in building your business is a strength not a weakness. There are several national organizations that offer free counseling and can give you another set of eyes to develop your written business plan. Check to see if there is a women's business center in your area, Small Business Development Center (SBDC), or contact www.score.org for the nearest location. Each have expert counselors in all areas of business development. Your business plan does not need to be lengthy. Start with a 2–3-page plan that will give you some easy strategic tactics to implement and monitor to see if they produce the reports you anticipate. Remember that not all tactics are without cost, so decide what type of budget for your business you want/need to invest to produce results of any type. Focus on completion of your tactics and what criteria you need to evaluate their outcomes. Managing a successful business takes commitment, patience, communication, and a plan. If you choose to not plan, plan to fail. If you choose any other type of plan not written but remains in your mind, then expect that your results may be the same as you started with. Eva Gregory of Enlightened Spiritual Business Academy asks the question (and I ask myself daily): What if success is my only option? The answer? SUCCESS IS MY ONLY OPTION! May your business plan be your new path to success! Dr. BizBuzz PS. Let us know how it goes. Until then, working to pay your bills is a great way to begin again. And it is ok to begin again any day, step of your journey into business.

EXCLUSIVE: NONPROFIT SPOTLIGHT
MISSION 22:
This month, we're celebrating a unique and extremely impactful organization: Mission22. The best way to understand exactly what they stand for, it is easiest to go directly to their website to see who they are and learn about all of the programs they offer. As stated on the Mission22 website: Mission 22 is a national community supporting active service members, Veterans, and their family members, through three areas of focus: Support and Treatment Programs— for active service members, Veterans, and their family members, addressing Post-Traumatic Stress, Traumatic Brain Injury, suicide risk and other challenges. Social Impact— uniting civilians and the military community to raise awareness of issues active service members, veterans, and their family members face. Memorials— remembering and honoring service members and Veterans through large scale installations and digital initiatives, while raising awareness for issues faced on home soil. Through this largely volunteer effort, we continue to make a national impact, and our community is growing every day. We are proud to lead this mission supporting our military, Veterans, and their families.
I became affiliated with Mission 22 in 2020 when I joined as an Ambassador for our Region. As a former U.S. Air Force Reservist, it was important to me to find a way to give back to those who served our country and came home changed and challenged. After learning more about Mission 22 and its dedication to Veterans and their families - I knew it was the place for me. One of the most common ways they work to bring about awareness and change is through their annual challenges. The first one I ever participated in was the 22 Push-Up Challenge. This is where you commit to doing 22 push-ups for 22 days in order to help bring about awareness of the 22 Veterans that commit suicide each day (some statistics may vary). Since joining them in 2019, they have added a whole host of challenges and our volunteer numbers have grown significantly. Together, we are making a difference!
I wanted to share more about why others join to support Mission 22, and learn more about their experiences with them. Here's what others have to say about this life-changing organization: "My story is simple and I am thankful I do not know one of the 22 personally. I just want to say how important our information booths are! I was at a CVMA ride where Angela Bleckley was set up and 15 minutes not only changed my life but saved my life! Now I am closer to those in Mission 22 than my family! I make it a personal mission daily to hand out info and talk to as many people as possible. I thank God for this organization and the opportunity to be in this fight!" Kevin E., North Carolina

Bringing awareness to Mission 22 and all that it stands for
"I was introduced to Mission22 by my dear friend, David Wood, who is also an ambassador for Mission22, and fellow jeeper. I have always felt that giving back to veterans was of utmost importance. They sign a blank check to government up to and including their own lives, to protect our freedoms at home, it is the least we can do for them.
Bringing awareness to Mission 22 at home and in the community
The most enriching experience for me since becoming part of the Mission22 family, by far, has been the ability to talk with folks at booths. Sometimes you stand there and just listen to a story. It could be a story of loss, a story of survival, a story of ones own journey to overcome obstacles. In the end, just listening, is what people need most. Someone who is willing to be there and be attentive to what they need to say at that moment. I would love for everyone of all ages and walks of life to know that, Mission22 is there for them. Whether they want to join our ambassador program, or join one of our programs for veterans, spouses of veterans, or our equine program for children of veterans in Oregon. We have teenage ambassadors with permission of parents. I think having our youth as part of our ambassador program is an excellent way to continue for generations the importance of taking care of those who protect us." Shannon T., Oregon

LEADERS EAT LAST BY SIMON SINEK Too many workplaces are driven by cynicism, paranoia, and selfinterest. But the best ones foster trust and cooperation because their leaders build what Sinek calls a "Circle of Safety" that separates the security inside the team from the challenges outside. Sinek illustrates his ideas with fascinating true stories that range from the military to big business, from government to investment banking.
LEAN IN: WOMEN, WORK, AND THE WILL TO LEAD BY SHERYL SANDBERG Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead by Facebook executive Sheryl Sanderson is one of the most popular leadership books for women. Inspired by personal experience and a TED Talk Sanderson gave in 2010, Lean In details the ways women hold back and miss career opportunities by being passive and polite. Sanderson encourages women to seek strong mentors, advocate for themselves, and assert their place in the business world. These actions can empower women to transform into leaders instead of merely accepting assigned roles. Although the book is a few years old, the lessons are still relevant. Given the challenges to women’s careers a remote workforce presents, Lean In is worth a revisit.
THE 21 IRREFUTABLE LAWS OF LEADERSHIP BY JOHN MAXWELL In The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership, John C. Maxwell outlines clear guidelines for leaders to follow to maximize influence and ensure that employees achieve a common vision. The book shares wisdom such as “leadership develops daily, not in a day,” and “leaders understand that activity is not necessarily accomplishment.” The book explains each rule plainly and provides anecdotal examples, covering every aspect of leadership from attracting and forming teams to securing legacy by planning for succession. Notable Quote: “You can’t move people to action unless you first move them with emotion…. The heart comes before the head.”
A LION’S TALE© WHAT IS YOUR STORY… We connect with others through shared experiences. Sharing relatable stories is how we have passed down lessons from generation to generation. It is also how we can help another get through a difficult season. Sharing your story may assist others to share theirs. THE BRAND The Lion represents strength, leadership, and courage. The scratches over the eye are the battle scars of life - see past your battles and remain mindful of life lessons and experiences. The Lion looking forward with roaring showing his teeth signifies, “I am ready, focused, and prepared to face the next challenge." Lastly, the slanted Crown, is a reminder to adjust your Crown and mindset accordingly and it also serves as a reminder that...I AM ROYALTY! There is a story behind every King and Queen, we have all overcome some type of adversity, some more than others. It is a story of how we "Failed. Overcame. Succeeded. ©” We have failed or been knocked down, but we rise and stand as KINGS and QUEENS!
