Welcome to BALLARAT

The name “Ballaarat” is derived from the Wathaurung Aboriginal name for the area, balla arat, meaning “resting place”. Built on fortunes made from the 1850s gold rush, Ballarat is known for its rich history, culture and beautifully preserved Victorian era architecture.

Ballarat is still yielding treasure today, in the form of quirky shops, hidden bars and worldclass cafés and restaurants... not to mention our lively music, art and performance scene.

Best of Ballarat has been created to help visitors and locals make the most of what Ballarat has to offer... so start exploring!!

Music, burlesque, song, satire, whiskey, rhinestones and a whole lot of talent. Join Nellie Minnelli and her troupe for the best vaudeville, burlesque and variety show in town!

It features the famous aria ‘One Fine Day’ and the Humming Chorus, along with Japanese and American musical themes. One of Australia’s greatest theatrical minds, John Bell, directs this English-language production, complete with beautiful costumes and sets. Hear Opera Australia’s wonderful singers perform with a chamber orchestra, along with a children’s chorus, drawn from local communities. Tix: hermaj.com.
