FRAZER:
Castlemaine artist David Frazer is renowned for his wood engravings and linocuts which explore the intricacies of the human condition. His finely detailed prints, marked by wit and careful observation of human interaction, capture moments of hope, loss and connection. This exhibition features prints made over the past two decades. Also included are new wood engravings made as a tribute to his distant relative, artist and printmaker Lionel Lindsay of the famous artistic Lindsay family of Creswick. Frazer’s prints are shown alongside a small selection of engravings by Lindsay from the Gallery collection.

PARKE:
Ballarat’s Avenue of Honour is the longest avenue of honour in Australia and one of the earliest known memorial avenues to have been planted in Victoria during the First World War. In 2014, photographer Trent Parke created a series of images of trees in the Avenue for the international exhibition The First World War, presented in Bruges, Belgium. In selecting and photographing particular trees for his series, he explored parallels between their natural forms and the fate of the individuals they commemorate, capturing these visual forms as an act of contemporary commemoration.

Marie Mason uses printmaking to represent the Australian landscape, for which she uses the reduction lino method, so as to have colour and diversity of tone in the work.
