Welcome to BALLARAT
The name “Ballaarat” is derived from the Wathaurung Aboriginal name for the area, balla arat, meaning “resting place”. Built on fortunes made from the 1850s gold rush, Ballarat is known for its rich history, culture and beautifully preserved Victorian era architecture.
Ballarat is still yielding treasure today, in the form of quirky shops, hidden bars and worldclass cafés and restaurants... not to mention our lively music, art and performance scene.
Best of Ballarat has been created to help visitors and locals make the most of what Ballarat has to offer... so start exploring!!

SUN 11 NOV 3pm THE VENUE - A SINGING
An original cabaret by Christine Tammer, depicting the devastating effects of poker machine addiction in contemporary Australia. Themes of secrets and subterfuge, guilt, addiction and self-harm over a single day inside a pokies venue. This is an opportunity to experience the work before it goes into full production. Like the 'reading' of a play, the performance is pared back to reveal the depth and complexity of the songs. FREE tix: eventbrite.com.au

SAT 17 NOV 8:30pm HAVE YOURSELF A BARRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS
Yes it’s Yuletide cheer Morgan Organ Style. Come and enjoy a Christmas party with a difference and a lot of organ. Bring Nana, bring Bex, bring the neighbour’s punk son – they’ll all love it! Santa will be there and Barry will be cooking up a Christmas storm (and sculling eggnog)… ooh aah. Barry hopes to get a kiss or two under the Mistletoe, and who knows, he might find a friend with medical benefits. Let Barry put a little organ joy in your stocking this Christmas. WWI: THE SIDESHOW
Presented by Creswick Theatre Company
A night of song, dance, comedy acts and enough good old fashioned 1918 style hospitality to end a war. In celebration of 100 years since the end of WW1, this tongue in cheek 'Patriots Concert Party' will have you singing, tapping and chuckling the night away.
Creswick Courthouse Theatre

1 - 8 DEC NATURAL CAUSES
Presented by Ballarat National Theatre
Eric Chappell is one of the top writers of comedy in Britain. And Natural Causes is comedy at its blackest and best. The incompetent and loquacious Vincent is employed by "Exodus" - a business which helps its clients to die. Walter wants to dispatch his wife, Celia, because he is having an affair with Angie. At his attractive country house, mishaps and misunderstandings abound. Will Celia survive the day? Tix: hermaj.com
