NAVARRE BEACH

Beginning in October, if you're traveling through the Gulf Islands National Seashore, between Navarre Beach and Pensacola Beach, be prepared for delays as repairs are being made to the roads. You'll see temporary traffic lights along this stretch of road until all repairs have been completed. Unfortunately, with Hurricanes and Tropical storms comes the storm surge that reaches the road where repairs and closures have become common in this area.

Navarre Beach's Fire Chief declared in September that for the last six months there had been ZERO drowings along the beaches, a feat that they are VERY proud to announce. As of that date, Santa Rosa County was the ONLY county along the Gulf Coast with NO DROWNINGS for that time period. Beach attendance was almost at the 700,000 mark with the Lifeguards assisting 187, rescuing 102 and provided Medical care to 105 individuals. They responded to 16 major medical calls and helped locate 21 missing individuals. As the season is slowly winding down, lifeguards will be manning the towers through October 30th.

SANTA ROSA BEACH The Habitat for Humanity ReStore has moved to a new home in Walton County, The move will allow for them to utilize OVER 15,000 MORE square footage than at their previous location. ReStores sell donated building materials and furniture for those in need with all proceeds going back to the community. In the store's first two weeks at its new facility, over 700 families have benefitted from this worthwhile cause. Click here for more information. A New Parking lot, located on a 2 acre tract of land on County Road 393 South, just north of the beach access on 30A west of Blue Mountain Beach, looks to become a reality, according to the Director of Beach Opera 9 | BESTOFEMERALDCOAST.COM

A structure will also be erected to eventually become a stop for the planned public transportation, which is designed to reduce the amount of cars which has become a traffic nightmare for years. The structure will include an air conditioned area and restrooms to arrive. The large lot will include 87 Regular Parking spaces, two handicapped-accessible spaces, 11 spots for Golf cart parking and 168 spaces for bicycles.
