May is in full bloom and Spring is sprung. But even the beauty of May would not be special without remembering to honor our mothers on Sunday, May 12. To my wife Jean, her 92-year old mother, Nora, who both bless me with motherly wisdom all year, to our staff and advertising sponsors who are mothers, and to all mothers who are Readers of Newtown Square Friends & Neighbors magazine, Happy Mother’s Day! Many of our readers who are mothers are also what I have come to call Reader Leaders. But believe me, I get almost as many calls and emails from men too, showing the same kind of reader leadership. What is a Reader Leader? It’s a reader of Newtown Square Friends & Neighbors magazine who shares how much they value Newtown Square residents receiving a free local monthly magazine. It’s Reader Leaders who call me or email me, to share ideas for local stories about youth, seniors and service organizations in our community. Readers Leaders also recognize businesses they use or buy from regularly, who they believe should be a Sponsor of our community. Reader Leaders recommend businesses who often become an advertising Sponsor because of a reader’s recommendation and doing so helps us grow our magazine in page count while our hometown magazine promotes the commitment that local businesses have made to the residents of Newtown Square. This month, on page 25, read how by your becoming a Reader Leader who recommends a Business Leader that becomes an advertising Sponsor, I’ll be asking you to lead our readers in another way too, by picking a family to be featured on the cover of an upcoming edition of Newtown Square Friends & Neighbors.

www.NewtownSquareMag.com Dear Residents, Spring is in full bloom all around town. For the first time in months, we’re seeing bright green buds popping up on the tree branches and bushes. We are now only a few weeks away from the sunny summer months. Excitement buzzes as families stay out later, the parks are full, and the restaurants’ outdoor seating fills up quickly. There are a lot of great events upcoming this month so be sure to look through our Calendar of Events. This month we were so happy to interview the McAleers as our front cover family. They have a heartwarming story of trial and triumph. Reading their story reminds us of the power of family and what it means to stick together through hard times. Be sure to learn more about your neighbors, the McAleers, in their article.

We were also excited to speak with the owner of Newtown Square Pizza, Dimitri Mylonas! He gave us great insight into his business and how restaurants have run in his family for generations. It's truly a heartwarming story of hard work, family, and (of course!) pizza. As always, we are looking for more families to feature from the area! If you know of a family that you would like to nominate to be in our magazine, please reach out to us at our email or give us a call!

The McAleers:
Christine and Michael McAleer
Persist on the Positive Michael and Christine McAleer first met in 1996, on a week-long beach vacation in Avalon, New Jersey. Mike, a college student, was staying there with some friends. Christine was staying with her friends, in a different part of Avalon. One of Christine’s friends heard about a party Michael and his friends were planning for the upcoming weekend. Whether coincidence or fate, Michael and Christine connected at that party and immediately hit it off. Shoulder to shoulder with people all around them in that beach house, they both felt like no one else was in the room.
by Craig Whitney Photography by Shannon Lynn Photography www.ShannonLynnPhotography.com
When they met, Christine was working as a Bank Teller after having attended a New Jersey community college. Michael was at Penn State, majoring in Business Communications but also interested in Finance. They wanted to start dating but made the mature decision to wait while Michael focused on his major and Christine focused on her budding banking career. They reconnected when Michael graduated and returned to the Philly area. Even though Michael and Christine were both so at home on the East coast, they were ready for adventure. They headed West, with a full tank of gas and half a plan. Each day, the sun rose against their backs and the sun set ahead of them. They visited all the places they’d ever dreamed of visiting: Nashville (one of Christine’s favorites), New Orleans, Austin, Mexico, and Phoenix. The trip was warm, beautiful, scenic and refreshingly new. Three weeks later, they arrived in San Diego, California. San Diego was exactly as they had imagined: Warm beaches with beautiful blue water, people in loose-collared shirts and sunglasses smiling as they walked to work. It was a pleasant, laid-back environment in which the two were eager to start their lives together. “It was wonderful,” Christine raved. “We loved it out there and made a lot of friends, some of whom are still friends today.” Continued on page 6

sport, he’s watching one.” His sports knowledge is extensive: Gavin can recite random pro basketball players’ career statistics, including from their college years. Michael coaches Gavin’s basketball team and his flag football team. The flag football team is co-ed, so Michael has been able to coach both Lauren and Gavin on the same team.
Lilly, Gavin, and Lauren with their two dogs
After several exciting years there, they returned East and settled in Bryn Mawr. Michael’s experience working for Morgan Stanley in San Diego prepared him for a job at Lincoln Financial. Christine made a career change and started working in the Billing Department at Allied Universal. “That has been a really great job for me,” Christine explained enthusiastically. “They’ve been flexible and understanding all these years.” When their first child, Lilly, was born in December 2005, the McAleer family bought a home in the Newtown Square area. Their second daughter, Lauren, was born in July 2007. Their first son, Gavin, joined the family in 2009. Twins Garrett and Declan were born in 2010. Unfortunately, Declan would not survive past birth. Lilly, age 13, is a 7th-grader on Saint Anastasia’s volleyball team. “Lilly’s your typical teenager,” Christine said. “She’s currently obsessed with The Office, and she loves art, mostly drawing.” Lauren, 11 years old, also plays volleyball at Saint Anastasia’s. Lauren’s also the McAleer family’s expert in all things electronic, from the newest apps and technologies to fixing every tech issue around the house. Her strong desire to help people even extends to dessert. “She’s very sweet and always the one who offers us things,” Michael shared, smiling. “She says things like ‘Do you guys want some ice cream? What can I get you?’” Lilly and Lauren enjoy sports, but 10-year-old Gavin is the family expert in all things football and basketball. “Gavin’s a crazy sports nut!” Michael said with a laugh. “If he’s not playing a
Michael and Christine’s love of exploring the world started with their journey across America. Their love for vacationing started when they met in Avalon. Both passions are still alive and flourishing even while their children are young. “We think it’s really important to travel somewhere new every year,” Christine said. “There’s so much out there to explore, and to show our kids.” The McAleers have visited Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire, Cape Cod, Atlanta, Orlando, and Saint Augustine. They all also love horse races, and have attended a Kentucky Derby, a Preakness race and the Belmont Stakes for the Triple Crown. The McAleer Family has always stressed togetherness and positivity, important values since the very unfortunate loss of their son Declan in childbirth and the second twin, Garrett, at four years old. In December, on the morning of the twins’ birthday, the family was awakened by their favorite song playing on someone’s phone. No one knows how that music started, but Christine took it as a Heavenly hello from the twins and the entire family bounced joyfully out of bed. “What we’ve learned, Michael said, “is that you never really lose somebody if you know where they are. We know Declan and Garrett are up in Heaven, waiting for us.” The positivity from that December morning evolved into a family project where everyone wrote down examples of something nice they could do for someone else every day. In March and April, they all tried doing as many of those nice things as possible. The sadness experienced by the McAleers started their journey of positivity. As they persist in focusing on positivity, they’re experiencing true joy. What a great example and proof that there’s always a reason to see the goodness in life. Dancing Through your Decades: The Benefits of Dance at Any Age! It’s no secret that dancing is good for your body, but did you know that there are benefits that extend far beyond the physical element? From stress reduction to proper poise, brain health to social interaction, a life-long love of dance not only does your body, but your mind a whole lot of good!
dancing can ward off Alzheimer’s disease and other dementia, much as physical exercise can keep the body fit. Dancing also increases cognitive acuity at all ages.
Children who begin dance training at an early age are exposed to a multitude of benefits. In addition to learning rhythm and musicality, children will also improve muscle strength, coordination, balance, flexibility and posture. Young dancers also learn how to interact with their peers and often form lasting friendships.
Sheila Turner, owner of From the Top Studio of Dance, is a life-long resident of Newtown Square who teaches the fundamentals, techniques and performance of dance to youth and adults. To contact Sheila Turner, email: info@fromthetopdance.com. N S
As they move into the adolescent and teen years, dance often provides a “safe space” for them to explore how their emotions can be expressed through movement. They build confidence and self-esteem, learn the importance of posture and eye contact, and gain an overall appreciation of the arts. There is an emphasis on proper technique, appreciating and taking care of your body for optimal performance. And after a successful production, teens can learn how working together as a team in class results in amazing performances. Dance is also a gift that extends far beyond the dance floor. It teaches us the importance of making eye contact, standing tall with smiles on our faces. Dance allows us to feel free to express emotions in front of others and to work hard to achieve a goal.
So, no matter what your age or ability, it’s time you put on your boogie shoes and join the dance party!

The wonderful thing about dance is that its benefits span all decades of our lives. As adults, we tend to forgo our interests to focus on our children, but that is often counter-intuitive. Extensive research has shown that dance enhances our brain function on a number of levels. Two recent studies noted in Psychology Today show how dancers achieve peak performance by blending cerebral and cognitive thought processes with muscle memory held in the cerebellum. Through regular aerobic training that incorporates some type of dance at least once a week, anyone can maximize his or her brain function. Another study by, TAP - The Alzheimer’s Project says that frequent dancing apparently makes us smarter. A major study added to the growing evidence that stimulating one’s mind by

History Spotlight
A Wedding… and Divorce by Doug Humes
The adjoining townships of Marple and Newtown, both sparsely populated farm communities, came together in 1914 to fund and construct a joint high school. The communities celebrated 100 years of that happy marriage in 2014, and a wonderful timeline full of photos and artifacts from those 100 years now lines the hallways of the high school. In 1960, historians in each community proposed a joint historical society as well, and the Marple Newtown Historical Society was formed that year. That marriage had a successful 25 year run, but ultimately ended in divorce years later (a personality clash at the time). Now each community has its own historical society. The Newtown Square Historical Society now concentrates most of its efforts on the historic Paper Mill House and Museum, and events that celebrate the building and the generations of families who have lived there. They host the annual Historic Newtown Square Day (June 1, 2019), and also have monthly speakers on history topics, held at the Township Building; have an archive of local history documents and artifacts; and host a Facebook page and a website, www.HistoricNewtownSquare.org. The original members are all gone; the current members will someday be history too. The only way that community institutions such as this endure is because community-minded people join them, pick up the torch and pass it along to the next generation. Please support your local historical society and help us pay our local history forward to the next generation.

Spring into Spring Cooking Spring brings a wonderful energy, always making its return with excitement. The coming of spring means that some of the best, freshest ingredients will soon be ready and available. A refreshment and vibrance is brought to a dish after working with more hearty and heavy ingredients through the winter months. Some unique spring ingredients include ramps, green garlic scapes, fiddlehead ferns, spring onion, sugar snap peas, fava beans, white asparagus, morel mushrooms, strawberries, and rhubarb, to name a few. Kitchens all over will be busy pickling ramps, making green garlic salt, shelling peas and fava beans, making pastries with fresh strawberries, and serving patioworthy features. Chefs get to experiment with all of these fun spring ingredients in their kitchens, but you don’t need a chef ’s coat to take advantage of these seasonal flavors! A great place to start is seasonal farmers markets. This time of year, weekend farmers markets pop up everywhere from local parks to downtown streets, showcasing the best and freshest ingredients. Visit with an open mind and let the produce inspire your recipes for the week. Once you are stocked with fresh ingredients, consider spring’s favorite cooking tool: the grill. A hard wood charcoal grill gives smoky flavors to seasonal recipes, like chicken thighs seasoned with green garlic salt and a blast of ramp butter… yum. Ready to take on spring cooking? Fire up your grill and prepare the seasonings for this crowd-pleasing seasonal meal.

Step 1: Make the Garlic Salt. Collect approximately 4 bunches of garlic scrapes (the flowering stalk of the garlic plant; about 50 stalks) and roughly chop. Place in a food processor with 2 cups of Kosher Salt and blend until well incorporated, causing the salt to turn bright green. Spread the wet salt out on a sheet tray and place in a low 225° oven. Check every 10 minutes, baking the salt until it is dry. When the salt is cooled, store in airtight containers.
Step 2: Make the Ramp Butter. Begin with 1 pound of cleaned and trimmed ramps. Blanch them in boiling salted water, then quickly place in an ice bath. Finely chop the ramps, and place them in a food processor with 1 pound of unsalted butter and the zest and juice of 1 lemon. Pulse until well blended. (Be careful not to overmix!) Season to taste with salt and pepper. Roll into logs between parchment paper. Store in the refrigerator or freezer. With your homemade toppings prepared, you can quickly sprinkle some of your new garlic salt on chicken thighs, cook them on the grill and serve them with a ramp butter topping. Prepare to wow your guests… and your taste buds! NS

esearch shows that the best time to learn safety techniques for being in and around water is when a child is very young. Knowing that thousands of infants and youngsters drown every year is a scary fact, but it should also be motivating. Infant swim lessons are growing in popularity as the reality and potential dangers of water come into the light. One of the best defenses against tragedy is equipping even the littlest among us with skills and habits that could save their lives.

While the number one precaution will always be never allowing a child near water without vigilant supervision and other traditional lines of defense, such as fences or alarms, there are other measures that parents and caregivers can take to help train a child to be able to help themselves should an accident happen in water.

Infant Swimming
Your home is where you make some of your best memories, and that’s worth protecting. I’m here to help. LET’S TALK TODAY.
Infant swimming classes are not meant to teach a one-year-old to do the perfect backstroke, but more importantly to learn the skills necessary to survive should that child find themselves accidentally in water unattended. Children and infants alike are generally taught to flip over onto their backs, maintain that floating position and breathe through it all. Some programs call this process the self-rescue technique. That basic name really says it all. Children will learn the techniques of swimming, different strokes, etc. as time goes on, but the basics in this type of infant swim environment are really to give children extra time in an emergency. The goals in an infant swim class are to help even an infant learn to do a combination of back floating and swimming to get them to safety and to make each child a problem solver in the water. This ultimately will build confidence in children young and old both in and out of the water. A simple Internet search for infant swim lessons will help you find what is available in your area. NS

Throughout his childhood, he always helped out in the pizza shop his father Alexios Mylonas, owned. Eventually, Dimitri became an employee there. He also spent several years working for his Uncle Gus, who owned a nearby pizza shop. “Uncle Gus influenced me a lot. He had a strong work ethic and always brought in a positive attitude,” Dimitri explained. “He taught me a lot about quality and how to treat people – not just your customers, but your employees too.”
The determined work ethic that passed down through the generations is clearly present at Newtown Square Pizza. Every employee is friendly and focused, with a steadfast commitment to the customer. There’s laughter around the store as people are constantly cooking up something by the pizza ovens or the grill, or having a conversation with the customers. Even new employees quickly feel like part of the family. “We’re a small mom-and-pop shop. We try to treat everyone like family,” Dimitri beamed. “I feel like the business has taken off since we started, and that takes a whole group of committed people.” One customer shared online a story of Newtown Square Pizza’s exceptional service. Their order was delayed during the dinner rush one Friday night, potentially lost in the commotion around the store. The customer called the store back and explained the situation, now nearing the 7pm peak rush. Thirty minutes later, a manager from Newtown Square Pizza arrived at their door with their order in hand, insisting it be on the house.

“Yes, we occasionally make mistakes with our customers,” Dimitri explained. “A mistake is just an opportunity to go the extra mile to make things right. Instead of getting upset or feeling bad, we just do whatever we can do to make it right. That is something I stress to all the employees here.”
Dimitri was eager to speak about each employee on his team and why they are so valued there. He started with Bill Cincotta, a long-time Newtown Square local who has worked for the company longer than Dimitri has owned it. “Bill always comes to work with a positive attitude and a sharp eye for detail,” Dimitri raved. Steve Papadopoulos works there in a prep role. He has worked in the food industry for decades and has held every possible pizza job. Steve’s extensive experience is obvious and greatly valued. “As a 27-year-old trying to learn how to run this business,” Dimitri explained, “I was very lucky to have Steve to lean on. He was always there to listen and give advice. I’ve learned so much from him, more than I could ever repay him for.” Stavros Hotz, who goes by Stav, started working for Newtown Square Pizza at age 21. Dimitri sees a lot of himself and his family in Stav, a young man who moved from Greece to America just two years ago, eager to learn everything he can to succeed. “There was a time when Stav could barely cook a mozzarella stick,” Dimitri laughed. “But now, just a couple years later, he can run circles around everyone here.” Dimitri makes it very clear that he not only appreciates his employees but sees a piece of himself in all of them. Only two generations removed from his father’s small village in Greece, Dimitri has a strong determination to succeed in this business.
There were other options in his life: Dimitri’s parents even insisted he go to school for accounting and then use that degree to get a job with his cousin. But he knew that serving the Newtown Square hometown community with quality pizza and exceptional customer service is in his blood. Home-grown, hardworking small businesses like Newtown Square Pizza are what make Newtown Square such a caring and connected community. NS

When’s the Right Time to
Martella Electric
Upgrade My Electrical System? There are two sets of circumstances that could lead to replacing or upgrading your main electrical system: planned and unplanned. Examples of planned replacements or upgrades include installing a new hot tub or power circuit, renovating a basement or kitchen, or completing a new addition to the home. When considering adding a hot tub, electric car power outlet, or any renovation that will require significant additional electricity, the existing main panel often requires replacement because it’s either overloaded with circuits or the panel is full. Sometimes such renovations require that the home’s electric service be increased to 200amp or even 400amp. Examples of unplanned updates or upgrades to a home’s electrical system are when there has been damage or the system failed inspection. When an unfortunate event like a storm occurs,
the results could be downed power lines on your property and water entering your main panel, causing lights in your home to blink and even total power failure.
Martella Electric Company is a team of courteous, professional, and highly trained electricians. Our priority is to deliver superior customer service backed by a 100% satisfaction guarantee.
Many homes built over 80 years ago have active knob and tube wiring. This is often discovered during an inspection done when someone is considering buying the home. That type of wiring is also often discovered when an electrician is called in to determine why lights in the home suddenly start blinking.

Occasional or frequent electrical malfunctions can be a sign that the electrical panel is under stress or has deteriorated due to chronic overheating of overloaded circuits. When rewiring is required, the main panel must often be replaced. That’s also when upgrading the home’s entire electrical service is required or recommended.

I Want to Quit Every day we are faced with challenges that would be easier to walk away from than to conquer. These challenges are found at home, school, work and other activities. Children begin their martial arts journey for various reasons such as to gain confidence, respect, focus, perseverance or self-defense but when the training gets tough, some want to quit. It can be expected that children may want to quit when things get challenging but learning how to overcome hurdles is vital to growing stronger in life. What is discouraging is that sometimes parents allow their children to quit because they don’t want to “force” them or argue with them to continue. In these instances, the message being sent is that it is okay to quit when something gets tough. Children should not be “forced” to do activities or sports, however, setting a goal and committing to see it through to completion is a life skill that drives success. Commitment is a necessary trait to be successful. Parents should discuss commitment with their children prior to beginning any endeavor, explaining that at times, things get tough and failures may occur but quitting is not an option. This is the time for parents to help their children develop the perseverance to accomplish goals, both short- and long-term. In the martial arts, students make an initial short-term commitment to earn their first few belts, which usually takes between 6 and 9 months. At this time the parent, child and instructor should discuss if continuing and committing to a long-term goal of earning a black belt is the right step. Once this commitment is made, giving up is not an option, not even when things get tough or even encountering failure.
encing failure and loss as this is where you learn how to improve and most importantly how great it feels accomplishing your goals and winning, especially after overcoming obstacles. Discussing expectations about commitment is highly recommended before beginning any activity or sport. Kids need to know that as a parent it is their job is to ensure that they follow through with their commitments. Allowing children to help make decisions is a healthy part of learning autonomy but balance is the key to parenting. Knowing when to encourage, support, or push is crucial to developing strong successful children. NS

Our Community
NSHS Historic Newtown Square Day by Doug Humes
Come celebrate the history of one of William Penn’s first “new towns” in Pennsylvania. Our annual Historic Newtown Square Day includes tours of all of our historic buildings, the grand opening of the Benjamin West gallery at the 1742 Square Tavern, and a scale model of our proposed statue of Benjamin West. There will also be a special tour of the newly restored William Lewis house, other private homes, and a full day of colonial activities and re-enactors. Our 24th annual Historic Newtown Square Day is Saturday, June 1, 2019, with public sites open from 10am - 4pm. Come visit the buildings that have been serving Newtown residents for the last 200 years: the 1711 Newtown Square Friends Meeting, the 1742 Square Tavern, the 1828 Paper Mill House & Museum, the 1842 Hood Octagonal School, the 1860 Bartram Bridge, and the 1895 Newtown Square Railroad Museum.
Display of Benjamin West materials inside Square Tavern
Benjamin West, Father of American Painting: Benjamin West (local artist Terry Jones) will be in residence at the Square Tavern, working on his latest painting, “William Penn’s Treaty with the Indians,” and talking about his boyhood spent at the Tavern, and his development as a painter. Terry has proposed sculpting a life-sized statue of the young West, and has created a scale version to show what he has proposed. We are kicking off the fund-raising necessary to bring Benjamin West back to his boyhood home, in a prominent spot outside the Tavern. Be sure to stop in and see the model and watch the master at work. Step back to the 1700’s and visit the encampment of the 1st Continental Regiment, and Lenape Native American interpreters cooking traditional foods. Enjoy demonstrations in blacksmithing, sheep shearing, basket weaving, wool spinning, and beekeeping. Observe traditional colonial crafts for children and enjoy period music with performer, historian and storyteller Robert Mouland. Inside the Square Tavern – our new Benjamin West Gallery – in place of the bare walls of the Tavern we now have an exhibition of prints of some of West’s most memorable works. Other activities will include an art exhibit, gift shop and period baked goods. This year, no tickets are required. The tours are free (other than the William Lewis House tour), but donations are welcome (donation boxes at the Tavern and Paper Mill House). A program book should be available at each site, with more history on each site. Guides will be available to answer questions. NS

HOW TO CELEBRATE MEMORIAL DAY
By Chelsea Scott
Memorial Day is a federal holiday that always falls on the last Monday in May. It is a day dedicated to the remembrance of those who paid the ultimate price while serving our country. Here are some ways you can celebrate Memorial Day:
• Make red, white and blue crafts with kids.
• Watch the National Memorial Day concert on TV.
• Thank a veteran for his or her service.
• Fly your American flag at half-staff (from sunrise until noon).
• Spend time with family and friends.
• Put flowers on the graves of military personnel.
• Volunteer at a shelter or soup kitchen.
• Pause for the National Moment of Remembrance at 3pm, local time. • Attend your town or city’s Memorial Day parade.
• Visit a veterans’ cemetery near you. • Wear a red poppy; they symbolize remembrance. • Have a BBQ. Before you dig in, go around and say what you’re thankful for. • Watch Memorial Day (movie). • Wear an American flag pin. • If there’s one near you, attend a Memorial Day service.

The 5th Annual Wild Bill Guarnere Golf Outing Written by Craig Whitney Photos provided by Debi Rafferty
The 5th Annual Wild Bill Guarnere Golf Outing and Dinner will be held on Friday, May 31 at the Paxon Hollow Golf Club. In addition to a day of golf, many other fun activities are planned: Speakers, a silent auction and raffle giveaway with some of Bill’s memorabilia, a DJ, and a dinner at the end of the day. All proceeds from this event benefit the Wild Bill Guarnere Memorial Fund, which supports our Veterans and their families both financially and through community education. Wild Bill Guarnere was a World War II Army Veteran who was wounded in action and lost his leg. His story was made famous in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. Bill and his family traveled around the world, meeting celebrities like Tom Hanks, who produced the series. Bill used his fame to give back to other veterans, donating to veteran causes and traveling to hospitals, to give support and advice to soldiers returning from war due to injury. Bill passed away in March of 2014 at age 90. His funeral service was an amazing symbol of the national respect and affection for Bill and his selfless service to his country. Broad Street was closed as well as the entire route down I- 95 to the cemetery in Broomall. Here, he met his final resting place beside his wife, Frances. The procession made its way through Philadelphia with a police escort. Bill’s granddaughter, Debi Rafferty, remembers that day very clearly. “I remember driving by City Hall, with police cars around us,” Debi recounted. “Seeing people standing and saluting with American flags was very humbling and inspiring.”
Bill Guarnere Memorial
Bill’s funeral service inspired Debi to start the Wild Bill Guarnere Memorial Fund. It started as an effort to raise money for a statue of Bill, which now stands at the Delaware County Veterans Memorial. Awed and inspired by the overwhelming support and love from so many people around the world, Debi decided to continue raising money for the causes Bill supported throughout his lifetime and taught his family to also support. The Wild Bill Guarnere Memorial Fund raises money for causes such as: • Alpha Bravo Canine, which raises dogs for veterans with PTSD • The Gary Sinise Foundation, which supports veterans, first responders, and their families • Memorial education at the Delaware County Veterans Memorial. School children come to the Memorial on school trips, to learn about World War II and the veterans memo rialized there. Debi and her father Gene, a Vietnam War Veteran, come to the Memorial often, to speak to the children about Bill. Debi and Gene are again very excited about the May 31 golf outing, which is the organization’s major fundraising event each year. People of all ages are encouraged to participate. It’s a great way to enjoy the start of summer with golf and dinner while also supporting the fund that continues Wild Bill Guarnere’s legacy. For more information, visit www.WildBillMemorial.org or call Debi Rafferty (granddaughter) at 215-389-3094. NS

Newtown Square Homeowner’s Solution For Sewer Tie-In Savings There are TWO OPTIONS for Sewer Tie-Ins with Township Approval 1. Traditional 4" Gravity System
2. Directional Drilling System
Digging Down to The Sewer Main
Underground Horizontal Drilling
Pros • A Gravity System with a clean out, relies on gradually sloping pipelines for downhill sewage flow. • The sewage flows away from the property and into a sewer main, offering peace of mind for many years. Con • Installing a Gravity System will significantly disturb the homeowner’s landscaping.
Pros • A Directional Drilling System is installed by tunneling underground horizontally, under gardens, driveways and other man-made obstacles. • Installation requires far less disturbance of landscaping. Cons • A Directional Drilling System requires a duplex grinder pump with battery backup (in the event of power loss). • Directional Drilling Systems require bi-annual servicing and owner monitoring.
