We are fortunate to live in an area so rich with both history and local businesses that have stood the test of time, businesses like The Niemeyer Corporation, which has been a staple in our community for more than 70 years.

It’s one thing to admire the longevity of a local business, but it’s much rarer to find an employee whose dedication to one company spans half a century! And if you’ve ever stepped foot inside Niemeyers for sales or service of your outdoor power equipment, you know that employee is Jerry Peda.

Last month marked the beginning of Jerry’s 50th year of service to Niemeyers, and he has no plans of slowing down.

This is my home away from home,” Jerry said. “Everyone knows they can find me here six days a week.

Newtown Square has always been home for Jerry. He grew up here and began working at Niemeyers as a teenager while attending Marple Newtown High School.

I was helping my English teacher load boxes of books into her car towards the end of the school year,” Jerry explained. “She asked me what my plans were for the summer. When I said I didn’t have any, she told me to go over to Niemeyers and apply for a job.

Jerry’s teacher knew about the job opening because she was friends with Harry Harvey, who worked as a Controller for Niemeyers. Jerry went over right away and was hired on the spot. When thinking back to that day, Jerry laughed. “Wow, 50 years sure does go by fast!”

A self-described “people person,” Jerry said that when he first started working at Niemeyers, he did whatever was needed.

I’d sweep the floors, unpack deliveries and assist the mechanics,” he explained. “While I was learning about equipment and replacement parts, I discovered that what I loved the most was getting to know the customers.

Jerry said that these days, the third generation of his original customers are coming in the door. “It’s pretty special.”

As the years went by, Jerry worked his way into the sales department. He said that in addition to his customers, he loves to help solve problems and learn about new products with the latest technology.

The newest product these days is the robotic mower,” said Jerry. “It’s amazing that you can mow your lawn using an app on your phone.

Jerry’s dedication to customer service paired with his enthusiasm for mastering products earned him the position of Sales Manager.

Years of experience working and living in this community is how Jerry Peda and a company like The Niemeyer Corporation stays “small” while selling “big.” Owner Karl Niemeyer said that their mission is to offer the latest in parts and products at the best prices, with unparalleled service. Jerry said that the entire team strives to make every customer’s experience both beneficial and enjoyable. And Jerry knows that once you give them a try, you'll be back for more.
