Family Fun This Month at NSPL and NELL

Time to Celebrate!

Last spring’s lockdown definitely put a damper on celebrating the start of our youth softball and baseball seasons. Important milestones were missed, and our fun, festive team parades up Bishop Hollow Rd were canceled. Although we were able to salvage a small part of the season, the sounds of cracking bats, cheering fans and children playing were sorely missed. The good news is that this spring is looking so much brighter!

2020 marked Newtown Square Petticoat League’s (NSPL) 50th anniversary. What started as a piece of farmland back in 1970 has transformed, with the hard work of dedicated volunteers, into four beautifully manicured softball fields. Troop Farm, as we know it today, has grown quite a bit over the years, and is now home to 456 girls on recreational softball teams along with six Rebels travel teams and over 100 coaches.

NSPL will finally be able to celebrate their 50th Anniversary over the course of a weekend, with an All-Star Game on Friday night May 14th. On Saturday May 15th, there will be fun family events and games taking place throughout the day. The festivities will wrap up Sunday with a Skills Competition throughout the different divisions.

We can't wait to celebrate!" said NSPL Board Member Kelly DeLong. "We will be bringing back some veteran NSPL players to throw out first pitches. A lot of work went into planning last year. and we’re excited to finally be able to make it happen!

Be sure to check out their website www.NSPLSoftball.com and like their Facebook page @NSPL for a more detailed schedule closer to the May 14th weekend.

Now, let’s head across the street to find out what’s happening at NELL (Newtown Edgmont Little League). Last month, we told you all about the renovations to the complex. With most of the work complete, it’s time to celebrate with fun for the whole family.

On Saturday, May 22nd (rain date Sunday May 23rd), players, families and friends will gather for NELL Day. It’s a day-long event featuring raffles for cash and prizes, games and activities for all ages, themed gift baskets and a silent auction. Some gift basket prizes include sports memorabilia and game tickets, home and garden decor, spa treatment packages, gift cards galore and more.

We are excited for an incredibly fun and eventful day and welcome families to this year’s 2021 baseball season,” said Daren Grande, President of Newtown Edgmont Little League. “Families will be able to watch baseball all day, spend time doing activities they love with the whole family, and also have the chance to win special prizes throughout the day. We are looking forward to having you join us this year and plan to keep it safe for all of our families.

NELL Day runs from 10am–5pm. Every team in the league will play that day, and there will be a Home Run Derby and several All-Star Games to finish the day. More information and updates about NELL Day can be found by following @NELLBaseball on Facebook or visiting their website www.NELLBaseball.com.
