Written by: Darlene Willman Many people in business look for ways to get business but forget how to use the Laws of Attraction to create business referrals. Taking time to analyze your target market will help you but it’s important to think of the kind of clients you want. The majority of people in any type of sales position are told here are the products or service, now go find some customers. They force you to make 20-30 cold calls each day or even go prospecting door to door. One time in my career in outside sales, I walked from building to building leaving behind my business card and brochures hoping to stumble upon the decision-maker. I actually got stuck in a fire escape one time and almost didn’t get out! Cold calling is the process of bugging people and interrupting their day. The biggest thing to overcome is why should someone actually talk to you and what are your qualifications? They don’t know your area of expertise or credentials and you have to overcome that before they will ever give you their time. I don’t believe in chasing people or tracking them down until they buy something. It’s not necessary. There’s really no need to force anything upon anyone, instead try pulling them to you. If you clearly define the people you want to attract that are completely interested in what you have, you’ll have your phone ringing constantly. Better yet, they might search for you! When you put it out there that you want to work with certain individuals that love what you have, you’ll become a magnet! Believe that the right person will present themselves at the right time and you’ll be amazed at how the law of attraction is in action all the time. 5

What caught my attention was being first in a ground floor company. When does that ever happen? I saw rare opportunity with a “real hope” for something better. It was exciting, but intimidating. I heard that little voice say “What are you waiting for? I now have the chance to not only chance my family’s life, but the lives of so many others.

Missing Piece of the Publishing Puzzle Eventually during the writing of a book the thought appears – Who will read my book? How will I tell them about it? Why am I writing this book? These thoughts begin the sometimes missing piece of the publishing puzzle called marketing. Marketing is “the act of getting a product from manufacturer to consumer.” The author or publisher are the manufacturer and the reader that you have not yet met is the consumer. Who is this “consumer” that you have not yet met? Where is this person – or hopefully group of people – located? How do you find them? From the beginning of the creative process you should begin thinking about the marketing piece of the puzzle. If you are writing a diary or family story designed specifically for your family, as a legacy with no other audience, you know your consumers ̶ you have identified them and the marketing piece of the puzzle is complete. Otherwise you must define your market and develop a plan to reach them. To identify these marketing puzzle pieces you ask yourself, “What are my internal, external, and commercial writing goals?” You don’t need to share these goals with anyone else, yet you must determine their importance to you. There are no wrong answers or wrong reasons for writing a book, but you must determine: • Internal Goals – Am I expressing some truth that no one else sees? Do I have a need to express myself? Why am I driving myself through such a difficult process? Internal goals are things such as fulfillment, joy, or peace of mind. For example, a diary carries very high internal importance while a technical manual carries little to none. On a scale of 1-10, how important are your internal goals for this book? • External Goals – How do I wish to influence my reader? What response am I trying to create in my audience? External goals are what others give you, such as praise, fame, and awards. Usually a diary has little external importance while a novel may have more. Note that this does not necessarily have any commercial implications. Many authors have written exceptional books about social ills and have not received heavy financial compensation. On a scale of 1-10, how important are your external goals for this book? • Financial Goals– Commercial goals are the financial compensation you want to get from your writing. This can be royalties, advances, selling rights, or other forms of compensation. Everyone wants to get rich, and the possibility of lightning striking with any book is there, but realistically determining your financial goals will help you to determine how much of your own money and time you are willing to invest. On a scale of 1-10, how important are your commercial goals for this book? This article is the first in a series of putting that final piece, called marketing, in to the publishing puzzle. Over the years my life has taken many twists and turns and I sometimes wonder how I’ve been able to hold it all together as a wife, mother, military widow, stepmother, business owner, community volunteer and now a Granma. By sharing my experiences I hope to touch others that feel they can’t move forward after life got in the way. At 32 years old I had to deal with the death of my first husband and father of our three children then two months later my baby daughter’s cancer diagnosis. Almost two years later I somehow managed to move across the country to Texas knowing no one. Open an Interior Design business, hold positions with multiple non-profits and run fundraisers. I remarried years later and moved to Germany where I created a school volunteer/fundraising program and ran the military community charity bazaar. After 6 years I abruptly returned to Texas for my daughter to receive a heart transplant. Eventually life once again had some normalcy and my husband and I were able to build a couple successful home based businesses. But then God obviously once again felt I could handle more when my daughter died unexpectedly at 22 years old and 4 years later my marriage ended. After returning to designing and tinkering with a couple MLM’s I soon realized I was lacking my passion. But when I saw a post by a Facebook friend about a new tool that

would help any business using Social Media I knew I had to learn more. After hearing what Social Outbreak can do for the person that is looking to brand themselves or expand a business I realized it was just what I was looking for. I’ve always enjoyed helping people and this allows me to offer products that will assist any business, entrepreneur, non-profit… to be successful with the power to promote their product or service through digital social networking on Facebook. I love Social Outbreak because it is a legitimate opportunity that will allow anyone to make money from the power of Facebook. ‘Social Outbreak’ opens worldwide in August 18 and it is Social Media at its finest. Consultants offer a brilliant application integrated in Facebook for any business. Total Social Media System includes Customized Sidebars, Fan Pages, Auto Responders, Lead generation, Video Email with industry templates, Video Conferencing with document download, Mobile App, QR... Networking and new technology will allow me to travel the world to educate people and businesses on the importance of Social Media and Social Outbreak. Knowing your “WHY” and having a passion for the products or services you’re offering can equal success.

As I sat here in awe of being asked to write a column there were so many things running through my mind on where to start and what I would bring to this wonderful publication, Be the Boss Magazine. Before I go on, I am going to give my best piece of advice, that I will spend time on in future issues, but have to discuss it NOW. You need to surround yourself with positive, influential, brilliant and powerful people. I have never met Shelly or Margie, who have pulled together this incredible publication, but I have talked, networked and learned so much about them and built a solid relationship, that has brought this opportunity to me. This is KEY in building any business, be it traditional or network marketing. It is very hard at all stages, getting started, building, maintaining or during a transitional period. If you do not have these kinds of people around you, it will be a much harder journey. If you do not bring value to their lives it is very lonely. The next thing was to pick a name for the column, which came very easily to me, because for me the most important thing is to be close to my kids. This comes with it challenges and I look forward to sharing with everyone. I also would like to share a little bit about who I am. I am Marla, a mom of 4 beautiful children, ages 3-10. We live near Toronto, Ontario, Canada. I have always been an entrepreneur starting with a small biz where I made tie-dyed casual wear in university, as well as other part-time ventures over the years. I worked for 17 years with adults with brain injuries, from personal, recreational and job support. I have always loved to help others and when the opportunity arose once again to have my own business, I jumped on it. The kids always came first, and working from home was really important to me. 18

Between Facebook, Linkedin, Google+, Twitter, and the in person networking groups/events that you participate in, chances are you are connected with hundreds if not, thousands of people, but how well do you really know them? Most of us spend a lot of time, energy and money networking but how much time to you devote to truly getting to know your connections? Do you know details about their businesses? Do you know what their needs are? Do you know who their ideal referral is? Have you visited their websites? Have you had any one-on-one time with them? If you call them will they even know who you are? The more you know about your connections, the better source of information and referrals you can be to them. The more you help others, the more they will want to help you. Ask yourself, do you really know who you know? If not, take a little time and learn about your connections. This is the key to building a strong, solid network that you can count on.

I got into this business by way of, what else, networking! I was working in sales at a print company, and unfortunately, my boss had the business sense of a sea lion and insisted on running things like it was 1995. I was frustrated and unhappy with the outdated and overpriced options I could offer to clients. However, part of MY marketing strategy to get new business was networking. I was a member of four area Chambers of Commerce, and two other business networking groups. It was there I met Larry, who represented a company making machines that produce alkaline antioxidant water. Now, no offense to any other MLM or network marketing organization. However, as I’d been a sales professional for 10 years, I had been propositioned by anyone and everyone to sell their product/service: All of the health pills, all of the health drinks in a bottle, all of the legal services, all of the credit card processing systems, the list goes on and on. Something about this water business struck a nerve with me though. I had done some research about giving your body a more alkaline base to help fight off disease. When I found out that this company produces a medical grade, alkaline, anti-oxidant rich water, I was intrigued. I further discovered that these machines, made in Japan, are the only water iozner on the market actually listed as a medical device by Japan’s version of the FDA. I have more belief in this product and what it can do for ones health, as well as income, than anything I have ever sold. We let our prospects try the water for FREE for 30 days. What other product lets you sample their goods for a month? Call our weekly conference calls to listen to the extraordinary health and wealth testimonials from people all over the country. We truly believe this to be the best water on the planet. And we do not want anyone to buy a machine that does not experience life altering results. Our compensation plan is patented. There are no “binary” legs or anything else you have probably encountered upon a meeting with other MLM’s or network marketing. We do not ask you to make a list of 30 people who have thousands of dollars to invest in a “new business opportunity.” How do you get started? Buy a machine for yourself. Experience what it can do for you. And then, GIVE the water away, for FREE. We cannot, and will not, charge for this. Share this water with as many people as you can. Your results will come back to you ten fold. 21

Myth: Breast cancer always comes in the form of a lump. Reality:Â A lump may indicate breast cancer (or one of many benign breast conditions), but women should also be on the alert for other kinds of changes that may be signs of cancer. These include swelling; skin irritation or dimpling; breast or nipple pain; nipple retraction (turning inward); redness, scaliness, or thickening of the nipple or breast skin; or a discharge other than breast milk. Breast cancer can also spread to underarm lymph nodes and cause swelling there before a tumor in the breast is large enough to be felt. On the other hand, a mammogram may pick up breast cancer that has no outward symptoms at all. Source: Health.com Check www.Health.com for 24 more myths vs. realty facts on breast cancer.

Breast Cancer is Not just a Women’s Disease Anymore!

Hello, my name is Laurie Wrye Sullivan and I am here to tell you that Breast Cancer is not only a woman’s disease, it does affect Men! I know personally as my Grandfather and Father both died of Male Breast Cancer (MBC). We also have, on my father’s side, my Aunt and grandmother who have breast cancer. My Aunt has had a double mastectomy and uterine cancer (she is a carrier of the BRCA2 gene) and her son is a carrier of the gene as well, so he is being watched at the High Risk Breast Clinic at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I do not have the BCRCA2 gene but there is some gene that has not been identified being passed down on my father’s side of the family. My female cousin and I have talked about having a Prophylactic mastectomy but now she is just about ready to schedule it. Doctor’s need to be educated in MBC and the fact that even if you have BC on your paternal side of the family and not on your maternal side of the family the genes are still being passed down.

have to be well to take care of him so he waited to go to the doctor for treatment or even tell mom until 5 months after he noticed his crusty nipple. By the time he went to the doctor it had already spread to the lymph nodes under his arm. The symptoms are the same as they are for women but because there is not as much tissue on a man as a woman it can spread a lot faster in a man. The American Cancer Society estimates men to have a five-year survival rate of 97 percent 98 percent when breast cancer is caught in the very early stage. The survival rate drops to 14 percent when the disease is discovered in the most advanced stage.

Plexus Pink has a Breast Health Check kit and Breast Cream that I personally think every home should have one. Every doctor’s office should have them available to their patients. This product helps find lumps and bumps sooner than later. It has fingertip magnification by magnifying it 5 times so you can feel the small lumps. I saw this on The Doctors Television show demonstrating it on a male mannequin. It gave validity to the company and I knew this company was going places if it 1) knew about male breast cancer and talked about it on The Doctors Television show and 2) It was on the cutting edge to have a product like the Breast Health Check kit. You can see the clip at http://www. plexuspink.com/laurie. Dr. Spencer’s Breast Cream isAll Natural Cream to massage into the breast to help keep the lymphatic fluids flowing to help prevent cysts from forming. It contains Spirulina Algae (detoxifier), Aloe Vera, Bulgarian Rose & French Lavender. It also helps with Shingles, Moles, Skin Tags, Sunburn, Eczema, Poison Ivy & Oak, Burns and more. Breast Health Exposed is a wonderful book. Great Read! 21 Secrets most Doctors will never tell you! Must have book!

Six Things To Consider Before Buying An Investment Property

Needless to say this is very close to me and I am very passionate about Breast Cancer Awareness and especially Male Breast Cancer Awareness. But for some reason the media and medical professionals keep it quiet. I have been shouting from the rooftops since 1983 (the year my grandfather died) and especially since 2002 (the year my father died) ….but no one listened. Oprah didn’t listen, Ellen didn’t listen, none of the talk show hosts listened when it came time for the Breast Cancer shows….but they sure would put on those makeover shows in a heartbeat! I can go on and on. Breast Cancer is very rare in men, about 1in 1,000 but you need to make sure your husband, father, grandfather, brother, son, etc. knows how to do a self-breast exam (as well as your daughters). The one cancer my brothers thought they didn’t have to worry about they now need to get mammograms if they want to make sure there is nothing going on.

Don Wrye 7-21-1934 – 7-18-2002

Dad had a modified radical mastectomy and several lymph nodes removed in May 2000. Nine of the lymph nodes were cancerous. Dad’s cancer spread from his breast to his lungs and then to his brain. The chemotherapy had destroyed his kidneys so he was on dialysis during his battle with breast cancer. Once it spread to the brain all treatment was stopped. Dad died on July 18, 2002 at 67 years of age. His 68th birthday was July 21st which was when his wake was. I personally have had several benign tumors removed in both breasts but they watch me very closely, now, at the Vanderbilt High Risk Breast Clinic. I have thought about having a Prophylactic Breast Removal. My Dad pretty much knew he had Breast female cousin is scheduled for one this Cancer (since his father died of it) November. but mom was recovering from a mild I tell this story, in short form, because stroke and he knew she was going to

If you are in the medical profession these kits would be wonderful to have available to your patients. You can do fundraisers with them for Breast Cancer, just get in touch with me and I will tell you how to do that (trypinkdrink@gmail.com), but you should have at least one in every home. Just think of the lumps/bumps that you can find with this way before the doctor ever will…..gosh just think…what if you don’t have this and you have that lump/bump sitting in you for a few years? Isn’t a few dollars’ worth it? If it could save your husband’s life by finding it sooner, isn’t it worth it? If the Breast Cream helps keep the lymphatic fluids flowing to help prevent cysts from forming… isn’t it worth it? If it would bring my grandfather and father back……I just wish I had this back then. Everyone with breasts, big or little, needs these products. Thank you for listening and I wish you all good health,

Developing a Social Media strategy that works Q: I’ve been using Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn for the promotion of my business for the last year.

not made any sales as the result of social media. What am I doing wrong?

I’ve

A: The primary function of social media is the development of relationships.

Social media marketing requires consistent and regular interaction that provides value to your connections. Some points for you to ponder in reviewing your current social media strategy: 1. Are you developing relationships, or do most of your social media posts revolve around advertising your business? Social media offers the opportunity to truly become acquainted with your target market. Post polls, surveys and open-ended discussion topics that encourage interaction with your connections. 2. Do your posts provide value to your connections? Social media is an excellent opportunity to set yourself apart from your competitors by establishing yourself as an expert in your field, and providing information that’s useful to your connections. Become an expert in an untapped niche. Post articles, photos, videos and links that are meaningful to the target market of your business. 3. How often are you posting? There are many viewpoints regarding the appropriate number of social media posts a business should publish on a daily basis. I believe that posts of value, spread throughout the day, keep businesses at the forefront of reader’s minds. Twitter’s microblogging format allows for a greater number of posts throughout a 24-hour period. The Facebook news feed, however, is more personalized, as it’s only available to your connections. The use of an automated post application will ensure that your posts are evenly spaced throughout each day. Check out online applications HootSuite, TweetDeck or SocialOomph. 4. Do you utilize an editorial calendar and social media marketing plan? Planning and organizing topics for your social media posts will be a time-saver and keep your posts focused on those areas of information important to your target market. 5. Ultimately you do have to implement sales closing techniques. You have to ask for the sale. Once a day on Facebook, perhaps 2-3 times per day on Twitter, include a post that focuses on exactly what goods or services your business provides. Let prospects know how to get in touch with you. Include a “Call now.” or “Schedule your appointment today!” line. Social media can be an excellent marketing tool for every business. But it’s not a be all-end all; it’s a tool. Social media should be utilized in conjunction with other forms of marketing as part of your overall marketing strategy.

Why Narrowing Your Niche Boosts Your Business It is counter intuitive but narrowing your niche and specifically targeting a smaller demographic will actually boost your business. A classic mistake that new business owners make is using a scattershot approach. You may have a product/service that could benefit everybody - but thinking your target market is “people” or “women” is guaranteed to leave you frustrated and exhausted. The problem with targeting everybody is that you don’t know where to focus your marketing efforts. People are everywhere but how can you get your message out to everyone everywhere? Instead, create a very clear picture of your ideal client and focus your efforts on marketing your products/services only to your ideal client. Others may want to buy from you, but those folks will just be a bonus. Your time, energy, and marketing dollars should be spent wording your marketing message to address the problem that your ideal clients want solved, and finding where your ideal clients naturally congregate so you can easily get your message in front of them. Work on developing a crystal clear picture of your ideal client. Two famous coaches have told me that I have the clearest “who” they have ever heard. Here is what I say, “I work with mid-career professionals

out of professional services, financial services, or technology. To me, mid-career means ages 35-55, manager to SVP.” In 10 seconds do you know who I work with? I benefit from sticking to this definition because I know how to best spend my time. I know what networking events I should attend and I know what organizations I should pitch for speaking gigs. I walk away from opportunities that don’t fit exactly (even though I might have been able to get a client). I once did an ad campaign on LinkedIn where I targeted professionals with manager or senior manager titles at five specific companies living in five states. I have one of former client who I consider my ideal client. When I write anything or am developing future products or services, I ask myself what she would want. I use her as the lens through which I see my business. You might want to try this. Catherine Morgan is a Transition and Entrepreneur Coach, and the founder of Point A to Point B Transitions Inc. Putting the Horse Before the Cart Written by: Bob New Recently I decided to buck the trend and move from a home office to a small office in town. I know, most people are working hard to do the opposite, but just indulge me for a moment. I am a senior partner with Linton-Cole Associates. One of our main business services are web pages and web consulting. While most of the work can be accomplished in my home office, I do have to meet with clients. Most of my meetings thus far have taken place in the client’s office so I can see their operation and get a feel for their business. Some have been at a local coffee shop, but sometimes these can be noise and not so private. A few I have used one of the small meeting rooms our local public library provides for free. I also have a friend who has an IT consulting business in a town about 40 minutes or so away. Lately he has picked up a few clients here and spends a couple of days a week here. He also was looking for an office space. So we decided to split the cost and rent a small two room office. One room we are putting in a couple of desks and the other an informal conference room. We found a great deal from a friend who owns a small office complex and had just the place vacant. We thought we were set. WRONG. We failed to do our homework before renting the office. Since we both are going to be heavy internet users we should have checked on service available to that area. It is less than we would have liked but we ended up with a fair price. Luckily we are not running our own servers from there. If you are looking to open an office, here are a few bullet points we found that we should have checked before renting. • Make a list of critical services you will need. Phone, internet, cable, electric and water. • Check with each provider of those services and see what is available. Just because you have high speed cable internet at home doesn’t mean business class is available in your new office. • Remember that business services are more expensive than residential and require a bigger deposit. • After you have all the services lined out, then go to the landlord and sign your lease. We were lucky as we are just doing light work from this office, and we did get the property for a month to month contract with no long term lease. Should we decide to upgrade we can move to another complex and transfer most of our utilities. A little homework before you climb into the cart can save you a lot of headaches down the road. Hi. Thank you for this interview. My name is Danielle Mohr and I am a Mompreneur with SendOutCards. SendOutCards is the #3 greeting card company behind the known storefronts and is affectionately considered the Netflix of the Greeting Card world. All joking aside, this six-year old company can lay claim to making the Inc 500 list of one of the fastest growing companies since 2009. SendOutCards has removed the inconvenience and expense from sending cards and gifts while creating an opportunity to immediately act on a thought or feeling for personal or business relationships. SendOutCards’ mission is to change lives…one card at time. After an introduction like that you might be asking “how do we change lives and businesses?!” Our answer is usually visual as one of us would walk you thru the SendOutCards system on your computer via our website. Trying to put the details of SendOutCards in print is a challenge, however, I would have you ask yourself these questions: (1) “Do you buy greeting cards or gifts? (2) Do you know anyone who buys greeting cards or gifts? (3) “Would you like to make money on the cards and gifts you and others send?” When we answered all these questions for my family, our answer was YES! When my husband & I signed up for SendOutCards, we joined with different intentions. I saw the relationship/care factor, while my husband saw the investment potential. In addition, we agreed that because SendOutCards had No Inventory, No Home Parties and No Monthly Quotas, it was a winning opportunity for our family. Speaking of family, we are blessed to have three boys who are the center of our world. Send Out Cards has given us that opportunity to be more focused on providing quality time & experiences together as a family and by changing our lives… one card at time. When given the chance to walk you thru SendOutCards, you will see how easy it is to send personalized “real” cards in your handwriting, your signatures and your photos from your computer in minutes. SendOutCards then prints, stamps and sends it to a mailbox across town or across the country. SendOutCards is providing opportunities for our family that once were a dream; may we pay-it-forward to you. Wishing you Mohr Possibilities!

Be Your Own BOSS Written by: Alice Schmitt

Working from home is fun! I decide how I work, how much I work, who I work with and I can “Be the Boss!” Jim Collins, who wrote “Good to Great” says that ordinary individuals can achieve economic success with Direct Sales and that is what I have done! For over twenty years I enjoyed being a stay at home mom. Those are days I loved and will always treasure. However, my children grew up quickly and before I knew it, my youngest was off to school! It was at this time I tried a skin care product called Kara Vita. From the very first day I used Kara Vita I knew that it was different. Because Kara Vita has a patent on its “delivery system” (it does not sit on top of your skin, it penetrates into the deeper layers) and Kara Vita is made with pure pharmaceutical-grade bioactive ingredients, we can guarantee results within two weeks of using our products! I decided that I would sign up to sell Kara Vita because I loved the product and thought it would be great to get a discount! I was not going to “sell” Kara Vita because I was not a “salesperson”. However, I HAD to start sharing Kara Vita with others when I started understanding the integrity that went into making our products. The testimonials I received from those that were using Kara Vita were amazing! This and the results I saw in my own skin made me passionate about sharing. 36

Sharing Kara Vita made me realize how much I enjoyed meeting others! I saw that women trusted me and I realized how successful I am at connecting with other women. Soon I had a team of about 100 women working with me. Sharing Kara Vita with others made my heart happy! It was always important to me to help others. Kara Vita has given me the opportunity to help so many with eczema, psoriasis, acne, and sun damage. I help women STOP aging! I am excited about offering this opportunity to others. It is fun to watch consultants soar with confidence as they work their Kara Vita business. It is great to “Be Your Own Boss”. Tax laws have changed making home based business a great savings to you because of substantial deductions you can claim. My husband lost his “secure” job and my Kara Vita Business helped us through a scary time. My business continues to grow. I would say that is because I do not believe I am “selling” anything. I am sharing a wonderful present with others. I speak from my heart and find others respond to that. I have had to step out of my comfort zone and try new things like networking. When you network it is not about “selling” your product. It is more about being genuine and authentic, and building relationships. It was through networking that I met Shelly Rice - the Referral Machine. And it was Shelly who asked me to be on the cover of this magazine! I have also been awarded many trips, a cruise for my whole family, jewelry, incentive cash, beautiful purses, computer, and diamonds. People have asked me to explain my success. Our President Deborah Duffey once quoted Conrad Hilton. He said, “Success seems to be connected with action. Successful people keep moving. They make mistakes, but they don’t quit. They just keep moving.” I have made more than my share of mistakes, but I keep moving and my business keeps growing!

Dictionary.com defines CREDIBILITY as the quality of being believed or trusted. That seems easy enough, but definitions tend to become muddled in this age of dime-a-dozen divas, gurus, and experts. What exactly is credibility? More importantly, how can you get it? I am known as THE Inventory Expert’ and believe me, that did not happen overnight I have found five factors that consistently describe the most successful and credible people. These factors can help build credibility in the eyes of clients, competition, and business associates. Ethics - There is no way to skirt or avoid ethics. There are no short cuts in the ethics department. If something feels wrong, it probably is WRONG. Avoid gray areas every time. Discover what you stand for and what you believe, and don’t waver from your position. Always be ready to defend your position even when it’s not the most popular. Time & Consistency- Credibility is not something that just happens after a few strategic Tweets, snappy articles, or witty blog entries. Credibility is earned through time and consistency. It cannot be bought, traded, or manufactured. Even in this constant-input world, people need to see that you are genuine; and this only comes with time and there are no free passes. Connect - Don’t just chat; REALLY connect with people. Return phone calls and emails promptly and BE GENUINE. It’s better to make one genuine connection than 100 surface introductions. Friends - Whether it’s fair or not, people judge you by your friends, both on- and off-line friends. Be very careful what you post and who you post to or about. Privacy settings only go so far. Always assume that your most conservative client will have full access to your Facebook and Twitter streams - it happens more than you know so don’t take chances. Who Are You? - In my profession, people and organizations regularly submit fake testimonials for themselves and false complaints about their competitors. What a silly waste of time! Be genuine, be open, and let people know who you are and where you stand and before you know it, you will gain credibility. These seem basic but as entrepreneurs, we often lose sight of the critical basics. No matter how busy you are, you must always be “consciously credible” and take steps to make sure you are consistently above reproach. Remember the MOST IMPORTANT QUESTION: “How can I help you today?”

Some Networking Do’s and Don’ts Written by: Mark Werner

So, you’ve recently started a business, joined a sales team, or signed up with a MLM company. Good for you. Now how to promote that business? Managers and up-lines will tell you to network, network, and network! Networking is great, and over the years I’ve picked up some great tips, as well as seen some other not so great things I’d like to share with you. First off, the Don’ts: 1) Be on your cell phone the whole time: Ok, honestly, I know, texting and checking Facebook on your smart phone is addicting. It’s also rude. Turn it off when you walk in. Or, leave it in your car if you can not be trusted. 2) Disrespect the time limit given for your infomercial. As much as you think people care about the name of your first hamster and your favorite color and what you were doing back in 1987…no one does. I promise. 3) Don’t pester a prospect to death. A “no” isn’t a “no” forever; it might just be a no for right now. But keep on messing with them, for that “7 points of contact” rule that some managers like to insist upon, and I can promise you, it will be a no forever, or they will just avoid you entirely. Now for the Do’s: 1) Do be interested in who you are talking to: That means coming up with interesting questions instead of just smiling and nodding when they tell you their name and company. Try “Who would you need to meet in this room that could really help take your business to the next level, and why?” 2) Move around! Make it a point to talk to as many people as possible. Sit at new tables when the meeting begins. Don’t know anyone? Get to the event early. Stand at the entrance. People will have to talk to you that way. 3) Have good business cards: Ok, before I get a big “duh”, hear me out. I used to sell these things when I worked at a print company, and it amazes me how many are so lame. Get a good logo/designer. Make sure the stock is thick. And this is important: 1 side can be glossy; the other needs to be matte, so you can write on it. After all, you will have left your cell phone in your car Texty McTexterson, and you will want to write down some quick notes about your prospects and vice versa. Happy Networking! 39

What an incredible journey this has been so far....and the best is yet to come! My background could not be any further from Network Marketing. For 17 years I worked with adults with acquired brain injuries. I loved my work, but it was extremely draining, all my patience was consumed during work hours, little time with my kids and husband, crazy commutes into the city, and overall not very happy. MY FAMILY IS MY WHY!!!! Three years ago I was finishing up a maternity leave, and doing a comparison of the cost of child care vs. staying at home, plus I just wanted to be the one to raise my kids. That is when I joined MXI. I was intrigued by the idea to work the business part-time from home, but still went back to work...Pregnancy for baby number #4 was exceptional since I was consuming healthy chocolate regularly. No pain or numbness that I had experienced previously. I had a strong personal testimonial, and was very passionate that I wanted to share this with every pregnant woman, and the rest of the world. I had decided to take a serious look at the business side since I would be in debt going back to work with the cost of child care, and then life got in the way. Roughly a year ago I started to focus on this. It was the best business decision I could have made for myself and my family, and have not looked back. There are many wonderful people in this business but I am very fortunate to have an incredible team by my side, who do this business with integrity and heart. When they say 90% of the people you will build your business with, you do not know yet...this is the absolute truth. Some of my closest friends I have met through my healthy chocolate business. I am very grateful everyday for all of the people who have touched my life and worked closely with me.

It seems that we all know someone who has been diagnosed with cancer or who was touched in another way by cancer. October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and we are holding a fundraising event combined with a photo contest, through the end of October 2011. Its very easy to participate and a percentage of the $5 entry fee will be donated to The Breast Cancer Research Foundation. We are calling this, the Flawless Beauty Contest. It is a contest where you share your inner and outer beauty and I would especially like to invite cancer survivors to enter. Please do not worry about being “flawless”. Part of our beauty is those “flaws” we all have. Let’s celebrate life and the flaws that make us the individuals we are. There is a $5 fee when you submit a picture and we give you an MP3 by Jon Raven and 2 digital books about relationships – as a gift for entering. Each participant has the chance to win a 75 carat diamond necklace, a 30 carat diamond bracelet or one of our 8 prize packages. In addition to these gorgeous prizes – you have the opportunity to help a great cause. To enter - go to http://www.jonravencontest.com and click “Enter Contest”. Its good to get in early because the 10 people with the most votes will be our finalists. We are also asking for people to help us get the word out about the contest and the great organization we are working to help. On my blog, I am sharing various articles about love and relationship topics - and during September and October, I’ll share some about breast cancer. Please feel free to check my blog for more information - http:// www.lovecoachjourney.com Together we can do great things for the brave people who are doing research to fight breast cancer. This is a short video we put together about the event - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2qkS9ZtcPI Nikki Leigh
