Here is an update about the four families we are helping to settle here in Westchester.

• The Ghafoor family celebrated five years in the U.S. Not only is Mahnaz catering, but she is now a seamstress for a local men’s store. Mosawer (8) follows his big brother in being a soccer star. Who knew that an 8 year old could be recruited! And Fardin is moving up in the commercial real estate business.

Fardin passed his American Citizenship Test on December 20. He will become the first American Citizen that ICNAW assisted with settlement.

• The Ghafoori family celebrated their one-year anniversary in Westchester. Farhad was rewarded for his hard work at Danon by being given additional responsibilities. We are happy to report that Farhad and his family all have Green Cards now.

• Sadia, Nabil, and Khujesta are all finishing a semester of coursework at Westchester Community College and working on next steps in planning for college. Khujesta is now working at J Crew as well!

• The Ghafoori family are watching with wonder as Yasna comes home from The Learning Center preschool (Memorial Methodist Church in WP gifted her a full scholarship) with all the new things she is learning. At the fall parents teachers conference her teacher told Haida how much they love her and how well she is doing.

Support comes in many forms: money, of course, but time to share simple family events with a refugee family or your particular skills in areas like education, finance, business or real estate. We all have much to offer these families.

And save the date! Join us on Saturday, March 4, at 9 am, for Refugee Shabbat.

We hope we can count on your help.

REFUGEE ASSISTANCE: in need of learning toys for 18-24 months

It's time to clean out your toy box! Some of our refugee families are in need of manipulative toys such as knob puzzles, shape toys, blocks, large Lego blocks, etc.

If you can donate anything, please send a picture of the toy to lilrhodie@gmail.com to avoid duplication. We will arrange to pick up any donations from you.

Thanks for your support. The Refugee Assistance Committee
