Dear Friends: Welcome to autumn at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts. Thank you for choosing to spend this special time of year with us and thank you for your support throughout the past decade. As we reflect on the past, we remember how far we’ve come and how excited we are to spend this season and many more with you. Together, we will inspire, educate, and empower through the arts and humanities. Fall is a time of homecoming and reunion, when families and friends gather to reminisce and make new memories together—festival season at Bethel Woods is the perfect place to do that. Our diverse range of festivals brings the community together to celebrate the region’s bounty and splendor. This year THE HARVEST FESTIVAL at Bethel Woods returns for its 18th season on AUGUST 28, featuring an exciting, new partnership with the Hudson River Exchange. Nothing compliments the incredible fall foliage better than the colorful sounds coming from our grounds. From blues to the beloved BRADSTAN CABARET SERIES, this fall the intimate Event Gallery will be filled with music, uniting diverse audiences through a common love and appreciation for the arts. The Conservatory will be bursting will laughter and learning as we present programs like PROJECT: IDENTITY and SATURDAYS AT THE WOODS which explore creativity and freedom of expression, ensuring that a love of the arts and humanities are passed on to our youth. During such a telling time in history it is important that we reflect on the ideals of the 1960s—human fellowship, equal rights, and civic activism. We encourage neighbors, friends, teachers, and visitors from near and far to explore our Museum and our stages. Whether visiting our current special exhibit, or being engaged by thought provoking discussions at our WOODSTALK: LIVE events, it is important we share our voice and never stop learning. We thank you again for joining us to enjoy the magic of Bethel Woods and we hope you will return soon. Please keep in mind ticket sales generate only a fraction of the funds necessary to present our community with such a diverse range of events, performances, and learning opportunities. We invite you to learn more about how you can contribute to the sustainability of our historic site, as a donor, sponsor, member, or volunteer. Our growth and impact on our community is dependent on your continued support. Thank you and enjoy. Sincerely,
Darlene Fedun Darlene Fedun

Bradstan Cabaret Series Kicks Off September 17 The BRADSTAN CABARET SERIES is set to return to Bethel Woods’ Event Gallery this fall, with a variety of outstanding performers hitting the stage throughout September, October and November. The fourth-annual event has become a local favorite, as it upholds the rich tradition of cabaret found in the heart of the Sullivan County Catskill Mountains. The series begins SEPTEMBER 17 with a performance by LEE LESSACK and JOHNNY RODGERS, who will re-create Simon & Garfunkel’s famous New York City Central Park Concert of 1981. Far from a simple impersonation, Lessack and Rodgers are revisiting the duo’s magical music and performance that made this concert so special.
Beautiful: The Carole King Musical. Spector will also share intimate stories from his time as a young performer, when he launched his career at the age of nine with a role in Les Miserables, along with the trials and tribulations that came on his journey back to Broadway in adulthood. Emmy Award-winning actress and Tony nominee LIZ CALLAWAY is also set to perform on NOVEMBER 19. She made her Broadway debut in Merrily We Roll Along, and later received a great deal of critical acclaim for her performance in Cats. In addition to her bustling Broadway career, Callaway is also a successful recording artist, singing the Academy Award-nominated song “Journey to the Past” for the movie Anastasia.

IDENTITY PROJECT:
APHY PHOTOGR
You Can Help Change a Life Meet the teenagers of PROJECT: IDENTITY. Last spring, nearly two dozen 14-18 year-olds gathered to learn the basics of digital photography. Over the course of 11 weeks, they learned a whole lot more. Friendships and trust developed, and positive supportive dialogue resulted. There are many more teens out there and each has a different story. Some struggle to express their innermost thoughts or feel like they don’t fit in. Project: Identity is just one of many Bethel Woods programs that focuses on creativity and collaboration to build self-confidence, a sense of wellbeing, and ultimately engage young and old in their community. Bethel Woods counts on the generosity of visitors like you to help fund these life
changing programs that empower and educate people of all ages. Your support is critical to the sustainability of the Center’s efforts as they work to expand arts and humanities programming like Project: Identity. To learn more, visit BethelWoodsCenter.org/ProjectIdentity.

THIS MUSEUM IS FOR
EVERYONE! Bethel Woods Center for the Arts received a phone call a few weeks ago from a man who wanted to point out a mistake in one of the exhibits. He explained that he was the right age to have been at Woodstock but that he really wasn’t a fan—other events of 1969 just made a bigger impression on him. In pointing out the incorrect information about the early Broadway career of one of the Woodstock performers (which was accurate and corrected), he had to insist that he and his husband were completely unprepared for how much they would enjoy The Museum and the historic site.
His story is not uncommon. People are always calling, writing, or commenting to volunteers how much they have enjoyed The Museum’s story of the sixties and the Woodstock festival. And it isn’t just the Baby Boomers who are saying so. The guest books in the main exhibit and the special exhibit downstairs are filled with testimonials from people of all ages, backgrounds, and home countries. Museum guest, Patti, commented that the museum was “awesome! A total mic drop!!” Another guest, 28-year-old A. Cruz told us that he “always wanted to make it here! I made it here with my grandparents. We all loved it! Can’t wait to come back with my friends.” continued...

The Museum and the engaging interactives, films, and artifacts also offer something for families, as Mark, Dee, and Matt can attest: “Awesome to share this with our 16-year-old son who is an awesome guitarist.” Susan from Cortland, New York, stated that “all students need to see this museum…to know what is truly possible when people come and work together. Love this place.”
Echoing that sentiment, Jenna wrote, “I did not expect to feel so emotional visiting this place, but I did, and I loved it. Thank you for recognizing what Mysteryland means to our generation and allowing us to use this perfect special place!” And Wildflower wrote, “granddaughter and I had a great time.”
If you haven’t visited The Museum at Bethel Woods, plan to spend the day with friends and family. Experience the Woodstock People from across the globe share in the festival in the context of the decade that enthusiasm. Nik, from Boroda, Gujarat, created it. Explore the special exhibitions, India wrote that The Museum at Bethel the outdoor sculpture, and the historic site. Woods was the “1st stop on my 48 state road trip 2016. Totally worth it!” Réka told us that “it was an amazing tour back to the past. I come from Hungary and today I was able to feel something of ‘the American dream.’ It touched me greatly. Thank you.”

IT’S A WINTER WONDERLAND FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY SATURDAY & SUNDAY • DECEMBER 3 & 4 • 11 AM – 4 PM Be of good cheer and join us in the winter wonderland that is the annual HOLIDAY MARKET at Bethel Woods Center for the Arts on DECEMBER 3 and 4. The fireplaces will be roaring and the Market Sheds will be decorated with fresh greenery, with the sounds of seasonal music in the air. This is the perfect local setting to bring your friends and shop for those special people on your holiday list.
This FREE community event also includes family art activities, a visit from Santa and a very special guest, and music performed by local youth. After photos with Santa and his elves, grab a ticket for the Flicks presentation of the classic holiday film Miracle on 34th Street inside the cozy Museum Theater to round out the day of holiday cheer.
