DESIGN STUDIO GAMMA

DESCRIPTION

Mapping + Analysis: Urban Ecology, Landscape, Place, Dwelling Melbourne is an multiple and integrated urban- suburb form which provide people and species to live. Among them, there are different systems to manage urban to achieve harmony and unity. Among them, our team mainly analyzed the areas of seg4 and 8 of carlton's mac Arthur square from three partsbuilt, ecological and civic. My work is studying building systems including building types, forms and specific space arrangement in buildings. According to the study, I produced framework with collage style to come up with the thinking of basic living form in Carlton.

LIVING NEIGHBORHOOD Assignment 2 is mainly about finding the connection between neighbors through intensify and densify. We should design several massing components and detail each of them and find the relationships of how we deal with density in cities with houses. Wit h more ecological thinking, we should add eco systems including biodiversities into the site and to make sure that the combination between living and environment are keeping balance

LIVING HOUSE The ecosystem could be interpenetrated in each functional area, including independent growth and human intervention to form different biodiversity. The transition space is used to connect each region to form in between space. According to this idea, I create a space that can be created by using emotional thinking and rational thinking. Biology is perceptual and its function is rational. Sensibility makes people closer to ecological nature, while rationality makes space more reasonable

WEEK 3 Task

HOUSE House

Outter area- Yard Create integration between outer and inner area. The yard provides enough outdoor space for children and people rest

Inner area- kitchen The kitchen area has two areas, providing public and communication of family and visual permibility through whole ground floor

Integration between Materials

First Floor- Bathroom and Study Place The first floor is study area and bathroom. It is a medium private area.

Inner area- Dining Room The Dining room also provides public space on the ground floor. The area is sitting next to the transportation area, which is convenient to get to the first floor

Transitional space The old house and new house is connected with stairs area in vertical horizontal area. By connecting the different floors, the stairs gives a clear boundary between new and old house. At the same time, it provides good transparent gazing system for people to look at the outside of the world.

The Second floor The second Floor is the most private space. And also it is the highest place in the house. To try to connect outer area, and Reflect the penetration of space. This raised room provides a large view and visually widens the narrow space

As can be seen from site, the building is mainly located at the intersection of several residential areas. The surrounding building sections radiate. How to find the appropriate relatively quiet and private landscape from the living area became a key step. The diverse housing also reflects the different demands of living in high-density areas

Units

Units

After the layout of the residential area around, the residential area needs the internal space to form circulation

Build up a block that could define the neighborhood space and boundary between residential and other residential areas.Establish a common standard Build up single family house first. Taking a single family as the basic unit, the relationship of three-dimensional box is established

In order to increase more neighborhood interaction, it is necessary to establish different units in the middle and create the traffic space within the region

Massing Compositions

Residential groups need a more systematic ecosystem, and the construction of internal green space is the first choice

The farthest edge of site is the place closest to other urban residential areas outside the border. His privacy is less, but the external traffic is more convenient. Therefore, the apartments are designed to ensure that the higher density areas are located on the boundary, while the low-density areas can be concentrated in the middle, and at the same time, the closer inner neighborhood can be guaranteed

The internal living houses are all connected by green Spaces. In fact.Through standardization and different sizes of green space area, the combination of private green space and public green space is established, and finally the linear traffic from the outside to the inside is formed, and then the different units are connected

After setting up the area of the apartment, the volume changes on the specifications, requirements and area of different units are started. Stagger different units to weaken the boundary

Green Area and Integration

Own Yard

Public Area

Green Area

External and internal courtyard courtyard are also closely linked, the outdoor garden (unit) neighbors and itself has a certain visual contact, although each unit yard is own property, but they also strengthen the contact, the neighbor landscape make public and private, at the same time also emphasized the influence of ecological environment for human

Integration between inner yard andneighbor Yard

The rectangular housing unit has more opportunities to touch the green space area, which maximizes the influence of neighborhood green space and public area on the housing.Under the influence of the unit, the green space takes on different shapes to realize the permeation and natural transition between neighbors

Integration through Neighbor Yard to own house

Circulation Diadram

In the neighborhood relationship, our main concern is not the internal space of our residence, but the outdoor space (courtyard, square and entertainment venue), which reflects the relationship between natural architecture, ecology and society under the urban high density. From the big landscape connected by each puzzle, to the small landscape of puzzle piece and then to the micro level, this puzzle is a reflection on urban life.

Under the current epidemic situation, people are becoming more and more isolated from each other. Based on the relationship between neighbors, we need to rethink how to achieve zero-contact communication through architecture, landscape and urban's own form, so as to re-establish the society while reducing the close communication with neighbors

The most important thing about the unit house is to break down the boundary between the private and the neighbors, so that they can get closer to each other through distance, vision and interaction as much as possible. The city is an enlarged building, but it is also a whole, only divided into different zones and connected together by transitional Spaces.

In the high-density environment, we need more modular integration of units to meet the living needs of urban and seek for a harmonious relationship of ecological and urban integration. In Urban Hybrid, the building USES typical modular construction, just like the container, deriving different requirements on space size from different specifications. The ecological environment also changes differently with the combination of modules, so that each has its own needs, but also connects the traffic nodes.

Material: Plywood 2mm ith laser cut and brick textures Scale: 1 to 100 The physical model is basic shapes including interior of whole building. The wall has brick textures to show how the surface of house looks and how space arrange logically.

Sketches Practice

Sketches help me to improving hand drawing skills in design. I always use pens to draw and some are just diagrams but some are real sketches. They remind me the importance of hand drawings in dealing with architectural issues which computer cannot solve

REFLECTION

Design Studio Gamma wants us to find the balance between living and ecological system in cities. People lives there, and they should notice how eco function and choose what kind of ways of growing biodiversities could bring more natural and eco life into teh cities. As I produced every assignment and project, I saw not only they were buildings, but also thought them as process of design complexity, how we can design more flexible and suitable environment that could be fit for people to live in the future. With the change of time, architecture needs more than spatial and functional changes. We see more of an ecological change, which makes the building very flexible from the outside to the inside. In Melbourne, it is very important for the ecosystemto be active in the city. We found the importance of intensify and densify happened in our site, and through the progress of design, the more things we should do is to balance our house with eco system. In this way, biology, architecture and environment can coexist
