REFLECTION Through this semester’s study, I have a preliminary concept and understanding of design. In fact, I think all the tasks of this semester are very interesting and meaningful. For example, in the last design, I not only learned how to edit the image I wanted with photoshop, but also felt the independence and richness of the design while creating my own story. From Module 1, I learned the basic expression of design. Most importantly, seeing things from different angles allows me to analyze an object in multiple directions. What’s more, I also learned how to use computer software to modify my hand drawing, and can be well integrated into a drawing for evaluation. From Module 2, I learned how to use the plane to create a threedimensional world. At the same time, using more computer software makes me more skilled in design techniques. In our design, we need not only plane to represent the scene we see, but also three-dimensional space to express our thoughts more richly. From Module 3, We learned how to present a stereo model in the real world. As a part of the protection object, the form and layout of the surface are very important, so how to make the surface attractive and distinctive is a major focus of our design. From Module 4, our design becomes more abstract. When we have a starting point for a design, it is very challenging to show it on the screen. This not only allows us to understand the meaning of the text, but also through the text into a two-dimensional or three-dimensional world, and give it new meaning. 2

MODULE 01

HOW TO DRAW A CROSSIANT The main purpose of this course is to give us a basic concept of design expression. Understand the overall shape of an object by first choosing the object and taking the direction of the photograph. Then, the object is presented on the drawing by hand-drawn expression.

TAKE PHOTOS In the first step---- the process of taking photos, I gradually formed the way to observe a thing from different angles. After taking the photos, I started uploading them to my computer and making basic corrections. In the process of revising drawings, I gradually learned to use some basic skills of the revision software like learning how to clear some dirty dots, and how to layout the pictures.

6

At the same time, through my modification of the light and shadow of the photo, I have laid a certain foundation for the hand-painted behind.Through the adjustment on Photoshop, I have a better understanding of the drawing software, and in the process of typesetting, I constantly try to make the picture clearer and cleaner.

7

DRAW A CROSSIANT Next, I started my hand-drawing work. According to the requirements of the task book for different types of pens used from different angles, I start with two elevations. I used tracing paper to paint with the photos. In the process of painting, I found that the problem of drawing is how to grasp the praiseworthy details.During the first time I drew a profile, I drew it too dark, so I changed the way I painted it and kept the original line draft as a reference. I narrowed the line of the cross section and the effect of drawing was much better than before.

8

After finishing the elevation and sections, I began to draw the plan. In the process of drawing the plan, I carefully observed the praiseworthy details. First, I laid the background color on the picture, then I drew parallel lines with 2B pencil until I filled the whole picture. Next , I drew the deepest groove part first, and then shaded it. With enough patience, the Praise Plane has been completed.

9

AOXOMETRIC DRAWING In the third step, I began to draw axonometric drawings and grids. In the grid drawing, I used triangle to draw. I drew three 90-degree grids and 45-degree grids respectively, so that I could distinguish three different sections. Finally, I integrated and scanned the grid, and then overlapped to draw the axial line tracing. This method also got some help later when I used Photoshop. This allows me to separate my grids and typeset them.

10

Finally, I integrated the 45-degree grid, drew the axial side draft, and then drew the axial side section and shadow in the physical drawing.

Through this painting bread, I summarized my work. First of all, taking photos of praiseworthy bread and scanning drawings and integrating them into Photoshop for modification have taught me some basic mapping software. Secondly, looking at a loaf of bread from different angles makes me understand that we should observe a thing not only from one aspect, but also from various angles and understand its internal structure and mechanism. In this way, we can observe things more carefully, and also find ways to explore the inspiration of our design in the future. Finally, I found that the object of our drawing exercise at the beginning was not the actual building drawings, but a bread without fixed rules. Therefore, the bread makes me think that our design actually originates from our lif ďźˆaround us and then becomes higher than life. We need some abstract expressions before we can turn it into concrete objects.

MODULE 02

FLATNESS VS PRIJECTION From 2-D to 3-D graphics, it builds up the relationship between what we see and what we imagine. Unlike Module 1, we describe an object in the direction we can see with the naked eye in perspective. However, in the second Module, we imagine the depth and layout of objects through the elevation of Mario World, and create an Axonometric projection world through the combination of painting and computer technology. Specifically, perspective drawing can reflect the object from a single view point, which is helpful for people to understand the object from one side normally.

12

If we draw an object from Axonometric projrction, somtimes it becomes more flexible in its depth and the angle of the object with accurate scale, which improves our imagination and design inspiration from another “abstract perspective.

13

Analyse the pictures and objects I first analysed what elements my design should have. Through these two pictures, I see that the main objects are walls, blue trees and ground. And there also includes rich color such as blue, brown and orange. Therefore, before drawing, I use pen and Sketchup to create some objects basically to help me form the projection. Though it has some projection mistakes, it also practices my skill of computer.

14

15

LINE WORK I trace my work by fine line pen and scan it in my computer so that I could make the picture clearer and easier to trace on the computer through adjusting the light by Photoshop. After finishing modifying my work, I scan the drawing as PDF, put it into my Adobe Illustrator to trace.

After finishing modifying my work, I scan the drawing as PDF, put it into my Adobe Illustrator to trace.

This design trains our space design thinking. At the same time, we can understand the expression of the Axonometric projection on things. At the design level, because everyone has different pictures, it also creates the uniqueness of the design. Through the process of transforming plane into entity, each step lets us gradually understand abstract thinking. At the technical level, we have not only learned different drawing methods, but also drawn our design drawings with the help of computers. Through the combination of each software, we can express our design and ideas. Although the process is tedious and complex, we have learned a lot of practical technology from it and laid the foundation for our future work. In my work, I found that I still have a lot to improve. For example, my color is not very smooth, and I also lack of awareness of color, which results in a certain deviation from the final drawings and imagination. In the future, I should learn more about color and improve my drawing method when I draw in AI.

17

MODULE 03

PATTERN VS SURFACE This assignment is mainly through the combination of pattern and surface to observe things in more detail, through our results to further understand the principle of design. When we have the ability to identify a 3D surface and to use different objects to form patterns on it, it proves that a surface is developmental. Through the 3D modeling knowledge we have learned, we can understand more about how their surfaces are formed and how we develop them。

SURFACE IN THE WIND As the title implies, I assume that my surface is formed in the wind. Because my surface is not inclined to a large extent, I assume that my surface is land. At the same time, I also added square objects and conical objects. Among them, square objects represent volcanoes, and conical objects represent grasses on the edge of mountains. When the wind blows over the grass on the surface, the grass inclines at different angles on the surface, and the grass around the mountain also shows different forms of inclination.

22

Under the guidance of my teacher, I have made a modification to my model. At first, I just got a basic form but didn’t make a change, so I used”solidpton”to make each object change in height and direction. Secondly, I followed my terrain and made their direction a gradient. Also, I make the layout have a tendency in one direction

23

24

After this design and model making, I have a better understanding of rihno and mastered one of the methods to make a three-dimensional model. I can’t help but have the opportunity to design my work through modeling software, and it can also be brought into reality through hand-made methods. This is also a magical thing.

Also, because I am not very skilled at software, I did a lot of preparation before designing. I realized that the design steps are very important. If the design steps are not as required, then the completion and time of the job will be affected. Therefore, the design must be step by step. Although modeling is a very tiring thing, manual ability is one of the necessary skills for design. Therefore, in the future study, I can also express my more complicated architectural design by modeling. At the same time, this topic is also very meaningful. It not only tells us the meaning of the surface, but also allows us to open our minds and try different methods to express our thoughts.

MODULE 04

FRAME VS FIELD Every story has its place, space and time, and the story and space interact with each other. When the story and space are changing, his feelings towards people are also different. We present such stories, not only expressing our personal feelings about space, but also influencing the views of people around us on this space.

MY STORY-----CONTINUOUS CITIES: TRUDE When I think about how to create an inner city, I rethink what the author wants to say. Calvino is thinking about the city lies in the meaning of a moment, which can reflect some problems of the city. Perhaps the fifty-five cities he wrote were just a problem; perhaps they were an infinite hidden problem. In his eyes, the symbolization of the city, the similarity of the city, the disappearance of the city memory, the city replacement, survival and death are all the misfortunes of the modern city. Perhaps I can decipher one of them, but I don’t want to push this article into my personal will in a definite way. Only symbols can bring infinite imagination space. Later, I divided the article into two parts. Part of this is what the author has seen in his car---- passing houses and towns of all sizes. The second part is about the scenes the author will encounter when he is tired of, including the hotel he is going to visit and the people he sees in the hardware store. Of course, the author also hoped to leave this boring city immediately, but at this moment the driver told him that every city is the same, you can never escape. Although there is no afterword here, I guess the author must be confused, and he is faced with the choice of whether to leave by plane or continue to the hotel. In a word, the author was confused by his powerlessness in trying to get rid of the shackles of seeing the city being affected.

Perspective 01

30

PERSPECTIVE 1 I decidE to set the background of my first scene as the city background. Because the author’s first state of time is that he had just arrived in the city and is in the daytime. So what the author sees is some street scenes. Secondly, I set the scene where the author had just arrived in the city. After that, I begin to collect the material I wanted. I have collected photographs of some workers and extracted them for use in my scenes, which can form a scene of people’s dull life in the city. Then I come up with the idea of setting the first scene on the rooftop square. People walk up the stairs from the ground block to my first perspective. At the same time, the protagonist can also clearly overlook some scenes of big cities from this perspective. In this perspective, I lift the roof to form an open scene. And because in the article, the author mentioned the square in the city, I set up the square in the city on my “rooftop”.

31

Perspective 02

32

PERSPECTIVE 2 In the second perspective, I set the background as a palace leading to the airport. In the right of the background, there is a man in the store, which is the direction to the hotel. Meanwhile, my timeline became the night of the day. After people left work, the whole site seemed to be relaxed. But the nun was still sitting in the same position, looking around at the scene, which forms a dynamic and static contrast between space and time. In addition, there are hardware stores in the distance where people are talking carefully. I express the author’s confusion about going or staying through the palace in the distance and the stores leading to the hotel on the other side.

33

EXTRA PRACTICE---FOR HAND DRAWING Since my major is architecture, I think it is necessary to do some exercises in the basic stage of design. This not only strengthens my ability, but also enables me to think more about design. I mainly practice my line drawing and watercolor
