MAKE A LASTING GIFT
‘Yours, Lord, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the majesty and the splendour, for everything in heaven and earth is yours...Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand.’ 1 Chronicles 29; 11 & 14
Leaving a legacy gift Bradford Cathedral stands on a site from which the Good News of God’s love has been proclaimed for over a thousand years. For generations, people have come to the Cathedral to worship and pray, to reflect and find peace, to enjoy the beauty of our wonderful building. Today, we continue to proclaim and live out the Good News, to welcome people of all faiths and none, and to serve the most vulnerable in our diverse communities.
A gift in your will can help us to continue to be a witness to God’s love, and a place of welcome and blessing for future generations.
Why legacy gifts matter It costs over £2,000 each day to keep the doors of our beautiful Cathedral open and continue its mission and ministry. This is made possible only by the great generosity of our congregation and supporters. As Christians, we believe that we are stewards of everything we own, and that generosity and giving are at the heart of our faith. Making a gift in your will is a natural part of the Christian life. It can be a joyful expression of your gratitude and thanksgiving to God, as well as helping to ensure that the Cathedral, and all those who share in its life, flourish in the future.
How to make a legacy gift We welcome all legacy gifts, however large or small. Since needs change over the years, we encourage you to leave a gift for general rather than restricted purposes. Our promise is that all legacy gifts will be used to help fund significant work –
whether buildings, equipment or staff related – and will make a real difference to the Cathedral’s mission and ministry. • Everyone should have a will. It is an important way of making provision for your family and sparing your loved ones unnecessary distress. It might also reduce your inheritance tax bill. • We recommend that you speak to a solicitor when writing your will. They will be able to explain your options. • If you already have a will and would like to make changes, you can do so through a Codicil. Again, it is important to speak to a solicitor. • Please complete the attached intentions form if you plan to leave a gift to the Cathedral in your will, or if you would like to speak to someone in confidence about legacies. You can remain completely anonymous if you wish. You can view our Legacy Policy at www.bradfordcathedral.org/legacy-policy
Suggested wording for your will ‘I give ___% of my residuary estate OR I give the sum of £____ (pounds only) free of all taxes to Bradford Cathedral, in the Diocese of Leeds, for its general purposes, and I declare that the receipt of an officer of the Chapter of Bradford Cathedral shall be a sufficient discharge to my executors and trustees.’ If you would like to make a gift in memory of someone, please come and discuss this with us too. It can be a very special way to remember a loved one.
