MESSAGE FROM THE CEO

Daniel Cooper, Chief Executive Officer I would like to extend a warm welcome to all of the Midland Brick team who have joined us at BGC from the 1st April. We are delighted to have you onboard. The combined Brikmakers and Midland Brick teams are now working hard to meet the demand for bricks, blocks and pavers stemming from the housing stimulus sales and New Zealand demand. The teams are also busy on the integration which will ensure a seamless transition for our customers and stakeholders. Among the many integration benefits it is particularly pleasing to see Midland Brick bring a strong safety culture, reporting over 1172 days LTI free across the whole business in March. Safety Our relentless drive to improve our safety in the workplace has led to our continual improvement and best ever group safety results also recorded in April. We still have much to do and can never be complacent. Our near miss reports provide constant reminders of what could have been and provide us with areas for improvement. Reporting these near misses is one of the most important steps you can take as an individual to help improve our culture and ensure every one of your work mates returns home safely each night. We highly value the “Take 5’s” or mini risk assessments that every one across the group completes. Did you know our staff and contractors now complete over 20,000 Take 5’s every month! That’s 20,000 times we stop take a moment and consider a safer way to proceed. 2

Economic Recovery The economies in both Australia and New Zealand have rebounded well after the impact of COVID-19. While we continue to work through state lockdowns and restrictions our markets are strengthening. A combination of housing stimulus, government infrastructure spending and low interest rates have led to increased volumes in most business lines. The housing stimulus by both Federal and State Government has been extremely successful in enticing buyers into the market. As volumes return, BGC are well placed to meet the market demand. We have production capacity in most of our materials businesses or have either programs in place, or plans for capacity improvements. This year we are investing several million dollars to upgrade a second kiln at Brikmakers to manufacture face bricks and implement new technology to drive brick laying innovation, reducing the whole of wall cost. We are also investing significantly at our cement operation in Naval Base with a new high capacity blending plant, bulk bagging operation and white cement production. Transporting our products is a

potential pinch point and a timely investment in new trucks for our fleet, which includes 10 new road trains, see these arriving in May. Our People As you are all well aware our most important resource is our people and we have so many stories of our teams working extended hours to get the job done. This is a key value at BGC where we aim to get things done for our customers as part of the BGC Way. Capacity improvements such as those listed above ensure we return to more manageable work hours as soon as possible. With international borders effectively closed and challenges with attracting interstate migrants due to strong building markets in most states, skilled trades such as bricklayers remain a major challenge for our business. It is a huge issue as it could lead to extended build times of up to 12 months without action. This is not only upsetting for our homebuyers but also impacts our vertically integrated businesses.

well before the uplift and had set in place a targeted program with help from the industry training body ABBTF to attract 50 new bricklaying apprentices. After 9 months we have successfully placed 45 budding young tradespeople with future pathways to a career in construction. You would have seen our advertisements for interstate bricklaying employees, this has been a different approach to a complex problem. ABBTF and BGC are upskilling these teams with an earn why you learn program. Our training and upskilling are not just contained to brick trades. I am pleased to see the many staff who have recently completed their leadership training and safety certification amongst a variety of other development programs we have running this year. Finally, a huge thank you to all of the BGC team who took their time to complete the BGC Way Pulse survey. With over 79% participation we have received great feedback from an engaged team across the breadth of this proud company.

A GOOD DEED

Brikmakers and Midland Brick Help Rebuild Homes Of Bushfire Victims The team at Brikmakers and Midland Brick are showing their support for those who lost their homes in the WA Wooroloo bushfires earlier this year, pledging to assist the Bushfire Volunteer Rebuild WA initiative – an industry group formed to help rebuild the community. As part of the initiative, Brikmakers and Midland Brick will provide bricks free of charge for uninsured bushfire victims to support the rebuild of their homes, regardless of the previous products used or original brick supplier. The February 2021 bushfires devastated Wooroloo residents, with a total of 86 homes lost as a result of the fire tearing through the Perth Hills. An extremely stressful time for locals, the bushfires coincided with the five-day COVID-19 lockdown in WA. Claire Perks, Marketing Manager, said the team is honoured to be able to give back to the community and provide support to the victims of the fires.

“We hope that through this deed we’re able to provide a light at the end of the tunnel, as the tedious process of rebuilding the community begins.” 8

For all bushfire victims, Brikmakers and Midland Brick are also offering 50% off products from the complete range, including pavers, roof tiles, masonry blocks, Blokstone retaining blocks and bricks to further support the community in replacing and rebuilding fire damaged property. Well done to the brick teams for taking the initiative to support the rebuild of a vulnerable community. These residents need the support of our industry now more than ever.

“We were all shocked by the devastation of these fires in our community and our thoughts go out to the residents impacted.”

Leaders in focus

Carl Barrett As the Group Manager for Energy and Environment at BGC, my role focuses on identifying and implementing innovative, relevant and cost-effective energy solutions to power our business activities. I am equally passionate about advancing BGC’s environmental agenda beyond compliance and into industry-leading best practice. The energy and environment sectors are rapidly evolving and, as a business, BGC is responsible for understanding and adapting these changes to our business-as-usual practice to become emerging market leaders in sustainability. Currently, we’re seeing two significant shifts take place in the sectors: decarbonisation of energy sources and the rise of the ‘circular economy’. The transformation and decarbonisation of energy is being driven by the adoption of solar panels and wind farms, which feed into electricity grids. Through this trend, we anticipate the electrification of future transport and industrial processes, which could significantly impact BGC’s Manufacturing companies, and residential activity throughout the BGC Housing Group.

BGC PRECAST

A New Luxury Project — The Queenslea Claremont Congratulations to the team at BGC Precast, which successfully supported the construction of Perth’s newest luxury aged care precinct, The Queenslea Claremont. The ‘circular economy’ focuses on phasing out waste and pollution. Environmental intervention is increasing as governments set higher standards and aggressively incentivise new initiatives. BGC continues to evolve based on these new standards, searching for and applying new ways to further raise the bar with our environmental stewardship across our businesses.

12

Everyone who participated in Project F1 got exposure and an opportunity to contribute to Group procurement strategies and initiatives in areas they may have previously been unfamiliar with.

To date, my proudest achievement here at BGC has been successfully managing the concurrent load of Group Procurement Transformation (Project F1), the Midland Brick acquisition (Project Swan), the divestment of non-core properties whilst carrying out my usual roles and responsibilities, through a challenging period.

I was presented the opportunity to lead the CMG workstream with seven sponsors and 30+ initiative owners. I genuinely enjoyed learning more about the range of external businesses that BGC relies on and who we are accountable for supporting. Moreover, I enjoyed learning about our people and their diversity and strengths. This project was a great example of how we work better together and are committed to continuously improving our work which is aligned with The BGC Way.

Project F1 proved to be a worthwhile exercise as it provided an opportunity for our Senior Leaders who have been working in the business for many years to demonstrate they are across their respective Business Unit procurement activities and continue to find efficiencies from long term value engineering.

We’ve got some great people at BGC who are outcome oriented and results driven. As a team, we know what needs to be done to achieve our goals and roll up our sleeves to make it happen. My responsibilities as the Workstream lead was made easier by having the right people.

It was also beneficial for our up and coming leaders through expanding networks, applying analytics and sharpening negotiation skills to make more informed decisions.

Achieving significant savings, Project F1 was a resounding success and I thank all the team members for their contribution to this company-wide initiative.

Approached by principal contractor Multiplex, BGC Precast was engaged to provide high quality, patterned and sandblasted white concrete wall panels for the luxury development. The BGC Precast team delivered on the scope of work for the new complex through the supply and install of the high-quality precast wall panels, which were constructed at the Naval Base site.

The innovative use of the PrefaMAX pallet system ensured demurrage charges were removed and provided Multiplex with complete flexibility to install BGC Precast’s high-quality wall panels at the most appropriate stage of the project. Managing the complete process with extreme care, the BGC Precast team delivered an outstanding finished product for the client that adds to the new building’s prestigious nature. Well done to the team, this project is an outstanding testament to BGC Precast’s superior project management and manufacturing quality.

Key to the successful completion of the project was the transportation of the precast walls to the site of the luxury new complex. Taking into consideration the potential for road rash and other obstructions traditionally involved in the transportation process of large-scale goods, the BGC Precast team opted to use the PrefaMAX pallet system.

BGC PLASTERBOARD

Watercorp All Smiles After Tank Re-Roofing

BGC Plasterboard Launches High-Performance Lining Technology — GTEK™ Barrier

While BGC Precast primarily focuses on producing wall panels, flooring, beams, columns and stairs, a new opportunity from Watercorp offered an opportunity to innovate the team’s offering through re-roofing a water tank in Perth’s North East. Accepting the challenge to take on this innovative project, the BGC Precast team was enlisted by Watercorp for the Northam project. A complex process, the project involved the water tank being drained and taken off-line while the re-roofing exercise took place. As WA’s principal supplier of water, wastewater and drainage services; Watercorp knew that time was of the essence for this project. Through extensive planning and collaboration, the BGC Precast team undertook the works in record speed, with the Northam tank quickly reinstated for use shortly after completion.

The feedback from Watercorp on this project was outstanding. The team were praised for the speed in which the essential elements for the project were developed and installed. The Watercorp team specifically highlighted the skill and ingenuity of BGC Precast’s Structural Engineers in developing innovations that accelerated the project’s construction. Congratulations to those involved in this project – Watercorp was a very happy client!

BGC Plasterboard has rolled out a new highperformance wet area plasterboard lining system that adds to its existing standard wet plasterboard range.

“This new product is easier to cut, fasten and install penetrations for pipes and taps than other wet area tile substrates. It has truly revolutionised the plasterboard process.”

The new plasterboard, GTEK™ Barrier, uses next generation lining technology and has been purposefully designed as a substrate for tiles in high humidity areas in commercial buildings, such as sports arenas, commercial kitchens and laundries, toilets, shower enclosures and cleaning room areas.

With the new GTEK™ Barrier offering added to BGC Plasterboard’s range, BGC customers will benefit from the quality-tested, sustainable product that is completely compatible with existing BGC interior lining systems.

The high-performance liner also means that GTEK™ Barrier has excellent abrasion resistance making it a perfect solution for high traffic areas. Charlie Young, BGC Sales and Marketing Manager, said GTEK™ Barrier is a superior product due to its lightweight quality, water resistance, tile weight capacity and ease of installation. “We developed GTEK™ Barrier as a response to customers looking for a better wet area lining system, particularly on steel frames in commercial applications. “Customers were having issues with tiles cracking when using other products, so GTEK™ Barrier was the perfect solution. The product’s durable design is like no other.

A New Home For WA Manufacturing — BGC Cement As part of the ongoing continuous improvement initiatives and strategic investments taking place throughout the Group, BGC Cement is merging its two Perth metropolitan manufacturing locations in Canning Vale and Naval Base, to create a single manufacturing facility in Naval Base. Naval Base will become the home of manufacturing for BGC Cement in WA, complemented by a distribution hub in Kalgoorlie and a new state-of-the-art laboratory in Hazelmere supporting the cement operations. As a result of the integration, Naval Base is undergoing an upgrade that will provide countless new substantial benefits. These include a new blending plant, additional product

silos for Ultra Crème and boutique cements, a new bagging production line, and, for the BGC Cement team, a new office building and car park. These upgrades will complement the existing Drymix plant. The new one-site model will also allow BGC Cement to further drive and achieve its commitment to the safety of all employees and contractors, with its entire operational activity being carried out in the one location. Derek Houareau, BGC Cement General Manager, said “Expanding onto a modern existing site, which can produce and hold all of our capacity, as well as bringing the two teams together will be important for the future sustainability and growth of the BGC Cement business.” “It will allow us to better service our valuable clients, work more cohesively as a team, further explore new efficiencies and innovations, remain competitive and support our Group

wide continuous improvement initiatives. The new structure will also allow us to focus on enhancing the quality of our products and systems such as AS4801 and ISO 9001, which will support our growth, particularly in the Goldfields region.” Naval Base is located in the industrial precinct, close to port and rail infrastructure, which is vital for the BGC Group in its commitment to continually work on reducing carbon emissions. Manufacturing all of the cementitious product in Naval Base will not only mean BGC Cement will have a more efficient facility, but it will also eliminate truck movements between the Port and Canning Vale and will significantly decrease truck movements by railing cement to Kalgoorlie. With everyone across the business looking forward to working together on the one site, the future is exciting for BGC Cement and its customers.

BGC CONSTRUCTION

Bethanie’s Dalyellup Aged Care Facility

BGC Construction has been appointed as the Head Contractor to design and build Bethanie’s new Dalyellup aged care facility, located in WA’s South West.

David Dodds, BGC Construction General Manager, said the Dayellup project is an indication of how the BGC regional office is growing and gaining market share through quality project delivery.

Bethanie CEO, Chris How, said this project is likely the last time Bethanie will be building an aged care home of this scale, with the company shifting to smaller facilities in the future.

The $23.5 million project officially commenced with a sod-turning ceremony in mid-February, where members from the BGC Construction team gathered to celebrate the milestone with the client.

“BGC Construction is pleased to be working with Bethanie again in delivering this essential aged care facility in the South West, being one of the largest construction projects in the region.”

Due for completion at the end of May 2022, Bethanie Dalyellup will provide residents with quality apartment housing that’s affordable, well-appointed and close to nearby shops and services for ease and convenience of daily life. Construction has officially commenced on site, with drainage works in progress.

The new Dalyellup development is a landmark project for BGC’s portfolio given its size, value and regional location.

BGC PRECAST

Hollowcore Innovation Accelerates Kalgoorlie Project The team at BGC Precast have innovated their unique Hollowcore slabs to deliver a unique industrial building situated over the road from BGC Cement’s new Kalgoorlie depot on Kayili Rd. The project led to the modification of Hollowcore’s edge profile with an innovative tongue and groove formation that allows for interlocking connection of each slab. To make the joints watertight, BGC Precast’s team also fitted a special sealing strip to the horizontal tongue and groove joint between the panels, which expands when wet. The precast ensured for a quick installation using a small rubber tyred mobile crane in conjunction with BGC Precast’s special roll-over clamps. This then allowed the panels to be picked up from a horizontal stack, rotated mid-air to 90 degrees, and then installed. The panels were bolted to the steel wall columns using BGC Precast’s special clamps, which only needed a battery powered impact wrench to fasten.

The new innovative feature was developed for each of the 160 Hollowcore wall panels required for the project

30

The lightweight composure of BGC Precast’s Hollowcore product makes it easy to transport. This allows many more square metres of wall to be transported on any load. It’s an ideal system for remote country areas in WA, where local made concrete is expensive, and large cranes are not always available. Altogether, the process for production and installation was fast, simple and cost effective for the client. As a result of the project’s successful completion, BGC Precast is now in discussions to implement the same product for a much larger industrial building in Port Hedland. Well done to the team!

SRG Selects BGC Precast for New Merredin and Dedari Tanks

Congratulations to the team at BGC Precast, who have been awarded the contract to supply the precast for two landmark Watercorp owned tanks in Merredin and Dedari. The tender process involved extensive negotiations, which were a cross-department effort led by by Phil Surridge (BGC Precast) and Ryan Hawkins (BGC Legal). The collaborative effort by the BGC Precast and BGC Legal teams resulted in the successful outcome of the project win for both tanks.

The scope of works will see the production of 104 curved precast wall panels, each measuring 13 metres high and 3.6 metres wide. With both sites located in regional WA, the panels will be post-tensioned and hoisted onto large trucks before being individually transported to the sites. Construction of the tank walls will see the large, curved panels stood vertically around the 60 metre perimeter of a circular concrete cast-in-situ base to form the tank walls.

32

The tank roofs, which are all made from Hollowcore, are supported by 82 precast columns and 91 support beams that will sit above the columns. This unique structure utilises BGC Precast’s innovative hammerhead technology and allows the beams to be supported on top of the wall panels, without the need to form notches. Well done to both teams, whose hard work and attention to detail throughout the tender process paid off!
